Chapter 625 The Heart Ached for Her
Knowing that if she contacted him, things would be different.
She was so stubborn.
Benjamin coldly withdrew his gaze, forcing himself to turn away ruthlessly. He shouldn't care so much. Sarah was right; there was nothing between them; she was just the rival company that he was about to acquire.
He should suppress those unnecessary sympathies. After all, she needn't.
Sarah returned somewhat lost from Harrington Group to The Jerrett Group. She couldn't see anyone from Harrington Group now, so she had to figure things out herself, at least try to restore some of The Jerrett Group's reputation.
Sarah instructed, "James, go with me to the factory again now, disclose all the production processes and data, let everyone see our attitude in handling this situation first, and don't stop the investigation."
"Yes," James was prepared early, "I have had them prepare the documents."
"That's good," Sarah praised and finally showed a hint of a smile.
But things went differently than planned.
Just as they walked out of the company building, they were surprised to see many reporters outside!
And the nearby crowd swarmed up when they saw them, their voices overlapping as if it was set up.
Somebody shouted, "They're here! They're out!"
Another accused, "The Jerrett Group's fabric has problems. Are you just going to ignore it like this!"
Someone added, "Exactly! You have no morals! If we hadn't come to block you today, would you still want to hide and not see anyone!!"
The crowd was in an uproar, and each one was pissed off as if they were proclaiming justice.
The reporters, seeing the public speaking up, didn't immediately ask any questions. They held their cameras high, flashing crazily, afraid of missing any shot.
Sarah was almost pushed to the ground, but luckily, James protected her.
She was surrounded by noisy voices and flashes, her mind went blank for a moment. James shouted beside her, "Speak if you have something to say; don't push us!"
Ms. Miller was still pregnant and had just come out of the hospital; how could she withstand this commotion now?
However, two radical individuals not only didn't step back but instead moved forward.
One of them taunted, "What, do you want to fight!"
The other added, "Thinking you're so great just because you're the big bosses!!"
At this point, the crowd started pushing, almost bumping into Sarah.
She held onto her abdomen tightly, steadied her mind forcibly, let go of James protecting her, and stood up straight before speaking, "I understand everyone's feelings, but please calm down first and be careful not to get hurt."
Although her voice wasn't particularly loud, it had an inexplicable penetrating power.
Everyone stopped and looked at the slender, beautiful woman in front of them.
"I know this incident has disappointed everyone. Regardless of whether the problem occurred within our company, we have an undeniable responsibility." Sarah looked at the cameras in front of her, as well as the disgruntled ordinary people, and promised sincerely, "Please rest assured, our company will definitely investigate the truth of the matter and give everyone an explanation. At the same time, we will compensate for all losses incurred by consumers."
As soon as she said this, a seemingly haggard man nearby sneered and rushed over, shouting, "Compensation?! Do you think just saying compensation will solve everything? Let me tell you! Impossible!"
The man was extremely agitated, shouting, "My daughter had severe allergic reactions and complications from wearing your clothes. She's still lying in the hospital!"
"She's only ten years old! It's all you heartless capitalists' fault!" the man accused.
Sarah was very shocked, she hadn't expected such a thing.
She was also a mother, and looking at the man's bloodshot eyes, she felt equally uncomfortable. "I... I'm sorry. We will definitely find out the truth and give you an answer. The Jerrett Group will bear all the expenses incurred in treating your daughter," she stated with concern.
She really didn't understand how things had escalated to this point. The company's reputation was so good that many long-time customers cooperated with The Jerrett Group based on its reputation.
How did it come to this?
Suddenly, Sarah heard a bang in her ear. A voice yelled out to warn her, "Ms. Miller, be careful!"
Sarah felt a chill, and upon hearing the voice, she looked up suddenly!
It turned out to be the distraught father from earlier. He had come prepared, suddenly pulled eggs from his pocket, aimed at Sarah, and threw them at her!
James didn't care about anything else and quickly pulled her aside.
But the man didn't stop, throwing one egg after another.
The scene was chaotic. Sarah was quite scared, letting James dodge left and right with her, but the people were too angry, and even the security couldn't stop them.
Bob had just arrived and saw this heart-pounding scene. He was furious, shouting before even getting out of the car, "What are you all doing!"
Everyone's attention was momentarily diverted, and James immediately led Sarah back.
In a short while, Bob already came over.
Seeing Sarah's bewildered look, he felt extremely uncomfortable. He turned around with a very intimidating look and sternly said, "Do you know that your actions have already constituted provocation and troublemaking? If I call the police now and hold you accountable, it could even be a criminal offense! Do you want to go to jail"?
He said it very seriously, making the egg-thrower hesitate a bit.
"Who are you trying to scare!" the distraught father said, defiantly.
Bob narrowed his eyes, and said, "Then try it!"
In the end, the man put away the eggs in his hand, but he didn't hold back verbally, "This matter won't just end like this! None of you are allowed to leave today!"
Someone chimed in, "That's right!"
Another added, "You can't leave!"
The surrounding people joined in the uproar as if afraid that things wouldn't escalate.
"It's not up to you." Bob glanced at Sarah and, seeing that she was unharmed, spoke calmly, "If our fabric indeed fails quality inspection, relevant authorities will penalize us, everyone is waiting for a result, what you're doing now is just a waste of time!"
Ignoring the ongoing commotion behind him, Bob gave James a look, and the two of them escorted Sarah back into the building.
Bob finally breathed a sigh of relief and glanced outside. "Those people won't be able to leave for a while," he remarked.
James was also at his wit's end. Ms. Miller's current condition required rest.
Sarah's heart was still racing; the egg that had hit her earlier had been quite forceful, and the area was still sore.
She weakly managed a smile, and said, "Thank you."
James shook his head. He pleaded, "Let Bob take you out through the underground garage. I'll stay here to deal with it. Ms. Miller, go back and rest well. Your health is more important right now."
"Okay." Sarah subconsciously touched her stomach, her voice still trembling with fear as she said, "I will take care of myself."
And the child.
Seeing this, Bob quickly took off his coat, escorted Sarah to the garage, borrowed a nondescript car from a colleague, and drove her back to the villa.
Benjamin was in the president's office of Harrington Group, watching the live broadcast of the events that had just taken place outside The Jerrett Group.
The scene of Sarah being hit by eggs fell perfectly into those deep eyes.
And the panic on Sarah's face.
She looked like a startled rabbit.
Benjamin suddenly felt a suffocating sensation in his chest, gripping the pen in his hand tighter and tighter as if he wanted to break it.
He couldn't bear it any longer, and he immediately called Daniel.
He impatiently demanded, "Who is responsible for this matter? Have them come in to see me!"
