Chapter 748 Are You Leaving?

Thinking about it, Antonio's eyes got even darker. Even in the bright sunlight, they looked like they were covered in a layer of mist.

Sarah could read his mind and gently reassured him, "We'll find out the truth eventually."

Just then, her eyes shifted to the side.

She noticed the tombstone, all muddy and messed up from the flood, with plants leaning every which way. A water stain ran from the top, all the way down inside.

She frowned, "Last night's rain was way too heavy."

Antonio followed her gaze and saw the mess too.

"Should we check inside?" Sarah tugged at his hand, suggesting, "It's Mom's grave. What if the urn got flooded?"

Antonio nodded. They couldn't just leave it like that.

He took off his jacket and handed it to her, rolling up his shirt sleeves.

With almost no effort, he moved the stone slab blocking the top. A square box sat in the middle of the pooled water, looking untouched.

This was Carter's ashes.

Seeing that, Antonio's eyes were a mix of emotions. He hesitated for a moment before taking out the urn. Just as he was about to call the caretaker to clean up the water, he saw Sarah's puzzled look.

"Wait."

"What is it?" he asked.

"Look!" Sarah pointed to the bottom of the urn, where a faint yellow mud color was seeping through the water-soaked seams.

But the tomb chamber was paved with marble; there shouldn't be any mud. How could that color be seeping through?

Thinking about it, they exchanged a glance, instantly getting serious.

Without much thought, Antonio placed the urn on the stone platform and opened it. What they saw inside left them both stunned. The urn was filled not with ashes, but with mud!

Sarah gasped.

'Why would Harold put fake ashes in the urn and place it in the best cemetery?' they both wondered.

Antonio's eyes were cold. His grip on the lid tightened.

"No wonder he never comes!" he said.

Carter's real ashes weren't here at all! Where did he put the real ashes?

The more Antonio thought about it, the more terrified he became, feeling a chill all over.

He couldn't imagine, if Carter's marriage and pregnancy had been forced by Harold, that she had endured so much pain in life and couldn't even rest in peace after death.

Sarah glanced at Antonio, whose jaw was clenched so tightly that the muscles in his face were twitching as he struggled to control his emotions.

She held his arm, not knowing how to offer him more comfort.

"I hate him." Antonio's hoarse voice broke the silence, filled with deep sorrow.

Sarah's nose tingled, comforting, "If he really did this, he will pay for his actions."

Antonio closed his eyes, the swelling in his eyes easing a bit.

After a long while, he calmed down, put the urn back in the tomb chamber, and covered it with the slab.

He said coldly, "Let's go."

Seeing his usual expression, Sarah felt somewhat relieved.

They went to the security office at the entrance, and the caretaker greeted them with a smile, "Sir, are you leaving?"

"Yeah." Antonio glanced at him, acting like nothing had happened, and frowned, "The cemetery's a mess. Get someone to fix it right away! If this happens again, think about whether you can handle the consequences."

Then he sighed dramatically, "We're all just working for someone else. You wouldn't want Mr. Harrington to find out about this, right?"

The caretaker quickly nodded, "I'm glad you understand! Thank you for your understanding!"

Antonio snorted, "So, how are you gonna show your appreciation?"

The caretaker realized he was being asked for a favor, saying, "What... what do you want?"

Antonio snorted, "I'll cover for you this time, but if Mr. Harrington asks in the future, you should say that I'm diligent and often come to check on Mrs. Harrington's grave. Got it?"

The caretaker caught on quickly, "Got it! Don't worry!"

With that, Antonio walked away with his head held high.

This way, the caretaker would see him as an ally! As long as Harold didn't ask, the caretaker would never mention today's events. And honestly, Harold wouldn't care about a fake grave. This way, Antonio's visit today would stay under wraps.

In the car, he finally dropped his tough act, leaning heavily on the steering wheel and exhaling deeply.

But now wasn't the time to be down. They had to stay sharp, not only to deal with Harold's surveillance but also to dig into the secrets behind all this.

Sarah handed him a bottle of water. "Here, have some water."

She knew how much pressure Antonio was under.

Antonio took several big gulps and gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. I'm not that fragile."

Sarah kissed him, both as encouragement and support. "I know."

Antonio smiled gently, buckled his seatbelt, started the engine, and drove away.

They had just gotten back to the hotel when they got a call from Harold. Sarah worriedly asked, "Does he know we went to the cemetery?"

"No."

The caretaker wouldn't be dumb enough to tell Harold about this.

Antonio glanced at her and answered the call.

"Benjamin, something happened." Harold's first words made Antonio instinctively frown. "What happened?"

"Isabella attempted suicide!"

The words left both of them stunned.

Harold's tone was heavy, clearly blaming Antonio but unable to directly accuse him.

Harold added, "If you hadn't been so harsh on her, she wouldn't have done this. She's still alive, but she's in the ICU! The media is going nuts! I don't care how long you want to stay with your true love over there, but you need to come back right now!"

Antonio pinched his forehead, saying, "Alright, I understand."

After hanging up, they were silent for a long time.

Sarah didn't care much for Isabella, but she couldn't bear to know she had attempted suicide.

After all, she hadn't done anything to harm her, and Sarah couldn't help but feel a bit emotional.

Sarah reached out to smooth the frown on his forehead, asking, "Are you going back?"
