Chapter 421 True and False, Testing the Waters

"Huddled together chatting?" Serene paused for a moment. "What do you mean by 'huddled together chatting'?"

"The nurse said that they have been affectionately hugging outside the emergency room, talking and laughing," the doctor explained.

"What?" Serene widened her eyes, disbelief written all over her face.

From the recording Victor had provided, hadn't they already reached the point of irreconcilable differences? Weren't they getting a divorce?!

How could they still be hugging and chatting outside her hospital room? She was at death's door, yet they could still laugh and talk together!

'Do these two have any conscience at all?!'

Serene felt a surge of blood almost rushing out of her mouth in outrage!

'Could it be that the divorce is a sham?'

Serene hummed coldly, calming herself down.

It didn't matter if it was true or false; she would find out with a single test.

"Ms. Jerrett, are you alright?" The doctor looked at Serene's ever-changing expression and cautiously asked.

Serene shook her head. "I'm fine. You'll know what to say when you go out later."

The doctor replied respectfully, "Rest assured, I have already prepared everything."

Only then did Serene feel relieved, though the doubt lingering in her heart remained. It wouldn't impede her next steps.

Antonio and Sarah had been waiting outside the hospital room. Upon seeing the doctor coming out, they quickly approached.

"Doctor, please tell us the situation." Sarah asked.

"Well, although she is no longer in a critical condition, the patient is still physically weak. We can only ensure her physical health, but not her mental state." the doctor explained.

"What should we do then?" Sarah expressed her concerns.

Most people possessed a survival instinct. However, even with a skilled doctor, this instinct's absence rendered assistance futile.

"The patient's mental state is currently fragile. Avoid any more stimuli, or I cannot guarantee that she won't attempt suicide again," the doctor advised.

Antonio and Sarah sighed simultaneously upon hearing that.

The couple entered the hospital room, where Serene was still pretending to be unconscious.

"Antonio, maybe you should go back first. I'll stay here," Sarah suggested, concerned about Antonio's concussion.

After all, he hadn't fully recovered.

"How can I leave you here alone?" Antonio held Sarah's waist, strongly refusing.

Serene clenched her fist secretly and slowly opened her eyes. "W-where am I?"

"Ms. Jerrett, you're awake."

Sarah breathed a sigh of relief.

"Sarah, Antonio, why are you two here?" Serene sat up with the support of the bedside. "Didn't I..."

Antonio furrowed his brow slightly. "We arrived in time and brought you to the hospital."

"W-Why did you save me? I'm already like this, why bother saving me?"

Serene burst into tears, full of grief.

"No matter what happens, you can't disregard your own life. I promised to save your leg, and I won't let it all end in death." Antonio's tone was somewhat cold.

He couldn't quite understand why he emerged uninjured from the supposedly serious accident while Serene faced the prospect of amputation.

Still, it was Serene who saved him.

Seeing her in such pain that she wanted to end her own life, Antonio could only hope that she would pull herself together and keep living.

"How could you understand my pain?" Serene's hands flew to cover her face. "First, because of my father's illness, my boyfriend grew distant. And now, with this injury, he abandoned me!"

Antonio and Sarah exchanged a surprised glance.

"Boyfriend? When did you get a boyfriend?"
