Chapter 38 Close, Extremely Dangerous
That night, Sarah was chillin' in a single armchair by the big ol' window, lost in her thoughts, when Harper bounced over.
"Mommy, I wanna hit up the hot springs," she said.
Harper jumped into Sarah's lap, wrapping her little arms around her and batting those big eyes. "C'mon, it's a rare chance! We can't miss out on the hot springs, right, Mommy?"
Sarah snapped out of her daze, totally charmed by Harper's cuteness. She grinned and gave Harper's nose a playful pinch. "You really know how to live it up. Alright, let's get changed and go."
They quickly swapped into their swimsuits and headed out to the yard.
They were crashing in the swankiest suite at the resort, with two floors and way more perks than your average family room. They even had an indoor hot spring pool, but Harper was all about the outdoor vibe and insisted on hitting the yard.
With Harper leading the way, they strolled through the yard, turned a corner, and came to a wall covered in greenery. The sight was straight-up stunning.
In the farthest corner of the yard, there was another pool.
Even though it was outside, one side had a high wall and the other was packed with dense greenery, giving it primo privacy. Besides the floor lamps, there was a ring of ground lights.
Under the soft glow, the hot spring water shimmered with a gentle golden hue, and with the mist rising up, it looked like something out of a fairy tale.
Harper looked up at Sarah, flashed a sly grin, and ran to hit a switch.
Next thing you know, tiny lights lit up on the green wall, twinkling like a galaxy. It was crazy beautiful.
Harper couldn't wait any longer and quickly slipped into the water, closing her eyes in bliss. "So comfy and warm, I love hot springs!"
Sarah chuckled and shook her head, stepping into the water too. The moment her skin touched the water, a wave of comfort spread from her feet to her head, and she leaned against the pool wall, totally content.
The day's stress and exhaustion had her feeling super worn out. Now, fully relaxed and surrounded by the beautiful scenery, she felt both her body and mind unwinding.
She got so relaxed that she dozed off while soaking.
Seeing this, Harper's eyes twinkled mischievously. She quietly climbed out of the water and took off.
She'd already scoped out the area; it was secluded, quiet, and had a killer vibe—perfect for a date!
Before long, Sarah's face started turning red as she slept, and her breathing got heavy.
She eventually woke up from the heat, realizing she'd fallen asleep. Each breath was humid, and her head felt dizzy, almost like she was out of air.
She sat up and looked around, but Harper was nowhere in sight.
Sarah was stunned. At this moment, there was no one around, it was dark and silent, and Harper must've run off somewhere!
She quickly stood up, about to go find Harper, when a tall figure appeared.
It was Antonio!
He strolled over in a bathrobe, his gaze deepening as he spotted Sarah in the water. He smirked and asked, "Were you waiting for me on purpose?"
Sarah was floored. What the heck was Antonio doing here?
Antonio shrugged off his bathrobe, stepped into the pool with those long legs of his, and started making his way toward a frozen Sarah.
The lighting made Antonio's chiseled features look even more perfect. His upper body was bare, showing off those rock-hard muscles. Any other woman would probably be drooling, but to Sarah, this was a red flag!
She watched him approach, backing up cautiously. "Mr. Valencia, what are you doing?"
Antonio's smile got wider, his lips parting slightly, his voice low and smooth. "You know exactly what I'm doing."
Sarah had set this whole thing up, waiting for him here, and now she was playing dumb?
Her act was kinda funny, though.
Sarah was wearing something more like a wetsuit, with sleeves down to her forearms, a high collar up to her collarbone, and pants down to her thighs. It covered most of her skin but still showed off her figure. Her skin looked even more delicate against the black swimsuit, and it was flushed from the heat.
Antonio gave her a once-over, making Sarah feel grossed out, but she was already backed up against the pool wall.
Antonio placed one hand on the wall, leaning in close, looking down at her. "Why is it always such a coincidence?"
Sarah fought the urge to roll her eyes, gritting her teeth as she explained, "Mr. Valencia, you've got it all wrong. Harper wanted to come to the hot springs, so I brought her here."
"Then where's Harper?" Antonio raised an eyebrow.
There was no sign of a third person here. Sarah should think about logic before making excuses.
Sarah was momentarily speechless!
She had no idea where Harper had gone.
She didn't want Antonio to think she was trying to seduce him, so she continued,"I dozed off and when I woke up, Harper was gone. I was going to search for her. Mr. Valencia, please step aside!"
She finished speaking and tried to make a run for it, not wanting to stay a second longer, but the ground was too slippery. She lost her footing and fell backward uncontrollably.
Sarah's eyes widened in terror, bracing herself for a painful fall.
But instead, she felt a tight grip around her waist and was pulled into Antonio's arms.
Antonio held her tightly, their bodies pressed together.
Right in front of her was Antonio's perfect collarbone, and below that, his firm chest rose and fell slightly. Sarah could clearly feel his breath seeping through her thin swimsuit, penetrating her skin.
Antonio held Sarah tightly in his arms amidst the steam surrounding them. He looked at Sarah's blushing face, her clear eyes reflecting the light, and her red lips looking irresistibly tempting. Anyone would be moved by such a sight.
Once Sarah regained her footing, she raised her hand to push him away, but Antonio's face suddenly came closer.
Antonio looked at her enticing lips and couldn't help but lower his head to kiss her.
