Chapter 380 Antonio's Deep Feelings and Loyalty
Sarah clenched her hand under the blanket, the cabin crew's words echoing in her mind. She knew that there was nothing between Antonio and Serene, yet her heart still ached at the mention of it.
Sarah's greatest worry loomed large: the possibility of Serene never regaining the use of her leg. In light of this, any discord or disagreements between Serene and Antonio seemed trivial compared to the lifelong responsibility of caring for someone in need.Sarah understood well that their relationship would inevitably crumble if Serene continued to appear before her and Antonio.
Sarah wasn't ungrateful for Serene. On the contrary, she was very grateful that Serene saved Antonio that night. However, this gratitude didn't mean she wanted to hand her husband over.
Sarah didn't want to listen anymore, so she immediately put on her headphones, blocking out all the sounds.
In truth, Antonio's sentiments mirrored Sarah's. He felt thankful toward Serene, yet acknowledging gratitude didn't imply an endless debt.
Nevertheless, whether driven by morality or obligation, he understood the necessity of acquiescing to Serene's request, burdened as he was by the weight of two life-saving acts.
Originally, he felt a connection with the girl who saved him on the snowy mountain. Her voice was pleasant and gentle, accompanying him through his darkest moments.
Later, in his search for her, Antonio wondered if he had developed different feelings for her. But now, facing Serene, he understood that it was not the case. His feelings could only be for Sarah.
As Antonio flipped through the documents in his hand, he told Serene, "After we return, I will arrange for you to meet the most professional doctors for consultation. I will make sure you won't be left disabled."
"Antonio, you shouldn't be like this toward me. I know you're treating me well because of my injury, but if it upsets Sarah and you two fight because of me, I won’t bear it."
Serene still looked pitiful, but she also carried a firmness of not wanting to trouble others. She had mastered this subtle sense very well.
After spending considerable time dealing with Antonio, she had gained some understanding of his character. If she continued to insist that he take responsibility or indulged in self-pity, Antonio would eventually become weary of her.
However, he would likely feel guilty if she refrained from demanding his accountability. Seizing this opportunity, she might secretly sow discord between him and Sarah to further her own agenda.
Antonio sighed heavily. "Don't overthink it. Our matters have nothing to do with you."
"I actually have always liked Sarah, but I have this vague feeling like she's wary of me... That's why I don't want to burden you both just because I got injured, Antonio...
"Hey, I believe you understand me. You don't need to worry about my leg, alright?"
Serene choked up, every word telling Antonio that despite her injury, she didn't want to ruin their relationship. She just wanted to handle things on her own.
Being a loyal person, Antonio couldn't bear to hear such words. "Stop talking. Rest well, don't think too much. Leave your leg injury to me."
Serene was also a smart person. She knew when to stop and didn't say anything more.
The three of them remained silent throughout the journey and quickly arrived home.
Naturally, Antonio first escorted Serene to her residence before instructing the driver to go home.
"I'm not going back with you. Take me to Century Garden." Sarah sat in the back seat, turning her head away from Antonio.
The driver didn't dare to speak, only stealing glances at Antonio through the rearview mirror.
"Go home," Antonio coldly said.
"Okay, Mr. Valencia." The driver hastily started the car.
Sarah furrowed her brow. "Stop the car."
The driver slammed on the brakes as soon as the accelerator was pressed. "Madam, do you have any other instructions?"
Without a word, Sarah got out of the car.
"Sarah!" Antonio quickly followed and pulled Sarah onto the sidewalk. "Do you know how dangerous it is to get out of the car on the road?"
"It was already by the roadside. What's wrong with getting out of it?" Sarah stubbornly refused to look at Antonio.
"Sarah, what's wrong with you? Can we go home first?" Antonio held Sarah's hand. "Let's go to Century Garden together and pick our children up, alright?"
"No need to trouble Mr. Valencia. We're perfectly fine staying at our own home. Why should we bother you?" Sarah forcefully shook Antonio's hand off and immediately hailed a taxi.
"Sarah!"
"Drive!" Sarah sat in the taxi and took out a wad of money from her wallet.
The taxi driver dared not delay and instantly stepped on the gas, speeding away.
Antonio stood in place, anger boiling inside him. He pounded his fist against a tree trunk, his fingers cut and wounded. But it didn't alleviate his anger at all.
'She was perfectly fine at the hospital, and now that she's back, she's pushing me away again!'
At that moment, Antonio even regretted that it wasn't him who had gotten injured instead of Serene. Then, he would have a reason to keep Sarah by his side for a little longer.
The driver looked at him tremblingly. "Mr. Valencia, should we go back home?"
Antonio coldly stared at Sarah's disappearing figure and silently made a decision in his heart.
"Go to the hospital."
