Chapter 821 Preparing for Pregnancy

"I volunteered."

Sofia's smile carried a hint of sadness. "After all, my parents gave me life. I really can't turn a blind eye. Maybe I was too naive before, chasing freedom and true love. Perhaps I was born to contribute to the Harris family; that might be my mission."

Moreover, her father, Stanley Harris, was already hospitalized and had just stabilized.

If sacrificing her marriage could save everything, wouldn't that be a good thing?

Seeing that Sarah wanted to say something, she changed the subject. "Sarah, since you're here, you must attend my wedding tomorrow. I'll be happier with you there."

Sarah looked at her smile, which didn't reach her eyes, and felt even more heartbroken.

Getting married so hastily, could Sofia be happy?

"Sofia, have you really thought this through?" Sarah asked.

"Yes." Sofia's tone was firm. "You'll understand me. Even if you don't, you'll support me, right, Sarah?"

Sarah could understand her feelings, but...

"Of course, I'll support you, but I hope you can be happy, not sacrifice your whole life for interests. Let's think of another way together, okay?"

Sofia pressed her lips together. "Sarah, you don't need to persuade me. My mind is made up."

"What about Alex?" She genuinely felt it was a pity. "You clearly love him, right? And he loves you too. You two..."

"Sarah!" Sofia interrupted her.

Just hearing that name made her heart ache as if it had seeped into her blood, almost suffocating her.

After a while, she said, "Maybe it's fate that we can't be together."

In this lifetime, they couldn't be together.

Sofia told herself in her heart, having finally made up her mind to leave, not to have any thoughts of turning back.

Alex would find someone better after leaving her, and he would be happy.

"And we had many problems. We often argued before; you know that." She tried to make her tone sound relaxed. "Even without this, we might not have made it to the end."

Sarah knew she was speaking against her heart.

She knew about Sofia's family situation and understood her difficulties.

"Do you know? When he saw the letter you left, he looked like a walking corpse. That was the first time I saw Alex like that." Sarah held her hand, her voice soft. "Sofia, I know your decision is well thought out, but I hope you understand, whether it's Alex or Virgil, you should be with someone who makes you happy. A lifetime is really long."

Especially in such family alliances. If something changed later, ending it wouldn't be easy.

Sofia's eyes flickered slightly, seemingly touched. "I..."

Just as she spoke, a male voice suddenly came from the door. "Sofia."

The three of them turned around, only to see the door open. Virgil, in a silver suit, stood at the door, looking quite elegant.

He had a gentle smile on his face. "Mr. Harrington, Ms. Miller, may I come in?"

"Please come in." Antonio glanced worriedly at the two women beside him, straightened his suit, and stood up. "Mr. Newman, busy as you are, it's rare to see you."

Virgil pretended not to hear the sarcasm in his words, walked in with a gentle expression, and his gaze fell on Sofia's tear-streaked face. "Of course, you two are esteemed guests. And it's late; I wanted to see my fiancée."

Antonio chuckled ambiguously and invited him to sit down.

Sarah looked at Virgil with increasing displeasure, but since he was already there, she couldn't just take Sofia away in front of him.

She felt Sofia's grip on her hand tighten and took a deep breath.

"Mr. Newman, you adapt quickly." Sarah mocked.

Virgil raised an eyebrow. "Why do you say that, Ms. Miller?"

"The last time we met, I could tell you and Sofia had no feelings for each other. Now you can easily call Sofia your fiancée."

Sarah looked at him meaningfully. "Mr. Newman, as a businessman, you've seen more than I have. Aren't you worried about an unhappy marriage after the alliance?"

Without feelings, Sofia would have a much higher chance of backing out of the alliance.

"Ms. Miller, aren't you being a bit one-sided?" Virgil spread his hands and smiled. "But you have a point. However, you seem to misunderstand me. My relationship with Sofia is not just a business alliance. I like her very much, and I believe feelings can be cultivated. So, Ms. Miller, you can rest assured, that I will treat Sofia well."

This was the truth.

Before the Harris family had any trouble, he had met Sofia once. He was indeed interested in her, but it didn't work out, and he regretted it for a long time.

But now, Sofia still ended up with him, and she could only belong to him in the end.

Feeling Virgil's deep gaze, Sofia forced a smile and looked up. "Yes, Sarah, once we get married and live together every day, our feelings will definitely grow."

Seeing their cooperation, Sarah couldn't say much for now and looked helplessly at Antonio.

Virgil suddenly said cheerfully, "Ms. Miller, since you've come a long way and are Sofia's best friend, why not join us for dinner?"

He then looked at Antonio. "We should properly entertain you, Mr. Harrington."

Sarah agreed without hesitation.

But when they arrived, she found out that by "we," Virgil meant the Harris family and the Newman family.

Around the table, Virgil's father, Curtis Newman, and the recently discharged Stanley sat together, greeting them politely. "I didn't expect Mr. Harrington and Ms. Miller to come for Virgil's wedding. It's truly an honor for the Newman family!"

The Harrington family's status was well-known even in the North, not to mention Sarah, who was also a remarkable figure in Capital City.

Curtis had previously thought marrying Sofia was a losing deal, but it didn't seem so bad.

Antonio looked at his cunning face and smiled. "Mr. Newman, you're too kind. Sofia is my wife's best friend. We wouldn't ignore her wedding."

The implication was that if she didn't have a good life, they wouldn't ignore it either.

"Rest assured." This time, it was Virgil's mother, Pamela Adams, who spoke.

Sofia sat beside her, and Pamela warmly held her hand, showing a very close attitude. "Sofia marrying into our family, we will definitely treat her like our own daughter. I've liked Sofia since she was little, and I'm finally seeing her become part of our family."

Sofia smiled, but no matter how one looked at it, her expression seemed like a mask, making people feel uncomfortable.

Susan was in a good mood, smiling so much that her crow's feet showed. "Yes, Virgil and Sofia have been close since childhood and grew up together. It was only a matter of time before they got together."

The most important thing was that their union could solve the Harris family's crisis.

Sarah agreed, but her eyes showed a hint of worry as she looked at Sofia.

Pamela patted Sofia's hand earnestly, as if suddenly emotional. "Tomorrow is your wedding day with Virgil. After you get married, you won't have to work hard outside anymore. Just stay home and prepare for pregnancy. Leave the company's matters to the men!"
