Chapter 364 The Absence of the Madam

Antonio's countenance hardened, a reflection of the tension that had been building within him all day. He had been trailing her, and at last, he had managed to close the distance between them.

Stepping out of his vehicle, Antonio strode briskly towards Sarah.

However, an unexpected encounter halted his approach.

"Excuse me, miss," a man in a suit, his face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and excitement, addressed Sarah. "I'm about to propose to my girlfriend soon. I couldn't help but notice your four beautiful children. Could I ask for a favor?"

Taken aback, Sarah found herself pleasantly surprised. She hadn't anticipated being a part of such a momentous occasion.

"What do you need them to do?" Sarah inquired, curiosity piqued.

"Would you mind having them present a bouquet of flowers to my girlfriend and wish her a happy birthday? And while they're at it, could they also hand her a rose on my behalf?" The sincerity in the man's voice resonated with Sarah, stirring something within her.

"Of course, where should we go? We'll head there right away." Sarah accepted the rose from the man, preparing to guide her children towards the designated location.

The man's gratitude was palpable. "Thank you so much. The restaurant is just up ahead. I truly appreciate your help."

Just as the man was about to lead Sarah and her children to the restaurant, a forceful punch stopped them in their tracks.

"It's you, isn't it? You're Allen, right? You conniving bastard!"

Sarah, startled by the sudden outburst, quickly pulled Antonio away from the man he had just assaulted.

"Antonio, have you lost your mind?" Sarah shouted, the thorns of the rose in her hand slicing into her finger.

Antonio, pointing at the man he had knocked down, retorted, "It's because of him that we're in this mess today!"

"Oh! Honey!"

The man's girlfriend, alerted by the commotion, rushed over to find her boyfriend sprawled on the ground. "Who are you people? Why did you hit my boyfriend? Someone call the police!"

Sarah, in a desperate attempt to defuse the situation, quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, miss. I'm sorry, sir. We'll take you to the hospital right away, and I'll cover any medical costs. I'm truly sorry."

Simultaneously, Brian was on the phone with Alex, arranging for a doctor and a medical team to be dispatched immediately.

Given Sarah's earnest apology, the other party chose not to escalate the situation further. Their meticulously planned proposal had been ruined, but they seemed willing to let it go.

Once the situation was under control, Sarah turned her frustration towards Antonio.

"Antonio, you are too impulsive! Is this your only solution to problems?"

Antonio hadn't anticipated that the man he had attacked was about to propose to his girlfriend. In the heat of the moment, he had acted without thinking.

"I'm sorry, Sarah. I didn't know it would turn out like this. I didn't expect him..."

"And how did you know I would be here?" Sarah's eyes welled up with tears, her voice barely a whisper. She knew the answer all too well.

Antonio struggled to find the right words, his lips forming a tight line. "I... I..."

He couldn't bring himself to say it.

"I can't..."

"Can't say it, huh? Let me do it for you," Sarah interjected bitterly. "You've been following me, watching my every move. That's how you knew where I was, that's how you managed to ruin someone's proposal without a second thought."

"Sarah, please let me explain, I had no choice..."

"Enough, you control freak. I don't want to see you anymore."

Control freak...

The words echoed in Antonio's mind, a harsh reality he was only just beginning to comprehend.

Sarah was right. He had been tracking her, surveilling her every move. How was that any different from being a control freak?

Sarah departed, herding the four children away from their home, and all Antonio could do was stand rooted to the spot, watching their diminishing figures until they disappeared from sight.

In the ensuing two days, Antonio found solace in his work, pushing himself to the brink of exhaustion. His office became his sanctuary and his prison, a place where he could lose himself in his responsibilities, rarely venturing beyond its confines.

His assistant, a constant presence at his side, grew increasingly concerned for Antonio's wellbeing. He contemplated reaching out to Sarah, but her phone remained stubbornly silent, its power switched off.

Sarah's whereabouts remained a mystery, leaving them with no other option but to abandon their attempts to contact her.

"Sir, there's a flight scheduled for seven tomorrow morning. You really should try to get some rest," the assistant suggested, rapping gently on the office door. The clock had already struck half past midnight, and without sufficient rest, Antonio risked suffering from a debilitating headache during the flight.

Rubbing his weary forehead, Antonio responded, "I'm aware. Have our belongings been packed?"

Caught off guard, the assistant hesitated. "Isn't Madam away on vacation?"

"Have our belongings been packed?" Antonio repeated, his tone leaving no room for further questions.

"Yes, they're ready," the assistant confirmed, deciding it was best not to probe further. He quickly retreated, leaving Antonio alone once more.

Setting aside the document he had been perusing, Antonio heaved a sigh heavy with exhaustion and frustration. He yearned for the comfort of sleep, but every time he closed his eyes, the image of Sarah haunted him, robbing him of any chance for peaceful slumber.

And so, he spent the night in restless anticipation, arriving at the airport as the dawn broke, ready for the journey ahead.

"Sir, it's almost time for boarding. We should head to the waiting area," the assistant suggested, glancing at his watch with a sense of urgency.

Yet Antonio remained immobile by the boarding gate, his gaze fixed on the horizon. "Madam hasn't arrived yet."

The assistant held his tongue, but a sinking feeling of dread settled in his stomach. If Sarah hadn't even collected her plane ticket, what were the chances of her appearing at the airport in time?
