Chapter 800 You Don't Want to See Me?
Mary was stunned by the question, not knowing what he was talking about.
She quickly said, "Oh, it's nothing. If you don't have time, just forget it. Your work is more important."
Mary's voice sounded pitiful, but Timothy didn't notice anything wrong. He said nothing and hung up.
"He said he has surgeries all day tomorrow." Mary started scrolling through her phone again. "How about this, I'll call the hospital and check if it's true."
Sarah felt a bit guilty, as it was just her suspicion and she didn't want Mary to trouble others. "If it's too much trouble, just forget it."
"Oh, it's no trouble at all!" Mary gave her a reassuring look. "Actually, my dad used to be the director at Unity Health Center! So, I'm pretty close with the head nurse, Phoebe Brooks. She really likes me, and I visit her often. She'll definitely tell me."
Sarah finally felt relieved. "Alright, thank you, Mary."
"Sarah, why are you being so polite with me again?" Mary pouted at her and then dialed the number right in front of her.
Phoebe happened to be on duty that night and was a bit surprised to get a call from Mary. Mary had always been sweet and quirky, well-liked at the hospital. After a few words, Phoebe was already amused."Ms. Brooks, could you send me Mr. Reed's surgery schedule for tomorrow?" After chatting for a while, she finally got to the point.
"Why do you need his schedule?" Phoebe asked.
"I need to see him about something tomorrow," Mary said in a soft, almost pleading voice. "But you know he has a bad temper, and I'm afraid to ask him directly. Could you tell me, please?"
Phoebe quickly gave in after a short conversation. "Alright. I'll send it to you later, but you mustn't share it with anyone."
Mary, being the former director Kenneth's daughter and familiar with Kenneth's student Timothy, didn't raise any suspicions for Phoebe.
"I definitely won't!" Mary excitedly looked at Sarah and gave her an OK gesture.
Not long after, Phoebe sent a picture of the surgery schedule via Facebook. Mary looked it over carefully and then raised her head in surprise. "Sarah, Timothy doesn't have any surgeries tomorrow. He..."
Sarah eagerly took her phone and checked it several times.
Indeed, there were no surgeries for Timothy.
So why did he lie? There must be some secret between these two men!
Actually, the reason Timothy's name wasn't on the schedule was that his surgery wouldn't be at Unity Health Center.
They just thought these two men might be up to something serious behind their backs!
"What should we do?" Mary asked.
Sarah's uneasy suspicion was confirmed, and after a moment of confusion, she handed the phone back to Mary. "No, I have to go find him now! I need to know what he's hiding from me!"
She had a bad feeling and couldn't help but think of the nightmare she had the night before.
Antonio was lying in a hospital bed, covered in tubes, dying.
If something like that happened again, she couldn't bear it.
Sarah didn't know. At that moment, she was filled with panic and anxiety. She rushed out of the study, almost tripping in her haste.
"Sarah!" Mary quickly caught her, worried. "Please, don't rush."
"How can I not rush?" Sarah's voice was choked and trembling, her eyes red and on the verge of tears, barely holding them back.
She tightly gripped Mary's hand, seeking some strength. "I'm scared something will happen to him."
No one knew better than Sarah how she had endured when Antonio had his accident before—the sleepless nights, the heart-wrenching pain.
She really didn't want to go through it again.
After regaining happiness, how could she bear to see it all turn into a dream?
"I know." Mary put her arm around her shoulder, her voice firm. "Antonio will be fine, trust me, okay?"
She checked the flight status on her phone and showed it to her. "There are no flights now. Even if we go to the airport, we'll have to wait. You should rest tonight, and we'll go in the morning, okay?"
"No flights." Sarah was both angry and anxious. She picked up her phone to call the driver. "I'll have the driver take us! We'll get there by morning!"
Mary held her hand and urgently stopped her. "Sarah! It's not safe for the driver to drive at night, especially such a long distance."
"There's a flight to Marshall City at dawn. We can take that one. You need to rest tonight so you can travel well, right?" Her clear voice had a calming effect.
Mary was now Sarah's rock. Under Mary's gentle reassurance, Sarah gradually calmed down.
She took a deep breath. "Then we'll get tickets for the dawn flight."
As long as they could get there quickly, anything would do.
"Okay." Mary felt relieved as Sarah calmed down. "Don't worry too much. Maybe we're just scaring ourselves. We'll know what's going on when we get to Marshall City tomorrow."
Sarah was persuaded to go back to her room. Mary, still worried, stayed with her. They analyzed the situation again.
Sarah felt a bit more at ease but still couldn't sleep.
No matter what, she had to get there before dawn to see what Antonio was up to.
The next day, Antonio woke up early. After getting dressed and washing up, he checked the time—ten minutes to eight.
He opened Facebook, and at the top was his chat with Sarah. His long, slender fingers danced on the screen as he sent a message.
Antonio: [Sarah, I'm about to go into the factory. You might not be able to reach me when you wake up. If you need anything, contact James. Love, Antonio.]
After sending it, Antonio took a deep breath, grabbed his phone, and headed out.
He never expected to find someone blocking his door.
Antonio was shocked, looking up to see the familiar figure of the pregnant Sarah, arms crossed, staring at him.
They locked eyes, and the air suddenly felt suffocating.
Those ten seconds felt like an eternity.
Antonio's heart was pounding, and he was at a loss for words.
After a while, he feigned surprise and tried to stay calm, taking Sarah's hand. "Sarah! What are you doing here?"
As he got closer, he noticed her red eyes and the dark circles under them.
Antonio immediately felt a pang of anxiety.
Sarah forced a smile, her gaze fixed on Antonio's face. "Don't you want to see me?"
