Chapter 476 Trust Me
Antonio was overwhelmed with anxiety, fearing the prospect of disappointment in Sarah's eyes, a panic he had never experienced before. Desperate, he grasped Sarah's hand and pleaded, "Can you trust me, please? I swear to God, I haven't touched even a finger of hers. You are the only one in my heart!"
Spiritually drained, Sarah shook off Antonio's hand and said coldly, "God will not forgive you for this. Antonio, take your Ms. Jerrett and leave immediately, or I'll have to apply for a restraining order!"
With that said, Sarah went straight back into the ward and promptly locked the door from the inside.
Antonio knocked on the door forcefully. "Sarah, can you open the door, please? Listen to me; it's not like she said."
Sarah covered her ears, leaning against the door of the ward, and roared, "Get lost! All of you, get lost!"
Listening to Sarah's screams inside, Antonio's knocking gradually ceased. He didn't want things to turn out this way; he just wanted to explain properly and live happily with Sarah.
“Sarah, can we both calm down, please?”
Sarah didn't respond. She had been calm enough that night, but that didn't mean she could accept Serene showing up to provoke her. Furthermore, Sarah firmly believed that Brady's incident must be related to Serene!
Defeated, Antonio slumped outside the ward, his head resting on the door, his palm sliding down the panel to hang limply at his side.
Seeing Antonio like this, a sense of triumph slowly rose in Serene's heart. With things having progressed to this point, there was surely no need for any further communication between Antonio and Sarah, right?
Serene narrowed her eyes slightly, hiding a smirk, and said softly, "Antonio, let's go back first. We’ll explain things to Sarah once she's had a chance to calm down. I promise I'll help you talk to her properly."
Antonio clenched his fist, stood up silently, and walked behind Serene without a word. He took hold of her wheelchair and pushed it toward the elevator.
Serene felt a surge of delight. After all the chaos, Antonio probably didn't have the patience for further explanations, especially since they had both woken up in the same bed— what need was there for further clarification?
"Antonio, let's go grab something to eat. What do you feel like? Shall we go out, or should I arrange for something to be delivered to my ward?"
Internally ecstatic, Serene was determined to use this opportunity to completely make Antonio hers. She had to make sure Sarah would have no chance of turning things around!
However, Antonio did not reply; he just kept pushing the wheelchair in silence.
Serene was in no rush. “If you’re not hungry, take some rest for now. You must be tired too. We can…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Antonio had already reached the elevator.
The doors opened, and Antonio pushed Serene straight into it.
Serene was startled and quickly turned her wheelchair to face Antonio.
"Antonio, what are you doing? We..."
“Serene,” he warned her, “whatever is happening between Sarah and me, it’s none of your business. From now on, you are not allowed to appear in front of Sarah, and stop bothering us!”
Serene looked at Antonio in disbelief. She had known him for so long, but she had never seen such impatience on his face or heard him speak with such severity.
How could this be...
Did she make a wrong move?
“Antonio, I really just came here to help, to apologize to Sarah. I didn’t mean anything else!” Serene hurriedly explained, but Antonio’s mind was made up.
Serene tried to roll out of the elevator but was harshly pushed back by Antonio.
"Serene, I will investigate yesterday's events thoroughly. I know how much alcohol I can handle, and I'm aware of what I did or didn't do."
"If I find concrete evidence that you've been deceiving me, even if you saved my life a thousand times, it won’t outweigh the harm you’ve done to Sarah this time! I’ll say it one last time, don't try any tricks under my watch! You can't bear the consequences!"
With that, Antonio fiercely pressed the elevator close button.
Cold sweat covered Serene as she remained seated in the wheelchair. If she hadn't been gripping the armrests tightly, she might have stood up. She thought this was a good opportunity to win Antonio over, but instead, she drove him further away!
Serene watched helplessly as Antonio's angry face became obscured by the closing elevator doors, only realizing the layers of cold sweat on her back once they were fully shut.
She took a deep breath, calming her racing heart as the elevator slowly descended…
After sending Serene away, Antonio promptly headed to the nurse's station and requested the nurse to unlock the ward door.
Unaware of what had happened, the nurse complied and let Antonio in.
Sarah had just finished wiping Brady's face and was tidying up in the bathroom. As she emerged, she saw that Antonio already seated on the sofa.
She sighed in resignation, lacking the energy to drive him away.
“Antonio, what exactly do you want? Do you really have to push me to this point?”
Sarah sat on the hospital bed weakly, her hands supporting her forehead, palms trembling.
Antonio shook his head repeatedly. "No, Sarah, I’m not trying to pressure you into anything. I truly just want to explain things properly. I didn't go to the office yesterday, but I did went to see Serene."
Sarah got up to leave; she no longer wanted to hear Antonio repeating those stories about drinking. She didn’t want to listen to a single word.
Observing her response, Antonio urgently exclaimed, "Sarah, I actually met with her to clarify things about Brady!"
Sarah halted as she was opening the door. "What did you say?"
