Chapter 636 Infinite Affection
She immediately remarked, "Thank you!"
Sarah quickly withdrew her hand as if she had been shocked. As she sat back, she moved a bit further away, as if that was the only way to stay within her safe zone.
Benjamin noticed her evasive action and slightly moved. However, the soft sensation from where she had touched his fingers seemed to linger.
The two of them didn't speak for the rest of the journey. The driver, noticing their out-of-town accents, occasionally made small talk, which helped ease the awkwardness in the car.
Finally, they arrived at the hotel. Sarah secretly relaxed and said, "Mr. Harrington, thank you for tonight. You should get some rest. I'll head back now."
Sincerely and gratefully.
Benjamin looked at her for a moment, inexplicably smirked, saying, "Ms. Miller, since you brought me back, why don't you come up for a bit?"
"No, thanks," Sarah forced a couple of dry laughs and waved her hand dismissively, and said, "Mr. Harrington, you should rest well. I won't disturb you."
Benjamin didn't say anything, opened the car door, and got out. As soon as he closed the door, the car sped off like lightning.
It was obvious to anyone that the person in the car was eager to distance themselves from him, afraid that if they stayed a second longer, he might catch up.
Benjamin watched the car's exhaust disappear, laughing in exasperation.
Sarah really didn't know how to be grateful.
But he didn't have time to argue with Sarah now. Thinking about the NovaCore Chip inside his shoulder, a strange look flashed in Benjamin's eyes as he turned and strode into the hotel.
Once upstairs, he couldn't wait to unbutton his shirt and walked to the vanity mirror in the bathroom.
The bright light allowed him to clearly see the scar on his shoulder in the mirror.
Still hideous and terrifying, impossible to look at directly.
He vividly remembered when Harold and the doctor explained that the scar was from the car accident, where debris had pierced his skin, and surgery was needed to remove the fragments.
Now it seemed it might not have been because of the car accident.
Benjamin doubted the car accident from a few months ago, and for the first time, he doubted Harold.
His fingers traced the shocking scar on his shoulder, his expression gradually becoming gloomy, and a layer of dark mist slowly covered his deep eyes.
If there was another truth, what could it be?
What was Harold's purpose in doing all this?
Benjamin looked at himself in the mirror, trying hard to recall memories before the car accident, but it was all blank, with no progress at all.
He really hated this feeling of helplessness.
He walked out of the bathroom and sat on the sofa, feeling restless with a slight frown that seemed like a knot.
After much thought, he decided he should take the initiative to call Harold.
If the NovaCore Chip was indeed in his shoulder, and Harold truly intended to monitor him.
In that case, he had to take action immediately.
Benjamin exhaled heavily, making up his mind.
He turned his head, picked up the phone beside him, and dialed without hesitation.
On the other end, Harold seemed busy with something and took a while to answer. His voice was as loving as ever, and greeted, "Benjamin, still not resting this late?"
Benjamin calmly asked, "Dad, did I disturb you?"
"Of course not," Harold chuckled, saying, "The housekeeper just made some dishes, and they were quite good. I'll have her make them for you next time you come back, "
Benjamin's fingers lightly tapped the edge of the sofa, rhythmically.
"Dad, you work so hard and still think of me," he said, his tone as obedient and respectful as ever, as if casually chatting about family matters, but his face was dark and brooding.
"Actually, I had a little accident today and got hurt. Maybe next time I come back, you can have the housekeeper cook for me."
Harold paused for a moment, then asked worriedly, "You got hurt?"
Benjamin assured him, "Don't worry, it's not serious."
Harold gently chided, "Good to hear it's not serious. You need to be more careful out there and your body still needs to recover."
Benjamin responded, a quick flash of light passing through his deep eyes. He pretended to be angry and said, "But something else unpleasant happened. When the doctor was examining me, he said there was a small piece of metal in my back."
Harold exclaimed in surprise, "What?!"
Harold suddenly sat up from the sofa, his grip on the phone tightening. Realizing his reaction was too intense, he calmed down before saying, "They must have made a mistake!"
"I wish it were a mistake!" Benjamin deliberately snorted angrily and sneered, "It seems the doctors who operated on me before were useless, not even knowing they left fragments behind!"
He was always blunt, so it was normal for him to curse like that.
Harold secretly breathed a sigh of relief and sat back down on the sofa.
He knew his son well.
Given his current reaction, it was clear he hadn't discovered anything. Harold decided to go along with it, saying, "You were seriously injured at the time. They probably just made a mistake."
"Their mistake left a piece of debris in my body!" Benjamin said expressionlessly, "Now I have to undergo another surgery to remove it!"
Harold yelled anxiously, "You can't have surgery!"
Harold immediately panicked, then quickly explained, "I mean, the doctors said your body needs at least a year to fully recover. It's only been a few months. You can't handle another surgery right now. Besides, you haven't noticed the fragment for months, so it probably doesn't affect your body much."
Harold persuaded, "Let's wait a while before considering surgery. When the time comes, I'll arrange for the best doctors. How about that?"
Though his words were caring, his tone left no room for refusal.
Benjamin's lips curled into a mocking smile, and said, "Alright, thanks, Dad."
They chatted a bit more before hanging up.
Benjamin lowered his head, a storm brewing in his eyes.
From the conversation, he could almost confirm that Harold had indeed implanted the chip in his body!
On the other end, after hanging up, Harold also took a long time to recover. He turned to look at the inky night outside the window, his eyes darkening.
This matter had been discovered so quickly!
Fortunately, Benjamin hadn't noticed anything unusual yet.
But Harold couldn't afford to relax. With his son's deep and thoughtful nature, any further anomalies would surely arouse suspicion.
By then, everything would be exposed!
Harold closed his eyes and exhaled deeply, then headed towards the entrance to the basement.
The Harrington family estate was located on a remote hillside, frequently visited by guests each year. However, no one knew that the Harringtons had a secret room in the basement, a place even the servants dared not enter.
The room was filled with photos, all featuring the same woman.
Harold opened the wooden door, making a creaking sound.
He instinctively glanced behind him, ensuring no one was following, then carefully closed the door and walked in slowly step by step.
He had personally cleaned this room for years, it remained spotless even after two decades.
Just like when she was still there.
Harold's slightly trembling hand gently touched everything in the room, finally resting on the photos, his eyes welling up with tears.
He emotionally uttered, "Janet Carter!"
The low call to the name was filled with infinite affection.
