Chapter 767 The Surgery Was Successful

Sarah stood there, totally stunned, letting him hold her until his familiar scent hit her nose. That's when she knew for sure it was Antonio.

Sarah thought, 'Antonio? How the heck is he here? Shouldn't he be in Capital City right now?'

A million questions raced through her mind, but the biggest thing was the rush of emotions from seeing him, making her eyes well up.

Antonio let her go and saw her red eyes. "Why are you crying?" he asked, quickly hugging her again and giving her a kiss. "Aren't you happy to see me?"

"Why'd you show up out of nowhere?" Sarah sniffled, shaking her head. "I was just cursing you for not replying to my messages."

Antonio chuckled. "I was in such a hurry to see you, I didn't even check my phone."

Sarah glanced at the lit-up sign above the operating room, her mood darkening. "Cynthia's already in there. I'm really worried."

"It'll be okay," Antonio said, pulling her to sit beside him. "I'll wait with you. Cynthia's got luck on her side; the surgery will go well."

With her hand in his, Sarah felt a lot calmer. She then thought about the situation in Capital City and asked, "Do the kids know you came over?"

"Yeah."

Antonio let her rest on his shoulder and gave her a quick rundown of things back home.

"Brian's got everything under control. Harold really thinks you're dead."

Sarah almost laughed. "Didn't he notice anything off?"

Antonio sneered. "He's always been so full of himself. Why wouldn't he believe it?"

Sarah sighed, turning to look at Antonio. "How could someone so obsessed have a son as good as you?"

Antonio raised an eyebrow. "Is that your way of saying you approve of me, Mrs. Valencia?"

Sarah laughed. "Don't get too full of yourself. You still need to do better!"

Antonio nodded, playing along. "By the way, Harold's also in Marshall City now. You need to be extra careful and avoid him."

"He's here too?" Sarah was a bit surprised but not too worried.

After all, she was wearing a disguise, and even people who knew her might not recognize her. Plus, she and Harold were just acquaintances, so the chances of running into him were slim.

As for Cynthia, she'd been in Marshall City all these years without Harold finding her, which suggested he was unaware of her presence.

It should be safe for Cynthia to stay here. Otherwise, with his twisted nature, he would've found and hurt Cynthia long ago!

The thought still made Sarah shudder.

"I deliberately lured him here," Antonio explained. "Only by getting him out of Capital City can I have a chance to find evidence. He's moved most of his important stuff there. While he's not around, I need to act."

Sarah got it but still warned him, "He must've left some backup. Be careful."

Antonio reassured her, "He doesn't suspect me much now. Trust me."

Sarah finally stopped worrying. They chatted about other things, and before they knew it, a few hours had passed, and the door to the operating room finally opened.

Mary emerged, slightly surprised to see Antonio there. She smiled and greeted him, "Mr. White!"

Antonio smiled back. "Thanks for everything you've done."

Mary said, "No problem. Let's check on Cynthia first."

They could only take a quick look, though. Cynthia was moved to the ICU and needed to be monitored for forty-eight hours before they could transfer her to a regular ward, assuming she made it through the critical period.

Even so, Sarah felt a huge wave of relief.

"Mary, please thank Dr. Reed for me. Without you, Cynthia's surgery wouldn't have gone so smoothly."

Timothy was always super busy, and it was tough to catch him. Since Mary was close to him, it made sense to pass on her thanks through her.

"Sarah, you don't have to be so formal with me." Mary glanced at Cynthia in the ward. "Even if you hadn't shown up, knowing Cynthia was sick, I wouldn't have ignored her."

As for Timothy, she really owed him a big thanks.

Mary had just heard from a nurse a couple of days ago that Timothy's surgery schedule was packed, and Cynthia's surgery was squeezed in last minute, eating into his already limited rest time.

Sarah was touched but didn't know what else to say. She patted Mary on the shoulder and said, "Cynthia's surgery was successful, you should go rest. You've been with us all day."

Mary thought for a moment. With Cynthia in the ICU, there wasn't much she could do by staying. "I'll go for now. Call me if you need anything."

Sarah smiled and agreed, "Okay."

Antonio came back from a phone call just in time to hear their conversation.

Antonio chimed in, "You should go rest too. I've arranged for a new caregiver to watch over her."

"I..." Sarah was about to refuse.

"No refusals." He looked at her intently, pinching Sarah's cheek and saying dotingly, "Remember you're still pregnant?"

"Cynthia is important, but so is your own health." He hugged Sarah gently, "This caregiver is very reliable and will take good care of Cynthia. You just take care of yourself and the baby."

Hearing his tone, Sarah looked up, "Are you leaving?"

Sarah responded faintly.

Antonio's eyes reflected her face, full of reluctance. "With Harold here, I must seize this opportunity. Once I finish the last task, I'll come to get you."

Sarah was also reluctant to see him go but could only nod and remind, "Take good care of yourself too."

Antonio first took Sarah back to the hotel before taking a cab to the airport, catching the earliest flight back to Capital City.

Meanwhile, on her way back from the hospital, Mary kept thinking about how to thank Timothy.

As she racked her brain for the perfect gesture, she suddenly remembered that Timothy probably hadn't eaten after performing surgeries until now.

Her eyes lit up, and she went to the mall.

When she finished cooking and brought the food to the hospital, it was just in time for dinner.

Mary hesitated at the office door for a while before taking out her phone and sending Timothy a message: [Are you in the office now?]

The reply came quickly: [Yes.]

She pouted, 'He's so cold.' But her main purpose today was to deliver food, so she didn't dwell on that.

With that thought, she knocked and walked in, finding Timothy engrossed in a medical case.

Hearing the sound, he looked up, a bit surprised. "Mary? What are you doing here?"

Mary didn't know why, but every time she met his gaze, she couldn't help but blush, and this time was no exception.

She lowered her head. "Well, you probably haven't eaten yet, right? I made some dishes for you to try!"

She said, placing the thermos on the desk, then quickly retreating to her original position to maintain a respectful distance.

Timothy raised an eyebrow with interest. "You can cook?"
