Chapter 346 Alex Is Really a Problem!
Victor, under the impression that Antonio was about to strike him, hastily settled himself on the ground. Antonio released his grip, his face twisted in contempt. "In the future, unless it's of utmost importance, refrain from coming here. This is my home. If you dare to frighten my children again, I won't be so lenient next time!"
"Alright, alright, I understand," Victor stammered, scrambling to his feet. "If my daughter ever yearns for me, I'll have her come to me instead. I'll take my leave now." With that, he scurried away as if pursued by a rabid pack of hounds.
Antonio watched him until he was entirely out of sight, his cold snort echoing in the silence. His gaze fell on the strand of hair in his hand, his eyes gleaming with a plan already forming in his mind.
"Mommy, Daddy, is that man truly our grandfather?" Harper asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Sarah, summoning all her strength to remain composed, comforted her children. "Mommy will explain everything to you later, my darlings. Don't worry."
Antonio opened and closed his mouth several times before finally finding his voice. "Sarah, look at this."
"What is it?" Sarah asked, her eyes narrowing, her tone icy.
"It's something I bought specifically for you when I went to work just now. Would you like to try it first..."
But before Antonio could finish his sentence, Sarah had already retreated to her room, the door slamming shut behind her.
Their three children exchanged troubled glances, their hearts heavy with sympathy for their father.
"Daddy, you have to stay strong!" Harper encouraged, but with their mother in such a state, he knew better than to approach her.
Ethan, not one for many words, retreated to his room. Seeing this, Harper followed suit.
Ryan was at a loss for how to console his father. He opened his mouth to speak, then thought better of it, retreating to his room in silence.
"Woof! Woof!" Century Garden, their dog, barked a few times at the door, his tail wagging like a helicopter rotor, seemingly pleading for his master to feed him.
Antonio looked at Century Garden, the only one who greeted him with a warm smile, and felt a wave of loneliness wash over him. He glanced at the strand of hair in his hand and let out a silent sigh. He had so much he wanted to say to Sarah, but he knew she was the last person who wanted to see him right now.
He stared at Sarah's closed door, contemplating whether or not to knock. He wanted to suggest another paternity test. Victor, a man known for his laziness and gambling addiction, how could he have possibly afforded to pay for Sarah's mother's university? Besides the paternity test, there was no other evidence to suggest he was Sarah's father. Antonio needed to confirm once more if Victor was indeed Sarah's biological father.
But at the moment, Sarah wanted nothing to do with him.
"Perhaps I should wait until the results come back before saying anything," Antonio mused, looking at the strand of hair in his hand.
If the results were the same as last time, it would only prove that he was overthinking things, and there would be no need to reopen Sarah's old wounds. But if the results were different, he would ensure Victor faced the consequences he deserved!
Antonio tapped on the glass of the living room window and poured some dog food from the bin into Century Garden's bowl.
Century Garden wagged his tail happily and trotted over to eat, not forgetting to nuzzle against Antonio.
"I'm off to work," Antonio murmured, patting Century Garden's head. He thought back to two days ago when he had left for work with his three children by his side, Sarah accompanying them.
His heart ached with sorrow, and he left for work, alone.
Antonio swallowed the lump in his throat and departed.
On his way to work, he passed by the identification center. Seizing the opportunity, Antonio submitted Victor's strand of hair. The center already had Sarah's DNA record in their system, which made things more convenient.
Within the confines of the villa, Sarah had retreated to her sanctuary, her room, but found no peace. Once the sound of Antonio's departure echoed through the silent halls, she ventured out of her room.
Her intention was not to head to Valencia Inc., for a call from the hospital had altered her plans. It was Master Jerrett she intended to visit.
The doctor's words still echoed in her mind, painting a grim picture of Master Jerrett's deteriorating health.
His condition, the doctor had warned, was not only failing to improve but was, in fact, worsening. The consequences of neglecting timely treatment could be dire, potentially resulting in a lifelong disability that would confine him to his bed indefinitely.
In the most severe of circumstances, a coma was not out of the question.
Sarah's mind was a whirlpool of worry. How could Alzheimer's alone lead to such a drastic outcome?
With these thoughts plaguing her, she was compelled to seek out more information. She attempted to power on her computer, but it had been left running for several days, and the circuit board was likely fried. Left with no other option, she decided to make use of the study room.
The study was deserted, with Antonio at work and the children lost in their own worlds within their rooms.
Settling into the chair, Sarah powered on the computer, using her birthday as the password.
A wave of melancholy washed over her as she typed in the password. Her heart ached even more when her own image greeted her on the screen.
Antonio's love for her was evident, but love, she mused, should be accompanied by trust.
In a fit of frustration, she clicked aimlessly on the computer, inadvertently opening the surveillance video Antonio had stealthily installed in the study.
The last time he had attempted to access the surveillance, Century Garden had gnawed through the wires. Yet, unbeknownst to her, he had managed to install a new one.
As she watched the surveillance footage, a memory of Antonio's words surfaced.
He had voiced his suspicions about Alex on more than one occasion.
Reflecting on it now, she questioned where the issue with Alex truly lay.
It was Antonio who was driving her to the brink of insanity!
Was she expected to scrutinize every male friend in her life?
Sarah's frustration was mounting; Antonio's suspicions had been a constant presence for far too long.
She had naively believed that Antonio's concerns were solely about Alex deceiving Ethan.
She had been blind to the truth; Antonio's façade had deceived her. He had never truly trusted her.
With a heavy click, Sarah opened the previous surveillance footage.
Hadn't Antonio always harbored suspicions about Alex's intentions towards him?
She was determined to prove both her and Alex's innocence, to show they harbored no ill will.
She would confront Antonio with the surveillance footage and see how he would attempt to justify himself.
Sarah promptly opened the surveillance footage from the day she and Antonio had journeyed to N city.
Initially, everything appeared normal; Harper was merely rummaging through the study.
Then, Harper's face lit up as if she had heard something, and she hastily exited the room.
Soon after, Alex entered the study, gift boxes in tow, with Ethan trailing behind him.
The computer was muted, and Sarah paid no mind to their conversation. However, something about Ethan's appearance in the footage unsettled her.
This disconcerting feeling had lingered for some time, and now, as she watched the footage, her confusion deepened.
After a while of watching the pair without discerning their intentions, Sarah's interest began to wane. It seemed as though Alex was merely explaining the mechanics of the toys to Ethan.
Sarah had no desire to continue watching; if Alex found no issue with the footage, she would trust his judgment.
Just as she was about to shut down the computer, the study room door creaked open once more.
Sarah's eyes widened in shock!
No, Alex was up to something!
