Chapter 559 Forgot Something Important
Benjamin's eyes were stormy, his jaw clenched tightly, trembling slightly as if a tempest could hit at any moment.
'This woman… I just saved her life, and this is how she repays me? Like an ungrateful wolf?'
Sarah's chest heaved with emotion, too agitated to care about his expression. After steadying herself, she used all her strength to push him away, "Stay away from me!"
With that, she shot Benjamin an angry glare, turned on her heel, and strode to her car. She started the engine and swung the steering wheel, speeding off until she vanished from sight.
Benjamin had initially intended to ask Daniel to bring over some tissues.
But in a moment of inattention, she had wrenched away from him.
He watched her drive away, and that strange feeling in his heart flickered again, so fast he could barely grasp it. It was as if her cool touch still lingered on his hands, an illusion perhaps.
Benjamin closed his eyes tightly, a laugh escaping him out of sheer exasperation.
Daniel stood aside, nearly scared to death. Benjamin had a reputation as the "devil incarnate" back at the office, and Daniel had never seen anyone dare to treat Benjamin with such disdain!
'But Ms. Miller... She is indeed different…'
Daniel shuddered, his voice shaky as he asked, "Sir, shall we..."
Benjamin glanced at him with an icy stare. "What were we about to do, you don't remember? The prison, to retrieve something."
"Yes!"
Once in his car, Benjamin took a deep breath, attempting to calm the turmoil inside. But then a sudden headache struck.
He pressed a hand to his temple and unintentionally drifted off to sleep. In his dreams, Sarah's tear-stained, blurry face was vivid, as if it had been etched into his mind without him realizing.
Suddenly, the traffic light turned red, the vehicle braked gently, and the abrupt tilt jolted Benjamin awake.
He looked at the traffic signal in a daze.
He had this nagging sense that he had forgotten something very important.
...
Sarah sped home in her car, her grip on the steering wheel tight and her mind racing until she parked abruptly, her tension dissipating along with the emptiness in her chest.
Having calmed down, she now found herself ruminating over her earlier confrontational demeanor, which troubled her.
How had things escalated so quickly? All she had wanted was to have a few words with Antonio, yet she hadn't expected Benjamin to show up out of the blue, mistakenly thinking she was in some kind of despair.
The situation had spiraled out of control.
She just couldn't... come to terms with Benjamin bearing such a resemblance to Antonio, yet treating her with a completely different attitude.
But at that moment, annoyance crept back into Sarah’s mind. She leaned forward, bumping her head gently against the steering wheel a few times.
She'd planned to discuss a collaboration with the Harrington Group later, but after today's outburst, that man must be furious. Would he ever agree now? No one could accuse Benjamin of having a patient disposition.
She’d have to apologize some other time. For now, Sarah felt a strong resistance to facing his disdainful expression again. They were just two lines that would never cross—a truth made evident with each meeting that spun simple matters into chaos, much like yesterday and today.
With a sigh, Sarah got out of her car and walked into her mansion.
Upstairs, the kids, having heard noises from the ground floor, knew their mommy was back. They nudged Ethan, urging him, "Quick! Go tell Mommy!"
They had already hatched their entire plan, only Mommy's approval was needed!
Eager and solemn, Ethan marched to his mother's room.
"Mommy?" He knocked twice and pushed the door open.
Sarah had just set down her bag when she heard the knock and turned around with a smile, reaching out to Ethan. "What's up, sweetheart?"
"Mommy, there's a race at the track tomorrow. Will you come with us, please?" Ethan's big eyes were filled with hope. "We haven't gone out together in so long... Ryan and Harper really want you to come!"
Sarah drew him into her embrace, momentarily lost in thought.
The CL Racetrack held significance for her, too. She hadn't dared go there alone since Antonio's accident; the memories were overwhelming, both numbing and painful.
Now that Serene was gone, Sarah felt she might be ready to start moving forward.
"Sure," she said with a smile. "Mommy will go with you tomorrow."
"Yeah!" Ethan leapt up joyfully and dashed out, eager to share the good news with Ryan and his sister. "You rest, Mommy! I'm going to tell Ryan and sissy!"
Ethan bounded back to the adjacent room, bubbling with excitement as he relayed the good news to his siblings. They all were thrilled."Now we're just one step away!"
Ryan nodded vigorously and pulled out his phone. His little hands were trembling with excitement as he dialed the number. With the call connected, he and his two siblings anxiously awaited a response, their heads huddled close together.
...
Just as Benjamin returned to the office, Isabella approached him.
Her warm gaze swept over him, brimming with guesses and questions, yet she refrained from voicing them. Instead, she delved into the day's agenda.
"Ben, I feel like the new house still needs a few things. Let's go to the furniture store tomorrow?"
They had recently moved into a new villa, and it still lacked a homey touch. Isabella, who cared greatly about the quality of life, wanted to decorate it.
At the mention of "furniture store," Benjamin already lost interest. In his view, such tasks could easily be delegated to an assistant—why waste time on it?
He was contemplating how to decline when his phone rang from his pocket. He answered, "Hello?"
A familiar yet distant crisp voice came through. "Good sir, it's me! I'd like to invite you to a car race show tomorrow that your investment helped make possible!"
Benjamin was taken aback, not expecting that the racetrack had acted so quickly in setting up the show.
His penetrating gaze flickered to Isabella standing next to him. Without much thought, he accepted, "Okay, I will be there on time."
The other end erupted in cheers, and he could also vaguely hear two other pleasing voices, involuntarily making him smile.
Ryan was thrilled, "See you tomorrow, good sir!"
After hanging up, Benjamin calmly turned to Isabella, "I apologize, but I have plans tomorrow. I'll be attending a car race show."
Isabella, who had overheard bits of the phone call, asked, "Ben... when did you invest in car racing?"
"Not long ago."
'Yesterday.'
