Chapter 868 Just Right, Let Her Succeed!
Lisa put on a convincing act, her face full of regret and guilt.
This made Ryan understand why she only ate one burger.
He thought Lisa had it really tough, so he immediately extended an invitation, "Why don't you come and eat with me every day from now on? I always have too much food, and it would be a waste if I can't finish it."
"How could I possibly do that?" Lisa quickly waved her hand to refuse, "I'm already very grateful that you let me eat with you today. You don't need to trouble yourself in the future; I'll just eat burgers."
"It's no trouble at all." Hearing her tone, Ryan's sympathy was further aroused. "It's also bad to waste food, and I eat alone every day. I'd be happy if you could keep me company."
With the conversation reaching this point, Lisa would miss the opportunity if she didn't agree. She pretended to be very conflicted for a while before finally agreeing, "Alright then, if you need any help at school, you can come to me!"
Ryan finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Okay, it's a deal."
Lisa looked at him gratefully, "Yes, it's a deal!"
Meanwhile, Sarah and Antonio, after dropping off the kids, went to a nearby mall and had a romantic dinner.
Since she was pregnant, she couldn't do much else.
Antonio bought her a bouquet of flowers. "Do you remember when I used to give you flowers, and you thought it was too cliché?"
"Haha, I just thought these flowers had too short a lifespan and couldn't be preserved." Sarah pouted, then gently kissed the flowers in her hand. Just as she looked up, her phone rang from her bag. She handed the flowers to Antonio, "I'll take this call."
It was a call from the home phone.
Sarah had a hunch and answered with a frown. "Hello."
"Mrs. Valencia, you were right yesterday. I found two pairs of earrings, a necklace, and a brooch in Cressida Hamilton's room. How would you like to handle this?"
It was the housekeeper calling.
Sarah had noticed that her jewelry kept disappearing from her vanity. After some observation, she found that a maid, Cressida, always volunteered to clean her dressing room.
She had her suspicions and privately asked the housekeeper to keep an eye on things.
She didn't expect it to actually be her.
"If all the items have been recovered, let's just let it go," Sarah said.
After all, Cressida had worked for them for a long time, and Sarah didn't want to be too harsh, "No need to call the cop, just fire her."
After hanging up, her good mood was gone, and she stared at her phone absentmindedly.
Antonio, who had been standing nearby, had overheard some of the conversation and gently comforted her, "She's young and couldn't resist temptation. She'll face the consequences eventually."
"Yes." Sarah sighed, "We treat them well enough."
"It's okay, we'll just hire someone new. Most of the other staff are still good people."
"Yes." Sarah took the flowers back from him, "Let's not think about it. How about we go see a movie? We can pick up Ryan afterward."
Antonio agreed softly, "Alright."
The next day, something big happened at school that left Ryan feeling very troubled for the first time.
During the afternoon snack, Lisa accidentally dropped her mask, revealing a hideous scar on her face, which scared a timid little girl who saw it and started crying on the spot.
The teacher couldn't calm her down and had to call her parents.
The little girl's mother arrived quickly, and after understanding the situation, she was furious. "Aren't you supposed to be the best school? How could you hire someone like this?"
"She looks so ugly with that big scar on her face. She can't be a good person! Now my child is scared, who will take responsibility for this?"
Lisa apologized while crying, but it didn't appease the mother's anger, and she ended up complaining to the principal.
The children attending this school were from wealthy families, and their parents had investments or donations to the school, so the principal had to protect their interests and decided to fire Lisa on the spot.
When Ryan came out during recess, he saw Lisa crying in a corner.
He had heard the teachers talking about what happened in the cafeteria.
Lisa was really pitiful. Her family situation was already so bad, and now she had just started working and lost her job. She wouldn't be able to eat with him anymore. And what about her son with a terminal illness?
The more Ryan thought about it, the more he felt sorry for her. He went over to say hello.
Lisa looked up in a daze, and when she saw him, she quickly wiped her tears and forced a bitter smile, "It's you. I'm making a fool of myself again."
"Not at all." Ryan shook his head, "It wasn't your fault. You don't mean to scare anyone, and that parent is too unforgiving."
Lisa smiled bitterly, "I didn't expect that at this point, I'd need a child to comfort me. Thank you. But I probably won't be able to keep my promise to have lunch with you anymore."
Ryan frowned, "Are you leaving soon?"
"Yes." Lisa's sallow face was full of helplessness, "People like me can't afford to lose their income. There aren't many places that would hire me, and now I've been fired. I have to try to find another job."
It seemed that finding a job was very difficult for her.
Ryan pursed his lips, somewhat understanding her difficulties and feeling sympathetic.
But he didn't have any good solutions for now, so he could only comfort her, "Don't worry, you'll definitely find a new job!"
"Yes, I'll try my best. I'll come back tomorrow to finish the paperwork and then start looking for a job right away!"
Seeing her trying so hard to live, Ryan felt sad. He stayed with her for a while longer before returning to his class, deep in thought.
On the way home from school, Ryan was unusually quiet.
Sarah reached out to hold his little hand, "Ryan, did something happen at school?"
Ryan hesitated for a moment and then told her what had happened in the cafeteria.
"Mommy, do you think that parent was too much?"
"A little bit." Sarah nodded, "She might have been worried about her child, but Ryan, you must remember that judging people by their appearance is wrong, and we should never use it as a weapon to hurt others. That parent was wrong, and we shouldn't follow her example."
Ryan nodded heavily, "Get it, Mommy!"
So, that cafeteria worker was really pitiful.
When they got back to the villa, Ethan and Harper, who had arrived earlier, came out to greet them. "You're finally back! It's almost dinner time!"
Sarah led them inside, "What delicious food did the housekeeper make?"
"A bit of everything!"
Just then, the housekeeper came out of the kitchen, helping Ryan change his clothes and shoes, and then said to Sarah, "Mrs. Valencia, Cressida has left today. I made sure she returned all the stolen jewelry, and it's on your vanity. Please check if everything is there. If anything is missing, I'll go find her."
"Okay." Sarah nodded, then turned back and said, "See if there's anyone suitable around. If so, hire someone to help you."
Ryan was about to go into the living room with his siblings when he suddenly ran over after hearing this, "Mommy! Are we hiring another housekeeper?"
