Chapter 512 It's Over...
The person who had called Serene was the same one who had just provided Antonio with the list of people from the day of the avalanche.
After being recognized by Kevin Jerrett due to the bracelet she found, Serene's life became more and more carefree each day. She had come to believe that her fortune changed after finding the bracelet at Galon Snow Peak. Even the usually skeptical Serene considered the ski resort her lucky charm, and she had been donating to it ever since, giving a considerable sum each year.
The person in charge thought it was just a kind gesture from a former employee and didn't think much of it, and over time, they had become casual acquaintances.
Upon hearing what the other party said, Serene was taken aback, "What did you say? Someone asked about the avalanche? Who was it?! Did you tell them?"
"Yes, it was Mr. Valencia from Valencia Inc. He was trapped in the snow back then too. He asked for the list, so of course, I gave it to him."
A chill ran down Serene's spine. Why would Antonio suddenly show interest in the events of that day... Had he discovered something?! Serene's eyes immediately became alert, and she questioned him further, "Did he say anything else?"
"No, he just asked for the list. Miss Jerrett, is there a problem?"
Serene didn't answer and immediately hung up the phone.
“It's over!” These words popped into Serene’s mind immediately after hanging up the phone.
Antonio asking for the list meant that her lies must have been exposed!
Her name was on the list that day, so she knew Sarah's name must be there too!
Whether it was guilt or something else, Serene suddenly remembered the two insurance assessors who were at her house.
The more she thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed!
An employee of an insurance company wouldn't be wearing a limited-edition luxury watch!
Serene always kept an eye out for these luxury items, but she didn't give it much thought at the time due to her irritation. Moreover, the figures of those two people were very similar to Antonio and Sarah.
Serene became very restless. She threw all caution to the wind and decided to lay low for a while. She quickly made a call to arrange for a private jet to leave.
She had to escape quickly before Antonio found her. Otherwise, she would be utterly destroyed by him!
"Miss Jerrett, your account has currently been frozen, and the company's funds are also immovable."
"What?" Serene stiffened and cold sweat poured down her body.
It was Antonio! It must be Antonio trying to restrict her actions.
Serene didn't have time to think too much. She quickly gathered some available valuables in her house, changed into the clothes she had worn to the hospital, grabbed some convenient and inconspicuous jewelry, and left quickly.
She didn't dare take public transportation like airplanes or high-speed trains, nor did she dare drive her own car, as it would be easier to track her.
Serene could only resort to anonymous coach buses, no matter what she had to get out of the city as soon as possible.
These buses usually went to nearby small towns, not big cities or transportation hubs. But Serene didn't care about that at this point. No matter what method, she just wanted to escape immediately!
Even so, when the coach bus reached the outskirts of the city, it was stopped!
Several police cars with their lights on were searching every vehicle.
Serene's heart pounded like a drum. Had Antonio arranged this search? He had the power to do so!
While the coach bus was lining up, Serene made an excuse to get off and slipped away into the roadside weeds.
Serene didn’t forget to take her luggage with her, which was mostly just heavy jewelry. Having lived a pampered life, she was already out of breath from the weight.
She didn't know how long she had been walking in the wilderness. As it slowly got dark, Serene's feet were blistered, and she had to stop to find a place to rest. Various vehicles kept shuttling on the nearby highway.
Suddenly, Serene heard a siren again, which scared her into lying directly in the grass, using the weed pile to hide herself.
That police car must be here to arrest her!
Serene lay on the ground, next to a stinky ditch. If she actually looked closely, there was excrement from wild dogs and cats, which was utterly disgusting.
When she first lay down, she was in a hurry and her hand directly pressed into it. The combined touch and smell almost made Serene sick, but the police car was still patrolling, and Serene didn't dare to move.
Her face was in contact with the ground, and she cursed Sarah fiercely. "Sarah, all of this is thanks to you. Sooner or later, I will make you pay for it!"
Inside the hospital, Sarah had just put Kevin to bed.
The doctor said Kevin's condition had improved significantly but because they didn't know exactly how much of the drug had entered his system, he still needed to recover gradually. This situation was already the best outcome among the worst circumstances. Sarah believed that one day, Kevin would regain his sanity and recognize his true self.
At this moment, Antonio walked over quietly and asked softly, "Sarah, is Dad asleep?"
Sarah turned her head away without looking at him, "What is it?"
"Come out for a moment. There's something about Serene I need to tell you."
Upon hearing Serene's name, a cold glint of hatred flashed in Sarah’s eyes.
The two of them left the ward, and Antonio handed Sarah the recovered recording from Victor Edwards' phone.
Antonio looked at Sarah very seriously, his sharp features more stern than they had ever been before. "Now it's confirmed that Serene was the person who instructed Victor Edwards. Sarah, there's no evidence yet of her orchestrating Brody's fall and Dad’s drugging, but with this, we can at least apprehend Serene. We shouldn't delay; let's go over there now."
Sarah agreed as well. Serene was too vigilant; they needed to hurry and pursue her.
Without saying much, the two of them arranged for several people to guard Kevin in the hospital, and then they set off for Serene's house.
Unfortunately, they were still a step late. James had sent people to guard the place early. "Mr. Valencia, Mrs. Valencia, when we arrived, she had already left. The servants said that she left after receiving a phone call and took many valuables."
Sarah's eyes darkened... a phone call?
Could it be that someone had tipped off Serene? She couldn't help but glance suspiciously at Antonio.
