Chapter 970 Paternity Test

Mary had no clue how things had spiraled out of control or why Timothy was so mad. Perhaps he genuinely believed she was merely a burden.

He didn't want a divorce, probably just out of respect for her father.

But what was the point of that?

Mary let out a bitter laugh, her mind a chaotic mess. She didn't want to stay here any longer, so she packed her things and bought a ticket for a night flight back to Capital City.

She hadn't accomplished what she set out to do, but she still needed to give Sarah an explanation.

It was almost laughable. She had been so confident before, promising she could get it done.

And now, this was the result.

She had caused a lot of trouble and achieved nothing.

By the time Mary arrived at the Valencia Villa, it was already evening. Sarah saw the despondent girl at the door and immediately felt a pang of worry.

"Mary... Did something happen? Come in and tell me."

Mary shook her head and hugged her tightly.

"I'm sorry, Sarah... I didn't get anything done. I'm really sorry."

Sarah gently patted her back, frowning as she listened to Mary's choked sobs. "I thought something serious had happened. It's okay, if we didn't find anything, we'll think of another way. Your safety is our top priority. Did something happen? Hmm?"

"No."

What happened between her and Timothy wasn't anything new.

Mary sniffled a couple of times and let go of her. "I just feel bad for not keeping my promise to you."

"Silly girl, there's nothing to feel bad about."

Sarah could tell there was more to it, but since Mary didn't want to talk about it, she didn't press the issue. She pulled her inside. "It's good that you're back. The kids have missed you. Spend some time with them."

"Okay."

The kids noticed that Mary was in a bad mood and tried all sorts of ways to cheer her up. Before long, she felt much better.

"Mary."

Sarah walked over, looking surprised, with a laptop in her hand.

"Dr. Mu's assistant sent this over. Come take a look with me."

Hearing Timothy's name made Mary's heart ache, but she was also curious. "What did he send you?"

"It's the birth records of the Morrison family's child!"

Sarah had already opened the email, and the information inside made her excited. "Look, the Morrison family had a child a few months ago, but the child passed away. The hospital has complete records, and there are even photos of the Morrison family burying the child!"

Did Timothy help investigate all this?

Mary looked at the information, feeling a mix of emotions.

She couldn't understand why that man would say such cruel things to her, but then help Sarah. What did it mean?

No... No, that wasn't right.

Timothy and her brother-in-law were friends, so it was only natural for him to help them.

So it couldn't be because of her, right?

Mary gave a self-deprecating smile and forced herself to focus. "Sarah, does this mean we can confirm that Nia isn't the Morrison family's adopted child, but Eden?"

"No, we still need to confirm."

Sarah's voice trembled with excitement, and she didn't notice Mary's unusual mood. She was almost incoherent.

"I have to find a way to get a DNA test for Nia... If she's not the Morrison family's child, then where did she come from?"

"If she really is Eden, how did she end up with the Morrison family? And Bob... Does he know about this?"

Mary held Sarah's hand and gently reassured her. "Don't worry, Sarah. Now that we know, the truth will come out, and Eden will come back to us."

Actually, with the identity confirmed, there was an eighty percent chance.

But she knew Sarah had been disappointed too many times, so she couldn't make any promises.

Sarah nodded with teary eyes. "Yes... The truth will come out."

Eden... Just wait a little longer for Mom.

Antonio came back late at night. Sarah looked at his tired face with concern, but couldn't wait to share the good news.

"So now we know for sure that Nia isn't the Morrison family's child."

The atmosphere between them was heavy.

Even though this result was expected, Antonio couldn't help but get angry. "If Bob is behind all this, I won't let him get away with it!"

Sarah was silent.

She had always treated Bob like a younger brother, not wanting to hold grudges.

But if he had really conspired with someone like Guadalupe to separate her from her child, she would have to hold it against him.

If Bob was truly the culprit, she could no longer say it didn't matter.

Seeing her sadness, Antonio put down his phone and pulled her into his arms. "The most important thing now is to get a DNA test for Nia. Leave it to me."

The next morning, Sarah woke up to find Antonio already gone. After washing up, she went downstairs to find Mary in the living room, working on her laptop.

"Morning, Mary."

"Oh... Morning, Sarah." Mary was lost in thought and almost jumped at her voice. "Antonio left early and asked me to tell you not to worry. He's got everything under control."

Sarah poured herself a glass of water and felt a bit relieved, but she sighed, thinking about how late he had worked the night before.

"He's been working so hard these days... I can't help much."

"Sarah, how can you say that? Antonio handles things outside, and you take care of things at home. You all have your own duties."

Mary envied their relationship, their mutual understanding, and support. That was how a normal couple should be, right?

Unlike her and Timothy...

Thinking of him made her mood drop again.

Sarah noticed her troubled expression and sat beside her, speaking softly. "What's wrong? Missing Dr. Mu?"

"No." Mary shook her head. "I just think it's really hard to find someone who truly matches you."

Most of the time, she and Timothy were arguing, and it was always over trivial things.

Sarah had heard about their relationship from Antonio and didn't know how to comfort her. After a while, she sighed. "When you can't see a way forward, just focus on the present. Respect your choices and leave the rest to time."

Mary agreed with her and nodded firmly.

After all, she was still in school. Who knew what the future held?

Maybe one day... When Timothy's first love came back, he would ask for a divorce, and she wouldn't have to worry anymore.

Sarah saw her fiddling with her laptop and was about to leave when she noticed the application form. "Mary, are you planning to transfer schools?"

"To be precise, it's an exchange program." Mary bit her lip. "I'm planning to apply to Capital City University for next semester. That way, I can see you and Cynthia more often."

She sounded cheerful, as if she was really happy.

But only she knew she was doing it to avoid Timothy...
