Chapter 452 Comforting Antonio – Don't Be Afraid!

Back then…

Serene, once known as "Little Serene," didn't possess the ambitious drive she now exhibited, nor did she have a surname. Raised in an orphanage, she never experienced kindness firsthand.

As a child, she had to hustle to survive. Otherwise, she feared no one would even bother to bury her if she perished from starvation.

Luckily, she lived in a city famous for tourism, home to a renowned snowy mountain crowned with a luxurious ski resort.

Every peak season, she'd work there, picking up odd jobs.

One day, while Serene was tidying up the skiing equipment, a strikingly handsome boy approached. He was around her age, but his clothes screamed wealth—just the price of his ski suit alone could cover Serene's living expenses for an entire year.

"I stored my snowboard here. Could you find it for me? My name is Antonio Valencia."

Serene followed the details to retrieve the snowboard. As she had guessed, it was from the premium VIP lockers of the ski resort.

"Thanks," said Antonio coldly, his voice more chilling than the surrounding snowscape.

He never gave Serene more than a glance.

But Serene couldn't forget the boy, and her curiosity to see him ski led her to conjure up excuses to visit the high-end slopes.

However, the calm ski slopes were suddenly engulfed by a massive avalanche. Without a moment to spare, Serene turned on her heel and sprinted.

During her escape, she heard a desperate cry.

Glancing back, she recognized the boy she had noticed earlier—it was Antonio!

"Help!" Antonio's voice, weak and completely unlike his earlier cool demeanor, sliced through the chaos.

Serene bit her lip, indecisive.

In that split second of hesitation, another young woman darted towards Antonio and threw herself at him to help!

And then, they were both swallowed by the white curtain of snow.

Serene thought, 'What a fool! Who risks their life in a situation like this? Clearly a death wish'

She sighed, the sound lasting but a second, before she hastened to safety.

Familiar with the lay of the land, Serene sought refuge in a sheltered spot typically reserved as backup storage for the ski resort, where abandoned ski gear lay dormant. She retrieved a jacket and settled into a corner, sheltered from the wind.

As the commotion outside settled, she assumed most folks had made it to secured grounds, while those who hadn't were now entombed beneath the snowy mantle.

"What a waste," she murmured. "All the money in the world doesn't outweigh sheer luck."

But soon after, Antonio's pleas for help reached her ears again. She paused, inching her way towards the entrance.

She realized that the spot where the boy was trapped wasn't too far off, and the open space carried his voice clearly to her, making it audible amidst the silence.

But the blizzard hadn't ceased, and stepping out meant risking a snowy grave—something Serene wasn't willing to wager.

Helplessly, she watched Antonio's cries gradually become muffled by the relentless storm.

Not a trace of sympathy flickered in her gaze, only a tinge of contempt.

'Rich kids have it all, yet they can be so foolish!'

Amid the howling snow, a girl's voice rose from below, seemingly offering words of comfort to Antonio. She wasn't as deeply buried; Serene could see her small hand scraping at the snow, attempting to dig Antonio out.

Serene frowned. 'Why are some people so foolish?'

"Just go, don't worry about me," came Antonio's faint voice.

Following a brief silence, the girl finally stopped moving.

"I knew it." Serene smirked, pleased to see someone else with sense.

However, the story didn’t continue as she anticipated.

After struggling for a while, the girl miraculously freed herself from the snow.

She staggered away only to return moments later.

Unbelievably, she went back to trying to save Antonio, her actions defying the ruthless whims of the blizzard that surrounded them.

Like that, Serene gazed at the girl who dug through the snow all night long, carving a pathway to Antonio with sheer perseverance...

Almost a whole night passed before Serene cracked her eyes open, still groggy.

The blizzard had ceased, and rescue teams along with many family members came in search of their loved ones.

That little girl, drained of all her strength, was whisked away in an ambulance alongside Antonio.

Only after everyone had left did Serene emerge.

Driven by an unknown force, she strolled to the spot where Antonio had lain buried throughout the night. Amidst the blanket of white, her sharp eyes caught a glimpse of something colorful shimmering!

Without hesitation, Serene knelt and began to dig, revealing a bracelet nestled in the snow. Its exquisite design bespoke a value beyond the ordinary.

As she picked up the bracelet, Serene realized it must have slipped from the grasp of the little girl while clearing the path for Antonio the previous night

A smug smile crept across her face. "This pretty bracelet is sure to fetch a handsome price."

She promptly slid the bracelet onto her own wrist. This was something she had to keep from prying eyes; it would be snatched up in an instant otherwise.

Afterwards, she quit her job at the ski resort; such dangerous places were no longer on her list.

The bracelet remained fastened on her wrist, never finding the chance for a sale.

As time passed, she matured and eventually left the orphanage as more job opportunities presented themselves, taking on work wherever she could find it.

Then one day, a luxury car pulled up outside her modest home!

"Who would've thought such a fancy ride would stop in this rundown spot," Serene muttered, unwittingly failing to notice as the front door suddenly swung open.

Two men in black suits barged in, heading straight for Serene. Without a word, they rolled up her sleeve.

"You're Serene, right? Sir, this is the bracelet."

"What do you want with me? This is mine!" Panicked, she feared they were after the bracelet, which could spell trouble if they accused her of theft.

But unexpectedly, the men's demeanor turned respectful.

"Don't be frightened, we're here to escort you to meet someone. Miss, we have been searching for you for ages."
