Chapter 68 Why Did She Take the Child?

Meanwhile, back at the villa.

Sarah walked in and immediately felt something was off. Usually, Harper would be chilling in the living room or her room, but nope, she was MIA. Sarah checked Antonio's study and his room too, but he was also nowhere to be found.

Sarah's heart started racing. Where the heck were they?

Did Antonio figure out who Harper really was and take her for a DNA test while she was out?

Or worse, did he already know Harper was his kid and lock her up somewhere?

Freaking out, Sarah whipped out her phone and, with shaky hands, called Antonio. The second he picked up, she blurted out, "Where's Harper?"

Antonio's voice was cold as ice. "Harper's missing."

"What?" Sarah's brain short-circuited.

She clenched her fists so hard her nails dug into her palms, trying to keep it together. "I'm coming over right now!"

Sarah bolted out of there and rushed to the nearby police station, following Antonio's directions. When she got to the surveillance room, Antonio was already there, and the cops were pulling up the footage.

"Hurry up," he snapped, clearly losing his patience.

"Yes, Mr. Valencia!" The officer practically jumped, not wanting to piss off the big boss, and quickly got the footage rolling.

Sarah was too freaked out to notice anything else. She glued her eyes to the screen, biting her lip and clutching her clothes so hard her knuckles turned white.

Harper had to be okay. She just had to be.

Antonio felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. Harper had vanished on his watch.

"Stop!" Antonio suddenly shouted, spotting something familiar on the screen.

Sarah saw Harper too and gripped the table like her life depended on it.

Everyone held their breath, eyes glued to the footage.

In the video, Harper was just sitting there eating when a slim figure in white showed up.

The woman in white sneaked up behind Harper, quickly covered her mouth, and whisked her away into a nearby alley.

As she turned, the camera caught her face.

"It's Lusa!" Sarah's eyes went wide with fear and disbelief. "How could it be her? Wasn't she arrested yesterday?"

Antonio's face was as dark as a storm cloud. "Lusa got bailed out."

Sarah's eyes widened. "Why would she take Harper?"

Lusa just got out, and the first thing she did was snatch Harper? Something was definitely up.

Antonio shot Sarah a look. "Today, when I took Harper out, Lusa came begging for my help. I told her to get lost."

Sarah snapped back, "Then why didn't you keep an eye on Harper?"

The reality of Harper being with Lusa hit her like a ton of bricks.

Sarah felt like she was gonna faint. "What if Lusa loses it and hurts Harper?"

Antonio's anger was like a ticking time bomb, ready to blow any second.

The street was packed with cameras, and they caught Lusa shoving Harper into a red sedan and speeding off north.

Antonio sent the license plate to his team, and they quickly tracked it down. "The car's still on the move. Harper should be okay for now."

He turned to leave the surveillance room. "I'm going to get Harper. You should go home."

As he got into his car, Sarah jumped in too, her voice shaking. "I'm coming with you. Just drive!"

Even though they had a lead, as long as Harper was with Lusa, Sarah couldn't chill.

Lusa was cornered and desperate. Sarah knew her well—spoiled and dangerous, she could do anything to Harper.

Antonio tried to reason with her. "It's too risky. You should stay back."

Lusa was probably unhinged by now. He couldn't let Sarah get caught in the crossfire.

But Sarah was on the verge of breaking down. "That's why I gotta go! No time to waste, just drive! If anything happens to Harper, can you handle that?"

Antonio gave her a long, hard look and finally started the car.

They followed the signal to an abandoned factory on the outskirts of Silvercrest. From a distance, they spotted the red sedan parked outside.

Before the car even stopped, Sarah bolted out.

Her heart nearly stopped when she saw Harper hanging from a top-floor window of the four-story warehouse.

Sarah screamed, "Harper!"
