Chapter 55 Go and Coax Her
Antonio rolled back to the villa, and the second he stepped in, Harper came sprinting over.
She'd been glued to the floor-to-ceiling window, and when she spotted Antonio's car, she bolted outside. But man, she froze when she saw him.
Dude had a bandage on his forehead, hair all over the place, and looked like he hadn't slept in days.
His fancy suit was trashed, buttons on his white shirt popped open, and there were bloodstains on his collar, chest, and sleeves. Clearly, he'd been in a brawl.
Harper's face went ghostly white.
She thought, 'Antonio's hurt! Where's Sarah? Why isn't she with him?'
Harper had a million questions buzzing in her head. After a beat, she cautiously asked, "What happened?"
Antonio had totally forgotten Harper was home. Seeing her freaked-out face, he glanced down and noticed Sarah's blood still on him. Yeah, not exactly a kid-friendly look.
Thinking Harper was scared, the anger on his face melted into concern. He quickly reassured her, "Don't sweat it, Harper. I'm good."
Harper nodded, then nervously asked, "I woke up and Luna was gone. Do you know where she went?"
Antonio's eyes darkened at that. After a moment's hesitation, he said, "Luna's in the hospital."
"What!" Harper gasped, her face going even paler, panic setting in. "How did she get hurt? Is it serious?"
Antonio sighed softly and patted her head. "Chill, she's got some minor injuries. She's fine now, just resting at the hospital. She'll be back soon. I'll make sure someone's here to look after you."
With that, Antonio headed straight upstairs.
He took a long shower, scrubbing away the exhaustion, changed into fresh clothes, and was ready to bounce. When he came back down, Harper was still waiting for him.
Harper twisted her little hands and weakly said, "I wanna see Luna."
Worried Antonio might say no, she quickly added, "Luna's always been so good to me. Now that she's hurt, I should go see her."
Antonio stayed silent, his face unreadable.
Just when Harper thought he was gonna shut her down, he finally said, "Alright. I'll take you."
In the car, Antonio kept his cold, silent vibe. Harper sat in the back, sneaking glances at him.
Antonio seemed seriously pissed. What went down last night?
Harper had asked earlier, but he didn't spill. She needed to get him talking.
Thinking fast, Harper cautiously said, "You seem to care a lot about Luna."
Antonio paused before replying, "She's my wife."
Harper's eyes widened, stopping the gasp that almost escaped her lips.
Antonio had figured out Sarah's identity!
What now?
Judging by his face, he didn't seem mad!
Antonio was focused on driving and didn't catch Harper's reaction.
Harper swallowed hard and played dumb, "Isn't your wife Lisa?"
"Lisa? Nah, she was never my wife." Antonio paused for a couple of seconds before continuing, "I got married a long time ago. Everything was good until an accident five years back. After that, my wife disappeared."
He didn't know why he was spilling all this, especially to someone like Harper.
Realizing this, Antonio clammed up and went silent again.
Seeing Antonio clamming up, Harper cautiously asked, "Do you still love your wife?"
She blinked her big eyes, looking at Antonio with anticipation.
But Antonio wasn't in the mood to notice Harper's puppy-dog eyes.
Hearing her question, his eyes got even darker.
Love?
He should've long forgotten Sarah, the one who'd betrayed him so deeply.
But Sarah was still alive.
Seeing her again, Antonio couldn't shake the urge; he just wanted to keep her close.
After a long pause, Antonio said, "I won't let her leave again."
His answer was vague, but his voice was low and firm, like he was talking to himself.
Harper's eyes lit up, her worries melting into joy.
Awesome!
Antonio and she were on the same page!
They both wanted to stick with Sarah!
Holding back her smile, she quickly said, "Actually, I've found Luna to have a soft heart. You should try to coax her!"
Antonio was taken aback for a moment.
In the hospital, Sarah leaned against the headboard, fuming but unable to vent.
Right now, Antonio had the surveillance tape, and she was stuck.
If he destroyed the tape, proving Brady's innocence would be impossible.
Sarah was beyond frustrated. Saving Brady had been delayed too long.
If it weren't for Antonio...
Just as she was stewing, there was a noise outside the door.
"Mr. Valencia." As soon as Sarah heard it, she knew Antonio was back.
She braced herself, ready to face him, but when the door opened, two people walked in.
Sarah was immediately stunned. Shouldn't Ethan and Harper be safely at Michael's house?
Seeing Sarah, Harper finally felt relieved. She ran over, her young face full of concern. "Luna, I heard you were hurt, so I came to see you. Where are you hurt? It must hurt a lot."
Faced with Harper's concern, Sarah's heart sank. She knew Harper had run back on her own.
However, it seemed Harper's identity hadn't been exposed yet. She had to keep up the act to protect Harper.
Thinking this, Sarah smiled with relief. "Harper, you're sweet. Just minor injuries, not hurting anymore."
She didn't even bother to glance at Antonio and coldly said, "I want to be discharged from the hospital."
Antonio's voice was equally cold. "You can be discharged, but you can only come home with me."
Sarah's anger flared up again, and she glared at him. "We have no relationship. Why should I go home with you?"
Antonio's face remained calm. "We haven't signed a divorce agreement, so we're still married."
Hearing the word "married," Sarah instinctively glanced at Harper and saw that her expression was unchanged. She understood that Antonio had probably told her about their relationship.
Sarah, no longer holding back, gripped the bedsheet tightly and cursed, "Do you have any shame!"
Antonio's eyes were dark. He suddenly changed the subject. "Don't you want the surveillance tape? Come home with me. Once your injuries are healed, I might consider giving it to you."
He said he'd give the tape to Sarah, but his face was icy, and his tone was harsh.
Harper almost rolled her eyes. She had just reminded Antonio to coax Sarah, but what was he talking about?
Sarah was provoked, glaring into Antonio's eyes as if knives were about to shoot out.
Antonio stared back coldly, his thin lips curling into a faint smile.
This method was the most effective, wasn't it?
