Chapter 535 Antonio, I'm Heading Out Now
Sarah turned with a smile and sat down on the couch, quickly answering the call.
"Hey, sweetheart."
"Mommy."
His voice, crisp yet steady, came through the phone, and she missed him terribly. "Is it morning where you are? Why are you calling me at this time?"
Brian was currently abroad, with a significant time difference of about ten or so hours.
"Yeah, I'm already up."
The seriousness in the little boy's voice made him sound mature. "I just wanted to let you know that Uncle Brady's condition has stabilized a lot, so you don't need to worry."
"Really?" Sarah couldn't contain her excitement. "What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor did another checkup on Uncle Brady last night and said that as long as we keep things stable, there's a chance he could wake up within two months. They also mentioned that once things are arranged, we can come back home for recovery!"
"That's wonderful!"
Sarah had been so fixated on going abroad to be with Brady that she had even caused a rift between herself and Antonio.
Unexpectedly, Antonio had had an accident...
With the weight of the company and family suddenly resting on Sarah's shoulders, she couldn't leave the country.
Luckily, she could count on Brian to be with Brady overseas, providing a bit of solace.
Now, hearing this news, Sarah was overwhelmed with emotion. After enduring relentless pressure for so long, a glimmer of hope finally emerged, nearly bringing her to tears.
"When the time comes, I'll come to pick you guys up, and when your uncle gets better, we can all be together again."
After saying this, both Sarah and Brian fell silent for a moment.
They both knew—there would never be a complete reunion—one was missing.
"Okay, Mommy." Brian pretended not to understand, "Uncle Brady will be so happy if the first person he sees when he wakes up is you."
Sarah nodded, realizing too late that he couldn't see it, so she added, "Yeah, I'll be waiting for your return."
Mother and son exchanged a few more words of concern.
"Now you go have breakfast, sweetie. I’ve got a gala to get ready for soon. I’m still picking out my dress and need to get ready."
"Alright, bye Mommy."
"Take care, baby."
Sarah's mind wandered, her cell phone slipping from her grasp. Unnoticed, the sourness at the tip of her nose and the redness in her eyes were growing.
'Yeah... Even if my brother returns, things can never be perfect again.'
Deep down, Sarah always felt that Antonio was still alive.
How could a man so strong just disappear without a trace from this world?
She remembered how she and Antonio had fallen off a cliff while being pursued by the ruthless Valencia family,. Antonio had narrowly escaped death then.
A man of his stature, alive or dead, should have left some sign.
He and Serene had both fallen from that cliff in an explosion. Serene had been found, but not Antonio.
And somehow, Serene had survived!
Her lower body was shattered, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down, and her right arm was lost. She had become the very image of helplessness she had once feigned.
Perhaps this was divine retribution in its cruel longevity.
But this only reinforced Sarah's belief: if Serene could live, then so could Antonio.
Now, her brother was going to be back.
Sarah would have more energy to devote to finding Antonio if her brother awoke.
Even if it was just his body, she was determined to find him.
The grip on her phone tightened, her delicate knuckles whitening until she finally relaxed her hold, drained of strength.
With a heavy sigh, she suddenly remembered something and flicked on the calendar app on her phone.
It would be time for Serene's death sentence in just a few days.
Sarah wouldn't let Serene off easily, not after all the evils she had done.
Impossible!
She had had James move Serene into an old, nondescript house and stopped all her medications. Soon enough, Serene's wounds deteriorated, causing her agonizing pain daily.
She existed in a ghastly state, mad with suffering.
At that time, Sarah could have killed her with her bare hands!
Serene's very survival felt like an injustice, but her torment seemed deserved.
Why should she live a comfortable life after causing so much misery while Antonio's fate remained unknown, his whereabouts a mystery?
Sarah had been visiting her daily, watching her writhing on the bed like larvae and begging for mercy or for death. She lived like a rat in the gutter.
But in the end, she had had to hand her over to the police.
It wasn't long before the court sentenced Serene to death.
The woman was caged in a cell, living a life worse than death, discarded like trash.
However, for Sarah, this was far from sufficient. Her hatred for Serene couldn't be quelled so easily, even with the looming death sentence. Sarah even wished she could personally end Serene's life.
At some point, Sarah's eyes were riddled with red veins as a wave of intense hatred coursed through her veins, stirring up painful memories that flooded her mind.
Sarah closed her eyes, striving to calm herself. She needed to exercise restraint. Making a mistake or acting foolishly was not an option; her brother would awaken shortly, and she still had to locate Antonio...
Sarah took several deep breaths to calm herself before rising and heading towards the walk-in closet. Her mission: to find the perfect dress for tonight's event.
Her collection of gowns was extensive, yet her gaze eventually settled on a well-preserved starry dress tucked away in the corner.
That was from... Antonio
Sarah gently took down the gown. The moment she touched it, she felt as if she was transported back to the time when he gave it to her.
"Why are you giving me so many dresses? I don't go to galas every day."
"It doesn't matter whether you go to galas or not." Antonio wrapped his arms around her from behind, his voice warm and stirring, "I just want to give you all the best things in the world."
Remembering this moment brought a slight smile to Sarah's lips.
The dress was a unique creation handcrafted by a world-renowned designer, fetching an astonishing price at the launch auction.
Antonio had truly put his heart into collecting the world's finest things, all for her.
If only... he were here.
Sarah's smile turned bittersweet, but she quickly gathered her emotions and dressed in the gown. A simple touch of makeup revitalized her delicate features.
"You're truly beautiful. Wait till you see when I get back," she whispered to her reflection in the mirror, her soft voice as if conversing with someone absent.
She then reached into her jewelry box and put on that most important bracelet.
"Antonio, I'm heading out now."
'Wearing the dress you gave me.'
