Chapter 368 He Won't Be Wrong about Anything Regarding Sarah
A few hours earlier…
After the press conference ended last night, everyone left one after another. As an important guest, Antonio naturally stayed behind to chat with the event organizers for a while.
Unexpectedly, when he went out, he saw Serene anxiously pacing in front of the door. Out of courtesy and also because Serene had already looked towards him, Antonio had no choice but to greet her.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"I don't know when my tire got punctured, and it's too late to call a mechanic. This place is also remote, and I don't know how to get back to the hotel," Serene said with a pitiful look but didn't mention wanting to travel with Antonio.
The organizers thought they had a very good relationship, so one of them said, "Mr. Valencia, you're staying at the same hotel. Why don't you go back together? Don't worry about the car. I'll have it sent back after it's fixed."
Antonio had intended to have his assistant call another car for Serene, considering they were currently partners in the public eye. If he didn't offer assistance, it would seem impolite. However, since the organizers had already spoken, Antonio couldn't refuse and purposely avoided suspicion.
Thus, the two had no choice but to ride back to the hotel in the same car.
Unexpectedly, a sudden heavy rain began along their route, catching them off guard. The driver, unfamiliar with the road conditions, lost control of the car, causing it to flip over.
Antonio was initially seated in the back passenger seat. However, when the car flipped, Serene shielded him, resulting in her getting pinned beneath the car and sustaining leg injuries.
Antonio was unharmed, only suffering a mild concussion from the impact.
Recalling what happened last night, Antonio felt unlucky. Although the car had flipped, its performance held up, and the driver's response was commendable, sparing him from serious injuries.
Had Serene not lunged toward him, upsetting the car's balance, it wouldn't have flipped so dramatically.
…
Antonio had already sobered up last night. While looking at the blurry white surroundings and the boundless darkness outside the window, his heart filled with bitterness.
He had been trying to call Sarah repeatedly last night but couldn't reach her, no matter what he tried. He was fully aware that Sarah hadn't taken him off her blacklist.
Antonio felt bitter, and his heart was full of grievances. There had never been a time when he wanted Sarah to be by his side more than now. It wasn't about wanting her to take care of him; it was just about wanting to see her so that he could feel at ease.
"Miss, your wound is not serious, so don't worry. Medical technology nowadays is very advanced, and it won't leave any scars," the doctor reassured Serene after examining her wound.
He then glanced at the food on the bedside table and couldn't help but tease, "The two of you have such a good relationship. You've gotten injured like this and still come to take care of your boyfriend."
Serene smiled shyly, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.
At that moment, Antonio was at a loss for words, but his heart was warmed by her gesture.
However, Antonio suddenly snapped out of it, his expression becoming unfriendly and his tone colder. "Don't talk nonsense. This young lady is just my work partner. My wife is waiting for me at home."
It was as if bucket of cold water was poured directly over Serene, instantly making her feel extremely awkward. She gripped the wheelchair tightly, causing her fingertips to turn slightly pale from exertion.
Even the doctor felt a bit embarrassed. Who could have expected a work partner to be so attentive and devoted? It seemed like Seren was just thinking wishfully...
The doctor glanced sympathetically at Serene. "I'm really sorry. I'll leave now. If you need to know anything about the patient's condition, feel free to call me anytime."
Antonio had actually mentioned his wife straightforwardly. It was truly pitiful for Serene to be so deluded.
Serene clenched her teeth tightly and could only swallow all her anger.
"If Ms. Jerrett is fine, then you should go back to the ward to rest. I need to take care of myself." Seeing that Serene was still lingering here, Antonio didn't hesitate to ask her to leave.
Serene snapped back to her senses. "Alright, I won't disturb you then. Remember to have your meal, or it won't be good for your health."
"I know, thank you."
Faced with Antonio's cold and biting words, Serene could only leave awkwardly.
Listening to the sound of the door closing, Antonio lay back down on the bed.
As Antonio dwelled on it further, he grew increasingly certain that the voice he had heard belonged to Sarah. It wasn't a trick of the mind; he trusted his instincts about anything involving her.
With this realization, Antonio abruptly sat upright in bed, exerting too much force and nearly fainting. After composing himself, he hurried out.
