Chapter 106 Sarah, Why Did You Betray Me

So, back in the day, Sarah was still hitting the books in college, leaning on Brady for some backup.

Totally clueless about the real world, she figured she'd snag a part-time gig to stash some cash and bail from the home she couldn't stand, all to save up for Brady.

She heard bartending raked in decent dough, so she landed a part-time spot at a bar.

But in a place that wild, trouble was bound to pop up.

One night, during her shift, some wasted dude started messing with her and tried to get handsy. Nobody stepped in, so she fought like hell and bolted from the private room.

That same night, Antonio was chilling at the bar too.

Back then, he was just the second kid in the Valencia clan, and hitting up bars was his usual scene.

He was knocking back drinks with his crew, but unlike them, he kept his cool. Before he got too hammered, he decided to bounce.

Just as he hit the corner of the bar's hallway, a tiny figure crashed into him.

At first, he was ticked, thinking someone was trying to hit on him, but then he saw Sarah, all flustered and apologizing, "Sorry, I... I didn't mean to!"

Hearing the sob in her voice, Antonio felt something weird, and the next second, Sarah looked up.

When he saw her eyes, his heart did a little flip.

Sarah's eyes were all clear and innocent, totally out of place in that crazy scene. The tears in her eyes sparkled under the dim lights, like a scared little deer, making him feel all protective.

For the first time, he found himself staring at a stranger, lost in thought.

Before that night, he never thought he'd fall for someone at first sight.

A noise came from down the hall, and Sarah's shoulders shook as she looked around, desperate for a place to hide.

Finally, she bit her lip and begged Antonio, "Please help me, and I will repay you!"

Just as she finished, the creep who tried to assault her and the bar owner came chasing after her.

Antonio got the gist of it right away.

He wasn't the type to get involved, but his body moved on its own, stepping forward to shield the trembling Sarah and keep her safe.

The guys, all tough at first, recognized him and backed off, apologizing like crazy and running off.

Just like that, Sarah dodged a bullet and got curious about Antonio. Why was the bar owner so scared of him? Who was this guy?

Antonio turned to the still-shaken Sarah, looking into her clear eyes, and said in a low voice, "You said you'd repay me?"

Sarah blinked and nodded seriously, "Yeah, I keep my word. You saved me just now, and I'll definitely repay you."

Antonio asked, "Alright, then first tell me, what's your name?"

She answered, "Sarah."

He locked the name in his memory, then casually adjusted his suit. "This place isn't for you. I'll get you out of here."

Listening to him, Sarah didn't know why she trusted Antonio so much; maybe it was just fate.

From that day on, their story kicked off.

Fast forward to now, Antonio's eyes were dark with emotion.

He looked at the sleeping Sarah and murmured, "Weren't we happy at the start? Wasn't everything perfect? Why did you do it? Why did you betray me?"

Meanwhile, a pair of bright eyes were peeping through the crack of the door, taking in everything happening inside.

Harper had hit the sack but woke up in the middle of the night, worried 'cause Sarah hadn't come home yet.

She rubbed her eyes and got up, hearing some noise. As she passed by Antonio's room, she noticed a sliver of light under the door. She crouched down and peeked through the crack.

Seeing the tender scene, Harper couldn't help but tear up.

She quickly covered her mouth to avoid making any noise that might disturb the folks inside. Then she suddenly remembered something and hurriedly took out her phone to record the heartwarming moment.

It seemed like the day their family of five would reunite was coming soon.

Harper cried and laughed, not noticing the small figure behind her.

Yep, behind her, Ryan was puzzled. 'Why is Harper crying? But she seems happy.'

A few minutes earlier, Ryan had planned to go downstairs for water but saw Harper crouching outside Antonio's room. Although he didn't know why she was spying, he wanted to keep her company, so he crouched behind her.

Seeing Harper cry, he quickly ran back to his room to grab some tissues.

Harper, lost in her emotions, was startled when a tissue suddenly appeared in front of her.

She turned around to see Ryan tilting his head, looking at her.

His short hair was a bit messy, and his pale face showed confusion and concern.

Harper frowned, feeling not grateful but angry, glaring at him. Who needed his fake kindness!

After what happened during the day, Harper had learned her lesson and decided to be wary of Ryan.

After all, he was Lisa's son and good at pretending to be pitiful, causing her to be scolded by Antonio.

Harper's good mood was ruined. She angrily pushed Ryan's hand away, bravely wiped her tears with the sleeve of her pajamas, and got up to return to her room.

She left decisively, without looking back, missing the sadness in Ryan's eyes as he watched her leave, lowering his head in sorrow.

After locking the door in one swift motion, Harper climbed back into bed, hugging her teddy bear and thinking, 'It won't be long before we reunite!'

"If Antonio had just apologized to Mommy properly earlier, everything would have been fine. Why keep a cold face all the time and argue with Sarah? In the end, I still have to help. I'm so smart, recording the video. I'll find a time to show it to Sarah, and she'll be so moved she'll forgive Antonio immediately!" Harper happily hugged her teddy bear, swaying back and forth, talking to herself for a while, then suddenly thought of something, her big eyes lighting up.

"Brian is awake now; I'll send it to him first!"

She could share it with Brian, but she didn't dare show it to Ethan, knowing he had a big grudge against Antonio.

So she planned to get Brian on her side first, then the siblings could persuade Ethan together.

Once again, marveling at her cleverness, Harper was too excited to sleep. She quickly sent the video to Brian, who was abroad, adding a message: [Brian, tell me, doesn't Dad love Mom very much?]

At that moment, Brian, having breakfast, saw the video Harper sent and his eyes lit up instantly.

This was what he had been waiting for!
