Chapter 801 Divorce Agreement, Signed
"How could this be?"Antonio's hair was damp with nervous sweat. "I just didn't expect you to show up suddenly. When did you get here? So early in the morning, how did you come? Did something happen? If there's anything, just call me. Why go through all this trouble to come here?"
By the end, he sternly said, "That James, so useless! How could he let you come all this way alone without informing me first?"
If she listened closely, she could hear a slight tremor in Antonio's usually deep and pleasant voice.
Sarah thought to herself, 'Antonio is scared. What is he afraid of?'
"I wanted to surprise you," Sarah's other hand, hanging by her side, suddenly clenched, her nails digging deep into her palm. "Where are you going now?"
Antonio's eyes flickered slightly. "Of course, I'm going to work. I just texted you, and I mentioned before that I have to personally accompany an important client to inspect the factory today, so I might not be able to reply to your messages all day."
As he spoke, he turned and opened the door. "You must be tired from the flight. Go back to the room and rest, and wait for me."
He didn't finish his sentence.
Because his mind was in chaos, unsure of how to handle the situation.
Even if Sarah stayed in the hotel today, she wouldn't be able to wait for him.
Even if the surgery went smoothly, he would still need to spend 48 hours in the ICU.
However, Sarah didn't seem to want to hear anything more.
She raised her hand and pressed it against his. "No need."
Antonio could clearly feel that her grip was stronger than usual. She looked him straight in the eye and said, "I'm going with you."
Antonio smiled helplessly and still opened the door, pulling her inside. "Sarah, I'm going to work, and the factory environment isn't good for the baby. You shouldn't go. Be good."
His heart was already uncontrollably panicking.
What puzzled him even more was why Sarah would suddenly come over without any warning.
Sarah's eyes shone brightly, as if they could pierce through one's soul. Her lips parted slightly. "It's okay. I'm not that fragile."
Antonio was silent.
He wanted to explain when he heard her say, "Do you think it's bad for me to go with you, or are you hiding something from me that you don't want me to know?"
Sarah now seriously suspected that Antonio was hiding more than just today's matter from her!
He could lie to her right to her face! What about before? How many lies had he told?
The sky outside was already brightening. The curtains were wide open, and Antonio could clearly see the red veins in Sarah's eyes, feeling both heartache and helplessness. "Sarah, don't overthink."
Facing her intense gaze, he suddenly felt a deep sense of unease. "You have dark circles under your eyes. How about you rest for a bit? I'll explain everything when you wake up."
Sarah looked at him with a half-smile. "Wake up?"
Did he really think she was that naive? By the time she woke up, it would probably be too late for everything!
Just as Antonio was about to speak, his phone rang in his pocket. He immediately tensed up, his thin lips pressed into a straight line, visibly nervous.
He instinctively wanted to hang up, but Sarah stopped him. "Answer it. In front of me."
"It's nothing, it's just..." Antonio's refusal was still on his lips when Sarah snatched the phone from him. "If you won't answer, I will!"
She moved quickly, and before Antonio could react, he heard Timothy's voice from the receiver. "Have you left yet? Everything is ready here. Once you arrive, we can start immediately..."
Antonio's heart sank heavily, and he quickly grabbed the phone and ended the call.
A second later, the next word would have been "surgery."
Sarah stared at him, his handsome face calm and composed, showing no signs of lying.
If she hadn't already known, she might have been fooled by his serious demeanor, just like countless times before, believing his lies!
"It must be the factory getting impatient. I'll just let them go ahead, and I'll stay with you for a while." Antonio said as he picked up his phone to text Timothy, trying to postpone the surgery. The situation today was too sudden; he couldn't go.
Before he could send the message, the phone was snatched away again.
"Sarah!"
Sarah ignored him, looking at the chat interface with Timothy on his phone screen and the unsent message "Change of plans, postpone the surgery." She seemed frozen in place.
Sarah had considered countless possibilities throughout the night, the most likely being that Antonio had some terminal illness and needed Timothy to secretly treat him!
After all, Timothy was a doctor!
Now that the truth was right in front of her, Sarah couldn't hold back any longer.
"What does this mean?" She shouted, the facade she had been maintaining completely crumbling, leaving only a pale face and eyes filled with a myriad of emotions.
Antonio raised his hand to his forehead, feeling a pain so deep he couldn't speak, his limbs stiffening.
At this point, lies were meaningless.
But he still didn't know how to begin.
Seeing him like this, Sarah's anger grew, like a dam breaking, flooding in.
Her chest heaved violently, her eyes red and brimming with tears. She laughed in anger, "Fine, you still won't say it, right? Okay, I'll give you this chance. From now on, your matters have nothing to do with me. You don't need to tell me anything."
Antonio looked up in a daze, seeing her serious and stubborn expression, and feeling a lump in his throat.
He reached out to hug her, but Sarah dodged, "Don't touch me!"
Antonio's hand clenched and unclenched repeatedly, mirroring the tangled knot in his heart.
Sarah's breathing was erratic as she opened her bag with trembling hands.
After rummaging for a while, she pulled out two pieces of paper and threw them at Antonio. "Sign this!"
She had prepared this overnight, unable to think of anything else that could shock Antonio!
Antonio instinctively caught them, his eyes glancing over her hurt and distant face, a flash of pain in his eyes. "Sarah."
"What are you looking at me for?" Sarah had no patience for any emotional drama, her face cold as she shouted, "Look at what's in your hand! As long as you sign this, your matters have nothing to do with me! I won't care anymore!"
Antonio's eyes flickered, and he finally looked down at the papers in his hand. As he unfolded them, the words that caught his eye were "Divorce Agreement."
His hand loosened, and the papers fell to the ground.
Even so, the contents were still clearly visible.
"Sarah, what do you mean by this?"
