Chapter 306 Antonio, the Cunning Fox

In the grand scheme of things, whether it was the unspeakable films of the present or the irretrievable moments of yesteryears, Antonio and Sarah found solace in the fact that they still had each other. After bidding adieu to the young couple they had spent the day with, they felt a certain fatigue creeping in. Hand in hand, they exited the bustling shopping mall, their attention drawn to an elderly woman peddling flowers by the roadside.

With a tender smile, Antonio approached the flower vendor, purchasing all her remaining blossoms. He meticulously arranged them into a bouquet and presented it to Sarah. Her eyes sparkled with joy as she accepted the flowers, urging him, "Let's hurry home. Harper must be anxious."

With that, she hastened to their car, leaving Antonio to follow. He couldn't help but feel a sense of gratification at her feigned impatience. Quickening his pace, he reached the car and leaned over to plant a kiss on her cheek.

They returned home amidst laughter and playful banter. As they neared their doorstep, Sarah contemplated hiding the bouquet from Harper. However, before they could even unlock the door, Harper came rushing out.

Observing the commotion from upstairs, Harper had heard the familiar sound of their car and quickly instructed Brian to hide.

"Daddy! Mommy! Weren't you supposed to work overtime tonight?" Harper questioned, her eyes scrutinizing her parents.

The bouquet in Sarah's hand was a dead giveaway. Who would bring flowers home after working overtime?

"Yeah, Mommy, you weren't really working overtime tonight, were you?" Ethan chimed in, squinting his eyes at Antonio but remaining silent.

Feeling a tad embarrassed, Antonio ruffled Ethan's hair. He couldn't help but notice that his son seemed less hostile than he had been a few days prior. To his surprise, Ethan didn't dodge his affectionate gesture.

"Daddy, you're even laughing! You've teamed up with Mommy to trick me! Hmph! I won't talk to you anymore." Harper crossed her arms and turned her head away, letting out a cold snort.

This little girl certainly knew how to use her charm to assert herself.

"Harper, Daddy made a mistake. Forgive Daddy this once, okay?" Antonio pleaded, squatting down to hug his daughter in an attempt to pacify her.

Feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over her, Sarah addressed the children, "Daddy and Mommy took a little break today. Forgive us, okay? We won't lie to you anymore."

Harper pouted, responding, "If you want to go on a date, just say so. We're not unreasonable kids. Of course, I support Daddy and Mommy going on a date."

Unbeknownst to Antonio and Sarah, their entire interaction was being broadcast to Brian upstairs through a miniature surveillance camera hidden in Harper's clothes.

‘Antonio has definitely bewitched Mommy!’ Brian thought to himself, filled with righteous indignation. However, his feelings did not affect the atmosphere downstairs.

Despite Antonio and Sarah's repeated apologies and pleas for forgiveness, the children remained unyielding.

"Dad... Promise me, Dad won't deceive Harper again, okay?" Antonio gently swung Harper's hand as he spoke, his voice filled with sincerity.

Harper was usually the closest to him, her presence akin to a comforting little cotton jacket. If she were genuinely upset with him over this incident, his guilt would be immense.

Sarah whispered to Ethan, "Mommy knows you all were worried about us. Can you forgive Mommy this time? I admit that we were being naughty, but from now on, we'll always tell you the truth about where we're going."

Ethan wasn't truly angry, but he felt compelled to stay silent due to the imposing presence of his older brother upstairs.

Meanwhile, Harper struggled to suppress her laughter. She had always been supportive of her parents being together. Knowing that they hadn't been working late but had instead gone on a date filled her with joy. However, she also knew that lying came with consequences.

"In that case, I want to drink ice-cold cola."

"Sure, but not at night."

"I also want the newly released limited edition dress."

"We'll buy it, and in every color."

"And I want you to make the creamy mushroom soup that you used to make for me. It's been so long."

"Okay, Dad will make whatever you want to eat."

...

After Antonio agreed to Harper's series of requests, she finally broke into a smile. Seeing this, Ethan also relaxed.

"Ethan, is there anything you like? Dad will buy it for you tomorrow," Antonio offered, extending a hand to hold Ethan's.

"I don't need anything. Just buy more things for little sister," Ethan replied, avoiding Antonio's gaze.

"In that case, Mommy and I will pick something, and if you don't like it, we will exchange it," Sarah suggested, playfully pinching Ethan's nose. She understood her son's thoughts well, always considering many things.

Finally, with the two children pacified, Antonio and Sarah let out a sigh of relief.

That night, they experienced the sweetness of teenage romance and the joy of parenthood. Only they could truly understand this feeling.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Brian watched his mother and Antonio exchange smiles on the monitor and pursed his lips in frustration.

"This cunning fox has definitely charmed my mom!" Brian grumbled.

Antonio, the cunning fox, sneezed.
