Chapter 816 I Love Him, Not You
She walked out somewhat puzzled, saw the delivery man at the door, and asked, "Are you sure this package is for me? I haven't bought anything recently."
The delivery man glanced at the slip, "The sender is Sofia. Do you need to confirm?"
"Sofia?" Sarah frowned, "Then it is mine."
But she still couldn't figure it out. Didn't they just meet yesterday? Why did Sofia send her such a big box by courier?
After signing for it, she opened the package right at the door.
Inside were all the things a newborn could use, even toiletries, and toys that could be played with for several years.
Sarah looked for a long time and found a letter inside.
Sofia said it was a gift for the baby in her belly.
[Sarah, you've been through so much. I hope you can have a smooth and peaceful life from now on, and that your children can grow up healthy. I can't give much, but the most important thing is that I hope you can be happy.]
[Maybe I won't have that chance myself, so you should be a little happier, for both of us.]
[When the baby is born, you must tell them that I have always been looking forward to their arrival, and they should grow up happily and carefree.]
A handwritten letter, every word from Sofia was heartfelt.
Sarah was deeply moved and couldn't help but shed tears. "Why did Sofia have to make it so emotional!"
There was still some time before the baby was due, so why did Sofia suddenly send this?
The more she thought about it, the more something felt off. She immediately made a call, but Sofia's phone number had become disconnected.
They had just talked on the phone yesterday!
Sarah was stunned for a while, still not understanding what was going on, when suddenly a sharp screech of brakes came from the door, startling her. She looked up.
A silver-gray Cadillac was parked diagonally on the road, showing how urgently the driver had stopped.
Then, Alex, dressed in a shirt, quickly rushed out of the driver's seat, shouting, "Sarah!"
Sarah was a bit overwhelmed, not knowing what happened to them.
She was very puzzled, "Alex? Weren't you on a business trip?"
Alex, looking anxious and worried, walked up to her in big strides. "I was on a business trip, but this morning I found out I couldn't reach Sofia! Her phone number is disconnected. I was so worried, that I took the earliest flight back. As soon as I landed, I went to her house and found out she had moved out, so I came to find you! Has she contacted you?"
Hearing that, Sarah was also stunned, "I... she... I just found out her number was disconnected too. But I saw her yesterday. She must have moved out yesterday. But today, she sent me a box of things and left a letter. I don't know what she means! Alex, did you two have a fight recently? Is she trying to avoid you?"
Alex, frustrated, ran his hands through his hair, "No! She didn't show any signs, she just disappeared suddenly!"
He paced back and forth nervously, then suddenly squatted down and took out the letter Sofia had written from the package to read it carefully.
Then, his voice trembled, "She... she planned this all along! She planned to leave here, leave me, she doesn't want me anymore!"
Sarah was completely panicked too, with countless questions in her mind, but she had to calm Alex down first, "Alex, don't worry, let's go inside and talk."
Since Sofia had made thorough preparations before leaving, something irreversible must have happened. They had to investigate the matter behind this first.
Alex didn't move, so she pulled him.
"Alex, let's go inside," Sarah said.
Alex, like a soulless person, let her lead him.
Inside the villa, Sarah briefly explained the situation to Antonio, tears streaming down her face, "You need to find out what's going on with Sofia quickly!"
Sarah thought it was all her fault. If she had noticed something was wrong with Sofia yesterday, maybe she wouldn't have left so quietly.
"Don't worry." Antonio squeezed her hand gently, "I'll have someone look into it right away. Sofia's family has some standing in Luminara, so it shouldn't be hard to find out."
James worked efficiently and soon had news.
"Mr. Valencia, the Newman Family and the Harris Family in Luminara are getting married. This has caused quite a stir locally, and invitations have already been sent out. Ms. Harris must have gone back to Luminara to get married." James spoke while observing everyone's reactions, carefully handing over a tablet. "Here's an invitation someone posted."
Alex didn't move, his eyes filled with gloom.
Sarah was so shocked her jaw almost dropped.
Why was Sofia marrying Virgil again? Hadn't their families' engagement been called off?
Sarah couldn't believe it and quickly took the tablet, but the invitation indeed had photos of Sofia and Virgilstanding close together, smiling lovingly.
Maybe because the photo was so striking, even from a distance, Alex could see clearly. That happy smile pierced his eyes.
In an instant, he finally understood what it meant to be heartbroken. That feeling was indescribable.
It was different from the pain of their previous arguments.
Alex had never thought Sofia would be with another man, appearing on an engagement invitation, and smiling so brightly.
How could this be? How could Sofia marry someone else?
"Alex." Sarah was also surprised, but more than that, she was worried about Sofia, "Sofia must have her reasons, you..."
She wanted to persuade him not to overthink it, but with the facts in front of him, how could he not?
"Sofia must not want this, don't give up, okay?" Sarah added.
Alex smiled bitterly, his eyes reflecting shattered light.
"Let's leave it at that. I'm tired, I'm going home." He slowly turned and walked away with heavy steps.
Alex drove home, his eyes bloodshot with extreme suppression.
He didn't want to think about the worst outcome, repeatedly telling himself that Sofia loved him. She must have her reasons.
He even thought about going to Luminara immediately to bring her back.
But when he got home and saw the things in the living room, Alex felt like he was plunged into an abyss again.
Clearly, Sofia had been to his house before she left.
She had taken all her things from his place. What was left were their shared memories.
The gifts Alex had given her on holidays and anniversaries, the handmade cups they made together, even the developed photos, she had left them all.
And a breakup letter.
The first sentence was: [Alex, we're breaking up.]
[These past times with you were pleasant, but unfortunately, I still couldn't fall in love with you.]
[I was with you just to spite the person I truly love. After all this time, he's now willing to lower his pride for me and even give me his property, so I've decided to forgive and go back to accept his proposal.]
[Don't try to do anything. I was just playing with you. The most important thing is, I love him, not you.]
