Chapter 248 He Was Not Willing!

Seeing the couple reunite, Richard didn't have much to say to Sarah. He could only find an excuse to leave and give the couple some space.

After Richard left, Sarah told Antonio about the current situation, that they couldn't go back for the time being.

Antonio nodded, indicating his understanding, and a hint of seriousness appeared in his deep eyes.

"Let's go out and take a look," he said.

After speaking, Antonio took Sarah's hand and left Richard's residence. While they were trying to find a way to leave the fishing village, Antonio also mentioned the recent murders to her.

There seemed to be a hidden surge in his calm eyes.

Sarah looked at Antonio with some pity but remained silent.

Seeing her expression, Antonio knew that she also had suspicions in her heart. He held her hand slightly tighter, as if telling her to rest assured, but they didn't say anything explicitly.

Sarah hesitated for a moment and asked with concern, "Are you feeling bad inside?"

Antonio didn't answer. Instead, his gaze followed the endless sea in the distance, his mind drifting back to the past.

His parents passed away when he was young, leaving his grandfather as his sole relative. Yet, even from his tender years, he sensed a lack of genuine affection from his grandfather, as if concealed emotions lurked beneath that kind facade.

As a child, Antonio pondered whether his grandfather's demeanor stemmed from lingering grief over losing his son in middle age.

Over the years, his grandfather not only raised him but also imparted valuable lessons on managing the family company, a task far from effortless. Antonio harbored a deep desire to repay his grandfather's kindness for as long as he lived.

But things didn't go as he hoped. The older Antonio grew, the stranger his grandfather's attitude became especially after reuniting with Sarah.

Antoniodidn't share his thoughts, but being chased by a loved one naturally made him feel uncomfortable. He couldn't understand why Lucien would be so heartless.

After all, he was his grandson!

But Antonio also realized that this incident was most likely Lucien's doing.

Seeing him in a melancholic state, Sarah directly held onto his arm and gently caressed his arm with one hand, silently comforting him.

His heart moved slightly, and his other hand covered hers. The two of them embraced each other tightly, as if they had crossed countless obstacles and become indispensable to each other.

After a moment of embracing, Sarah's thoughts couldn't help but drift to their children, making her even more melancholic.

"What I'm most worried about now is Harper and Ethan. With the two of us not around, I'm afraid something might happen to them..." Sarah's eyes showed her unease, and the thought of their children facing life and death only intensified her concern.

"Don't worry, Harper and Ethan are both smart. They will definitely be fine," Antonio quickly comforted her.

"I know, but they are still just children...

"Sarah..." Antonio's reassurance did not alleviate her worries; instead, it made her more anxious. Both of their children were independent thinkers, and she feared that their strong wills might lead them into danger.

"Don't worry, I will find a way for us to leave this place as soon as possible."

As such, the two of them embarked on a search throughout the entire island. For a whole week, they explored every corner but returned empty-handed.

In the end, they returned to the village. The villagers warmly greeted them when they saw the two of them returning together.

"Young man, how did it go? We told you, there really isn't any boat around here that can take you out into the open sea!"

Before they left, Sarah and Antonio had asked the villagers for information. However, the villagers had all said that there was no way to venture far into the sea. It was only then that they went out to explore the entire island for other possibilities.

Sarah's heart grew heavy.

'Could it be that we'll be stranded on this island for the rest of our lives?'

Seeing Sarah feeling down, Antonio felt her pain and quickly held her hand. "Don't worry, we will always find a solution."

The couple stood facing the sea, bathed in the sunset's glow, elongating their silhouettes.

They walked side by side, a perfect match.

The villagers, with their limited education, saw them as if they were people descended from the heavens—a perfect couple. They smiled warmly at the sight of them.

The two of them returned to Richard's house, leaning against each other, their eyes filled with love for one another.

Through the window, Richard's mother witnessed this scene and sighed, reluctant to accept it.

"Our son finally found a girl he likes, but of course, she already has a husband."

Richard's father shook his head. "What are you saying? Can't you see their mannerisms and demeanor? They are extraordinary, far beyond ordinary people. Even if she were not married, our son would still be unworthy of her."

Richard's father bluntly poured cold water on his wife's hopes. In his eyes, their son should stop thinking about meddling in someone else's happiness if he couldn't measure up in the first place.

Richard's mother sighed softly, "You're right."

Unbeknownst to them, Richard had been standing outside the door, and every word of their conversation had reached his ears.

A sense of loss instantly overwhelmed Richard's eyes, and he was filled with a suppressed emotion.

Subconsciously, he felt a sense of unwillingness. He hadn't even fought for it, so why did they say he couldn't do it? Who decided that certain individuals had to be paired with certain others in this world?
