Chapter 538 He Wasn’t Her Antonio
Benjamin's voice rose at the end, distant and cold yet polite.
Onlookers whispered amongst themselves, speculating about the scene before them.
Could Sarah have mistaken this gentleman for someone from the esteemed Harrington family?
At that moment, Sarah was oblivious to those around her, lost in a dreamlike state, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.
Her throat moved as she attempted to call out to him, "An—"
"Ben, what's going on?"
But before the name "Antonio" could leave her lips, a pleasant female voice interjected.
Isabella approached, intimately linking her arm with that of Benjamin.
Only then did she notice Sarah's tear-streaked face, her hand still protectively over her belly, as if she needed Benjamin's support to stand.
With concern, she quickly asked, "Madam, do you feel unwell?"
Sarah's gaze softened as it drifted from the gentle expression on her face to the entwined arms of a couple wrapped in an intimate embrace.
What was their relationship?
Sarah found herself at a complete loss.
Just then, familiar faces from the gathering surrounded her, their concern also serving to dissipate the awkward tension.
"You okay, Ms. Miller? Mr. Harrington reacted so fast! We were still trying to process what happened!"
"Yes, quite!" others quickly chimed in.
"But, Ms. Miller, if you're feeling unwell, you should head straight to the hospital to check it out."
Sarah was startled as she latched onto these words, suddenly feeling hollow. She raised her gaze once more to the man in front of her.
'Benjamin Harrington… He isn't Antonio…'
Her eyes flickered, releasing Benjamin's arm as if awakening from a deep dream, stepping back while stifling the pain in her ankle. "I'm sorry... Thank you..."
Her words were a mess, reflecting the turmoil inside her.
It was unbelievable to her how two people in the world could look so alike. Apart from the scar at the corner of his eye, this gentleman from the prestigious Harrington family bore a striking resemblance to Antonio. Even his voice carried a similar lilt, eerily familiar.
Yet, if he truly were Antonio, how could he possibly become a Harrington? And he showed no sign of recognizing her.
'So... he isn't the one. Just one of the world's myriad coincidences.
'But why would this man appear in the capital now?
'Why…'
Her head throbbed, leaving her speechless.
Benjamin nodded slightly in acknowledgment of her thanks.
With that, the small commotion came to an end.
The crowd's attention drifted away from Sarah and onto Benjamin and his companion, speculating who the young lady from an influential family might be.
Still holding the microphone, the emcee caught sight of Benjamin and the stunningly beautiful Isabella. Remembering another piece of significant news yet to be announced, he raised the mic.
"On this wonderful occasion, Mr. Harrington has another exciting announcement to make!"
Benjamin stood poised, a wine glass in hand, his slender fingers caressing its rim delicately. His expression remained impassive and inscrutable, piquing the curiosity of everyone around him.
Eager faces turned toward him and then back to the emcee, wondering what the good news could be.
Sarah averted her eyes, forcing herself to stop glancing at the man and his striking companion.
The emcee skillfully held everyone in suspense, sensing their anticipation. He sprinkled in a few more remarks to lighten the mood before revealing the news with a smile.
"The exciting news I have for you all is... before long, Mr. Harrington and his fiancée, Miss Isabella Bennett, will be hosting their engagement party in the capital. We hope to see each and every one of you there!”
His announcement sent a ripple of surprise through the crowd; no one had anticipated such a major revelation at today's gathering.
Once the initial shock subsided, the room buzzed with congratulations and good wishes.
"Congratulations to Mr. Harrington and Miss Bennett, wishing you both a lifetime of happiness!"
"Absolutely... Mr. Harrington's success and youth, paired with Miss Bennett, they're a match made in heaven!"
"Thank you all for your warm wishes," Isabella responded, her cheeks tinted with a blush as she snuggled closer into the man's embrace. Her grip on his arm tightened, adding to her enchanting demeanor.
Benjamin carried an air of authority, natural to someone of his stature. His deep voice resonated as he raised his wine glass slightly. "We look forward to having you all there."
"Wouldn't miss it!"
The guests around them lifted their glasses in unison, toasting and drinking to the occasion.
Sarah remained impassive, the chatter around her seemingly washing over her unheard. Her mind was stuck on a loop, replaying the announcement.
'Benjamin and his fiancée, Isabella Bennett, are having an engagement party.
'They are... getting engaged.'
She dug her nails into her palm, trying to suppress the ache in her heart.
She reminded herself repeatedly, 'He isn't Antonio. He is Benjamin Harrington. They are unrelated.
'Benjamin has his own company and family, hailing from the esteemed HarringtonfFamily of Marshall City, with a loving fiancée to boot!
'He is not my Antonio.
'But why... Why does he look so much like him?!'
Sarah felt like she was suffocating, torn apart by contradictory emotions as if being split in two.
At that moment, the emcee invited Benjamin to speak on stage.
He adjusted his cuffs, pivoted on the balls of his feet, and his gaze, sweeping the room, landed on the distant figure beside him. His eyes rested on her slender wrist as he offhandedly complimented, "That's a unique bracelet."
The comment was delivered in his trademark magnetic tone, void of any discernible emotion.
