Chapter 140 Sudden Accident
In the hotel room, Harper was sprawled out on the sofa, looking bored out of her mind.
Antonio was MIA, and Alex and Sarah were off doing their own thing. All her toys and fairy tale books were back at the villa.
And the TV? Total snoozefest.
Harper let out a big, dramatic sigh.
Ethan, chilling by the window with a book, heard it and glanced over to see Harper pouting like a kid who lost their candy.
A rare, soft smile crept onto his usually cool face. "TV that bad, huh? Wanna read with me?"
Harper gave the book a lazy look and scrunched up her nose. "Nah."
Ethan chuckled, shaking his head as he put the book down, thinking hard.
Harper, always so full of energy, must be going nuts stuck in the room.
But they couldn't just wander off, so what now?
Ethan's eyes drifted to the window, and suddenly, he lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Harper, check this out!" Ethan grinned, waving her over.
"What is it?" Harper grumbled, dragging herself to the window.
But then her eyes went wide, and she lit up with excitement. "Mommy!"
Her shout startled Sarah, who was on the balcony with her phone.
She rushed in, looking worried. "What's wrong?"
Sarah's first thought was that Antonio was causing trouble again, but it was just the kids in the room.
When she looked at Harper, she saw her with hands clasped, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
So, five minutes later, Sarah was leading the kids to the hotel's play area.
Harper had a big, satisfied smile as she looked around. "Now this is more like it!"
And with that, she dashed inside.
Sarah wanted to say something, but Harper was already diving into the ball pit.
She shook her head with a mix of helplessness and affection, then patted Ethan on the shoulder. "Ethan, you go play too. Mommy's got another call to make."
She was busy with the divorce, but the kids didn't need to be dragged into it.
Figuring out how to ditch Antonio and keep the kids safe was her top priority. As for the children, they needed to be shielded from all the drama.
"I got it, Mommy. Go ahead, I'll watch Harper!" Ethan nodded and ran to the ball pit.
Sarah watched for a moment, making sure there were staff around, then walked off to make her call.
There were already a few kids in the ball pit. Ethan ran to the edge, looking for Harper.
Suddenly, a little head popped out of the balls, and a chubby face beamed at him, eyes twinkling.
"Ethan, what are you waiting for? Get in here!" Harper waved excitedly.
Ethan chuckled. He quickly gauged the pit's depth and stepped in.
But before he could get his footing, a bunch of balls came flying at him, followed by Harper's mischievous laughter. "Hahaha! Gotcha, Ethan!"
Ethan shook his head, but a sly grin spread across his face. While Harper was distracted, he scooped up a bunch of balls and tossed them at her.
Harper, caught off guard, retaliated with even more energy.
The kids hadn't had this much fun in ages; they were in their element.
Like fish back in water, they played to their hearts' content.
When Sarah came back, the sight of them playing softened her serious expression, filling her with comfort and hope.
Seeing the kids happy made her feel at ease.
She wished they could always be this carefree and happy.
To ensure that, she had to cut ties with Antonio for good.
Suddenly, a scream cut through the laughter, snapping Sarah out of her thoughts.
She looked over in alarm and saw the metal slide by the pool tipping over, falling straight towards Ethan and Harper!
