Chapter 797 Waiting for Death

James's heart pounded. In an instant, relying on the tacit understanding from working with Antonio for many years, he blurted out, "Of course I know!"

After speaking, he scratched his head, "Uh, it's just that Mr. Valencia wanted me to stay here to help you and Mr. Miller, so he didn't call me back. Besides, he has another assistant with him."

He spoke without changing his expression, but he was very nervous, unsure if what he said would work.

Fortunately, Sarah didn't have any special reaction. "Oh, you're right."

She waved her hand, "It's fine, go ahead and get busy."

After speaking, James hurriedly left, while Sarah felt an inexplicable sense of unease, as if something serious was about to happen.

Sarah went to the hospital again and only returned with Mary in the evening. She handed Mary the daily necessities she bought during the day, "Let me know if you need anything else, and we'll go buy it together."

"Thank you, Sarah." Mary reached out to take them, "Actually, I brought my own stuff. You don't have to take special care of me; I can take care of myself."

"I know." Sarah couldn't help but pat her on the head and said with a smile, "You're the best!"

She really needed to thank Mary. Thanks to her staying with Cynthia, she could relax a bit.

"Then I'll go upstairs first. Sarah, you should rest early too."

"Okay, good night."

When the children were all asleep, the entire villa fell into silence, and even the sound of insects outside could be heard clearly.

Sarah returned to her room, washed up, and lay on the bed, taking out her phone to send a message to Antonio.

She didn't hesitate and directly dialed a video call.

Unexpectedly, Antonio, who usually answered immediately, let the ringtone go on for a long time.

Almost at the moment it was about to hang up automatically, Antonio answered, but Sarah couldn't see his face, only darkness.

"Where are you? Why is it so dark?" Sarah frowned, feeling even more uneasy.

"I'm working overtime at the office." Antonio's demeanor was as gentle as ever, smiling as he explained, "Didn't I tell you there's an important client the day after tomorrow? The proposal still needs some optimization."

"Working this late? But why aren't the lights on in the office?"

Antonio paused and said, "I was sleepy just now and took a nap in the chair. Maybe the secretary saw and turned off the lights for me. I'll rest a bit more and get up soon."

Sarah smiled helplessly. Antonio, the big boss managing several companies, would only relax in front of her.

She was about to say something nice to comfort Antonio when she suddenly felt the camera shake, and then a faint voice broadcast came through the receiver, like someone calling out.

She frowned slightly, "I think I heard something like the sound from a hospital or an airport?"

"What are you talking about? Don't scare me." Antonio deliberately shrugged his shoulders, "I'm the only one in the company now; even the secretary has left!"

Sarah raised an eyebrow, "Okay, maybe I heard wrong?"

She lifted her hand to touch the black silhouette on the screen, "It's late, you should go back and rest. You need to be well-rested to work better."

"Okay." Antonio responded, "I'll go back now. You get some rest too. Good night, honey."

After hanging up, Antonio slowly exhaled.

He was indeed still in the hospital.

The day after tomorrow was the scheduled surgery date, and he was still undergoing a series of preoperative tests.

When he saw the call, he specifically ran to the stairwell to answer it and had Timothy turn off the lights.

Fortunately, Sarah didn't get suspicious. If there had been any more noise outside, he wouldn't have been able to hide it.

Meanwhile, Sarah lay in bed, feeling an emptiness in her heart.

She should have been used to nights without Antonio by her side, but somehow, tonight was especially hard to bear.

Not only that, but she also had a nightmare.

In the dream, Antonio was lying on a hospital bed, connected to various machines and tubes, and even then, he didn't make it.

Sarah woke up with a start, anxiously checking the time, finding only less than two hours had passed.

Thinking of that dream, she instinctively wanted to call Antonio, but then realized he was probably already asleep.

Finally, she had to give up, considering Antonio was already very tired.

Sarah raised her hand to cover her heart, feeling increasingly uneasy.

Meanwhile, Antonio had just finished his preoperative tests and was still wearing sterile clothing.

"All indicators are very good; the surgery can proceed as scheduled tomorrow." Timothy reviewed the data in his hand. Not hearing a response, he looked up, "Do you have any questions?"

Antonio frowned deeply, not speaking.

He should have felt relieved upon hearing this news.

But somehow, the heavy feeling in his heart was even stronger than before.

He had been eager for the surgery because he was worried Harold might trigger the chip's explosive device.

But now, Harold's threat was gone.

Did he still need to rush to remove the chip from his body?

At this moment, Antonio began to hesitate, worried that if the surgery failed, what would happen to Sarah? He wouldn't even have the chance to say goodbye to her and their children in person.

He wouldn't even be able to see the child born.

"How about, can we wait a bit longer?" Antonio closed his eyes and exhaled deeply, "I always thought I was fully prepared, but now I realize..."

He was so reluctant.

"I don't recommend it." Timothy's words were direct, "I can't make the decision for you, but you should do it now."

"The chip and the cardiovascular connection wires are gradually fusing together. You should understand that if the surgery isn't done soon, it will also pose a life-threatening risk, and the difficulty of the surgery will increase over time."

He had to do it sooner or later, and the sooner, the better.

Antonio exhaled, the atmosphere heavy and oppressive.

After a long time, he slowly spoke, "Let me think about it."

Timothy understood his feelings and didn't push him, instead saying, "In any case, the research institute is ready. Make your decision as soon as possible."

Antonio's identity was special, and he required absolute confidentiality for this matter, so the surgery was planned to be conducted in another research lab where Timothy was involved. The equipment there was more advanced, and the doctors were nearly top-notch.

Antonio said in a deep voice, "Thank you."

Timothy raised an eyebrow, "Go back and rest early. Make your decision and inform me anytime."

Although he had already considered Antonio a friend, persuasion wouldn't help in this matter; Antonio had to come to terms with it himself.

Antonio changed his clothes and returned to the hotel. After showering, he lay on the bed, tossing and turning.

He always thought he could rationally handle this matter, but when the choice was right in front of him, he realized how difficult the decision was.

If he had the surgery immediately, there was a risk to his life.

If he didn't have the surgery, he was also waiting to die.
