Chapter 179 Finding the Toy

Upon hearing this sound, the children ran out and stood on the steps, laughing uncontrollably.

"Hahaha! This doggy is awesome! I knew it would teach this mean lady a lesson. She dared to scold Mommy!" Harper raised her little fist and pretended to be fierce. There was an additional hint of mischief in her adorable face, like an annoyed kitten.

Ethan shook his head helplessly, reached out, and touched Harper's hair, feeling much more at ease.

That mean lady deserved a lesson for scolding Mommy and bullying Harper.

It took a while, but Sharon finally approached the children with disheveled hair and torn clothes, angrily saying, "Messing with me, you little brat?! Just like your mother! So malicious! And you two little brats teamed up to mess with me, quite the act."

Harper tilted her chin and pouted in dissatisfaction. "You're the malicious one! Mommy is the best person, and I won't allow you to insult her."

"So what if I insult her? I'm insulting you too, you little brat!" Sharon cursed and walked towards Harper, clearly intending to take action.

Unexpectedly, Ryan stepped forward, blocking in front of Harper, gathering his courage and saying, "I won't allow you to bully her!"

Sharon shoved Ryan aside, saying viciously, "Get out of my way. Do you really think this is your home? Look clearly! This is not your home, and Sarah is not your mother!"

When she tried to act, she was held back by the nearby bodyguard and thrown out!

Sharon shouted at the top of her lungs, "Let go of me—"

Before she could finish her sentence, she was silenced by the bodyguard and thrown out of the villa.

Upon seeing this, Ethan felt bored and turned back to his room.

Meanwhile, Harper planned to follow Ethan but noticed Ryan standing still, lost in thought. She approached him with a smile and asked, "Are you okay? The mean lady is gone. You don't have to be scared."

She was surprised when Ryan suddenly stood before her to protect her.

"It's not fear…" Ryan carefully glanced at her and walked away with a sense of defeat.

Indeed, he knew… this was no longer his home.

Seeing his dad and Harper talking together, he felt envious every day. He also wanted to be closer to his dad but didn't know how to do it.

His mom used to scold him, saying he didn't know how to please his dad. At the time, he was just focused on being afraid. Now, he realized he simply couldn't learn how to please him.

He also wanted to be like Harper, talk more with his dad, and get along well with Ethan and Sarah.

Harper watched Ryan leave alone, hesitated for a moment, and followed him. She grabbed the hem of his clothes and asked softly, "What's wrong? Do you think we were too harsh on that mean lady just now?"

"It's not because of her. It's because… Because..." Ryan looked at Harper for a while but couldn't bring himself to say it.

Perhaps he was just surplus here now.

Harper and the others were the real family—he was just an outsider there...

Perhaps he should have listened to Lucien and lived with him.

With these thoughts, Ryan ran back to his own room. He was now going to pack his things and tell Lucien that he… didn't want to live in the villa anymore.

Harper saw this and didn't know what was going on. She scratched her head, quickly caught up, and felt a bit worried, seeing Ryan packing his things.

She quickly stopped him and furrowed her little eyebrows, asking, "What's wrong with you? Hmph! If you don't tell me, I won't let you leave."

She didn't understand why he was suddenly sad when everything was fine just now. She didn't want to see those around her unhappy.

Ryan looked at Harper's serious gaze for a while before lowering his head and saying, "I… It's not suitable for me to live here anymore. Daddy and you are a family... Your mom isn't my mom… I should still live with Grandpa. It's better that way."

With that, he bypassed Harper and intended to go back to his room.

Although he was reluctant to leave Harper and this place, what Sharon had said was true. He wasn't Sarah's child and didn't fit in here.

Harper instinctively grabbed his clothes and pretended to be angry, saying, "Are you thinking like this because of what that mean lady said? It's not like that at all. You're good here. Nobody will make you leave, don't worry."

Ryan still hung his head, speaking with a low spirit, "Really? Don't you think what she said is right?"

Harper was a determined child and shook her head firmly.

"Not at all, this is your home... I already see you as my brother. In my heart, we are family," Harper said.

Ryan's head, which was hanging low, slowly lifted up as he stared into Harper's eyes, and a glimmer appeared.

After a while, he murmured, "Family, huh?"

He really wanted to be a family with Harper, but those were Harper's words...

He had no idea if others would accept him.

Lost in thought, he felt a warm sensation on his cheek.

Ryan was taken aback. When he saw Harper pulling away and returning to his side, he couldn't believe that he had touched his warm cheek just now.

Harper... Did she just kiss me?
