Chapter 740 Do You Want Me To Watch You Every Day?

Kevin, hearing the news, immediately thought something was wrong and asked, "What's up? You guys okay?"

Sarah reassured him, "Dad, we're fine."

She glanced at Cynthia next to her and added, "But I found Cynthia, Mom's cousin."

"Cynthia?" Kevin was taken aback.

"Yeah, Cynthia." After Sarah said that, there was a long silence on the other end.

Finally, Kevin sighed deeply, "I never thought you'd run into her. How's she doing?"

"Not great," Sarah admitted, choosing her words carefully. "It's a long story, but her mental state is pretty shaky. Physically, she's okay, though."

She continued, "So, do you know what happened to her before?"

"Your mom cut ties with the family ages ago, so..." Kevin sounded a bit helpless, "I don't really know the details."

"I see." Sarah felt a bit let down but quickly bounced back, saying, "It's alright. Once I bring Cynthia back, we can dig into it. We'll figure it out eventually."

Sarah believed that no matter what happened, there had to be some clues; it was just a matter of time.

After hanging up, she stared at her phone for a bit.

"Sarah?" Antonio asked, looking worried. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Sarah forced a smile, shaking her head, and glanced at Cynthia beside him. "I just can't understand why even the older generation went through so much."

Antonio hugged her gently, his voice soothing. "It'll all be okay soon."

Meanwhile, Mary had no idea they already had the test results. She anxiously looked at Timothy, who was holding her.

"What do you want?! I have things to do!" she yelled.

She had just gone to the restroom, but Timothy had dragged her away!

Cynthia had just finished her check-up, and Mary was worried Cynthia might act up if she wasn't there.

Seeing her anxious face, Timothy sneered, "Am I that repulsive to you?"

He got so close that Mary blushed and stepped back. She stammered, "I... I told you I have things to do. If you have something to say, just say it!"

The more she acted like this, the angrier Timothy got.

He tightened his grip on her hand, pulling her back, asking, "What things? Rushing to see that guy?"

Mary was confused and blinked. "What guy? What are you talking about?"

Timothy's face darkened as he said, "I didn't know you knew such a guy. After having dinner together, you even went to the hospital with him? Is he sick?"

Mary finally realized he was talking about Antonio.

She explained, "We just met recently. I didn't have much to do today, so I came to help."

"Just met and you're already so close?" Timothy got even angrier, his voice stern and jealous. "That guy doesn't seem trustworthy. Stay away from him!"

"How could that be?" Mary thought he was being unreasonable and softly retorted, "Antonio is a really nice person!"

Timothy was so angry he laughed, his temple veins throbbing.

Mary sneaked a glance at Timothy, noticing his face getting darker. She quickly said, "I mean it. He and his wife Sarah are both really nice people!"

"Wife?" Timothy was momentarily stunned, latching onto the most important detail. "He has a wife?"

"Yes!" Mary looked at him, confused and anxious, trying to break free. "We had dinner together, didn't you see? I met Cynthia while working as a caregiver. They're Cynthia's relatives. It was a coincidence, so we had dinner together."

The tension in Timothy's face finally eased a bit, and the tightness in his chest loosened. He looked at Mary's slightly flushed face and smiled, "Still, be careful and don't trust people too easily."

Despite his words, Mary just felt Timothy was being unreasonable.

She said, "I need to go back now. Sarah is pregnant, and if Cynthia acts up, she can't handle it."

Mary's father had recently passed away, and she and Timothy had just gotten married; shortly after their wedding, Timothy went to another city for an exchange program, so he wasn't aware of Mary volunteering at the nursing home or who Cynthia was, but he didn't immediately ask her about it.

Mary looked up and said, "I'm leaving now. You should get back to work."

As she took a step, Timothy pulled her back. "Wait."

Timothy glanced at her neck, noticing some red spots, and frowned slightly, "What did you eat at that restaurant for lunch?"

Mary instinctively replied, "Just regular food!"

Timothy said, "You're allergic. Didn't you know?"

Timothy looked at her with a hint of reproach, then lowered his head to check the red rash on her neck.

Feeling his cool fingertips on her skin, Mary stiffened.

"There are a few things you can't eat, how can you forget?" Timothy checked her rash, and fortunately, it wasn't serious. He continued, "You're an adult now, can't you take care of yourself? Do I need to watch over you every day? Hmm?"

His deep, pleasant voice was right beside her, making Mary's ears turn red.

She stood obediently, letting Timothy scold her, but she couldn't help feeling happy, even silently answering him, "Sure, I'd love for you to watch over me every day!"

After all, he was someone she had liked for a long time!

Seeing her obedient demeanor, Timothy couldn't help but soften, sighing, "Come with me to the office to apply some ointment, then you can go find who you need to."

With that, he took Mary's hand and walked out without waiting for her response.

The terrace they were on was some distance from Timothy's office. Mary's hand was tightly held, her heart skipping a beat. Suddenly, the hand loosened.

Mary looked up and saw a group of doctors and nurses approaching, smiling and greeting Timothy. "Dr. Reed."

Timothy responded faintly.

Mary clenched her now empty hand, feeling a similar emptiness in her once warm heart.

They were secretly married, a relationship that could end any day, so there was no need to let others know.

Timothy sensed that Mary's mood was off and was about to speak when he heard a shout from ahead. It was Sarah and Antonio.

"Mary!"
