Chapter 144 Yes, I Like Him
As soon as the words left her mouth, Antonio's face twisted, and his brows knitted together.
He knew Philip wanted them to split.
Was Philip so desperate to break them up that he'd send someone to off her kids?
A wild thought zipped through Antonio's mind, and his eyes went dark.
He shot Sarah a sharp look and snapped, "Sarah, did you dig this up yourself, or did Alex feed you this crap?"
Seeing Antonio had figured it out, Sarah didn't bother hiding it. "Yeah, Alex found out. You think everyone’s gonna fall for your BS?"
She had to give Alex props. Without him, she might've been duped forever, thanking Antonio like a fool for today!
Antonio stepped up, eyes blazing, towering over Sarah. "I knew it. Alex says jump, and you ask how high? You come here to grill me based on his word?"
Did she trust that guy so much?
Sarah didn't flinch, meeting Antonio's fierce gaze with her own fiery eyes. "Alex even caught the guy!"
"How do you know that 'guy' wasn't just a stooge Alex hired to put on a show?" Antonio roared, his breath coming fast, veins popping on his forehead.
Damn it, he knew something was fishy.
So it was Alex stirring the pot all along!
Just as Sarah believed Alex's story and thought this was a plot by him and Philip, Antonio was convinced Alex was framing him to mess things up between him and Sarah!
But Sarah's face was full of scorn, like everything he said was just lame excuses.
Seeing her look, Antonio felt a stab of pain in his chest.
He growled, "It's Alex causing trouble! You should be grilling him, not me!"
His anger was like a storm.
But it didn't scare Sarah; it just made her madder.
Sarah glared daggers at Antonio.
The room was thick with tension.
"You're the one causing trouble!" Sarah spat, her eyes like daggers. "Antonio, I know what you're up to. You can't stand Alex and wanna use this to mess us up. Keep dreaming. Let me tell you, even if your family's got power, Alex is a million times better than you!"
Those words hit Antonio like a freight train, slicing right through his chest.
In a flash, his heart was bleeding and burning.
Antonio's chiseled face tightened up, pain etched between his brows.
"What did you just say?" Antonio croaked, his voice strained, breathing heavy.
'How could you say that! Do you really like Alex that much?' he thought.
His eyes blazed with anger and deep hurt.
Antonio couldn't help but push on, "Do you like him so much that you blindly believe everything he says and then come to grill me?"
As soon as he said it, he realized how much effort that short sentence took.
What really freaked him out was the fear she might actually say yes...
Sarah took a couple of deep breaths and said, "But I don't blindly believe everything he says. I trust him, which is why I believe him."
The unspoken message? Antonio wasn't trustworthy.
Sarah frowned, puzzled why she just admitted liking Alex.
Maybe it was to make Antonio back off for good.
Right now, Antonio couldn't think about anything else.
Her words echoed in his mind.
Hearing her admit her feelings for Alex was a gut punch to Antonio.
His heart felt like it was being ripped apart, even breathing was hard.
For a moment, the pain was so intense he couldn't speak.
Sarah ignored his pained look, glaring at him and giving a final warning, "Antonio, don't think you can push us around. If anyone messes with Ethan and Harper, I swear they'll pay!"
Before leaving, Sarah added, "Make sure you tell Philip exactly what I said!"
Her kids were her line in the sand, and she wasn't putting up with any crap this time!
Watching Sarah storm out, Antonio felt like he'd been hit by an invisible force, stumbling back a step.
His face was dark, his whole body tense, standing there panting, emotions raging in his eyes.
After a while, Antonio grabbed the glass on the table and hurled it against the wall.
With a crash, the glass shattered, and something inside Antonio shattered too. He stormed out of the room.
He had to get to the bottom of this himself!
