Chapter 366 Serene Tends to Antonio...
Sarah's teeth ground together as she observed Serene's enchanting smile flickering on the television screen. "I should have known she'd be so eager," she muttered, her fingers jabbing at the power button with more force than necessary. The screen blinked out, leaving her alone with her thoughts.
Retreating to the sanctuary of her room, she swiftly shut out all news of the annual meeting. Prepared materials were deleted from her computer with a few swift keystrokes. With a huff of frustration, she slammed the laptop shut and retreated to the refuge of her bed.
As she burrowed beneath the covers, sleep eluded her. Her mind was a whirlwind of anger and confusion, leaving her tossing and turning restlessly.
As dawn began to break, sleep finally claimed her, only to be shattered by a nightmarish vision. She bolted upright, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The details of the dream slipped away, but the fear it had instilled remained, a chilling presence in her mind.
"Mummy, Mummy! Open the door quickly!" Harper's anxious voice echoed through the house, accompanied by the frantic pounding of small fists against her bedroom door.
With a sigh, Sarah rose from the bed and opened the door. "What's the matter, Harper?" she asked, her voice heavy with sleep.
"Mummy, Ryan just got a call. The man on the other end sounded really worried and said he needed to talk to you about Dad."
Sarah's heart clenched at the mention of Antonio. Barefoot, she sprinted to the children's room to answer the call.
"This is Sarah. What's happened?"
"Mrs. Valencia, thank God you've answered. I've been trying to reach you all night, but your phone was off. You need to come to Shengjing immediately. Mr. Valencia has been in an accident and is in the hospital!"
"What!" Sarah's knees buckled, and she barely managed to stay upright. "I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Mummy, what's wrong?" Brian's worried voice cut through her panic.
Sarah took a moment to steady her breathing before answering. "There's been a problem at the company. I need to go to Shengjing. Uncle Alex will come over to look after you. Stay home and behave, don't go anywhere."
"Mummy..." Brian's small hand wrapped around her wrist, his eyes wide with concern.
"I have to go, Brian. It's important. You be a good boy and look after the house, okay?" Sarah managed a smile, ruffling his hair affectionately.
With a nod, Brian released her wrist, watching silently as she hurried away.
Sarah quickly packed a bag and rushed to the airport. On the journey, she turned on her phone, the first headline catching her eye. Shengjing had been hit by a sudden, severe storm the previous night. The villa where the annual meeting had been held was flooded, and many roads were blocked.
She dialed the number of the annual meeting's organizer, demanding details. The news was grim. Antonio had been returning to his hotel when a tree, felled by the storm, had crashed onto his car. He was now in the hospital, seriously injured.
Regret washed over Sarah. Another storm, another disaster. Antonio...
How had he faced the danger?
Tears welled up in her eyes, spilling over as she was consumed by grief.
In the face of life and death, their misunderstandings and arguments seemed so insignificant.
She regretted not resolving their issues when she had the chance.
If only she had explained herself properly, or if she had stayed by Antonio's side, things might have been different.
The flight to Shengjing was the longest she had ever endured. Upon landing, she immediately hailed a cab to the hospital.
Exhausted, her eyes red and swollen from crying, her steps faltered. All she wanted was to see Antonio, to know he was safe.
Upon reaching Antonio's hospital room, she heard the familiar sound of his coughing. Relief washed over her, a weight lifting from her heart.
But as she moved to enter, she glanced through the glass window in the door. There, she saw Serene, tenderly feeding Antonio...
