Chapter 698 Another Paternity Test
Sarah was meeting Harold, the head of the Harrington family, for the first time.
She politely nodded at him and then prepared to leave.
Harold looked at Sarah and could see traces of Kevin in her bright face.
For a moment, a deep hatred flashed in his otherwise calm eyes, though he hid it well.
He said to Sarah, "I've heard that Ms. Miller is quite impressive. Seeing you today, Ms. Miller, you indeed have an extraordinary presence."
Sarah stopped in her tracks, somewhat surprised that he spoke to her.
Since Harold had initiated the conversation, it would be inappropriate not to respond.
"Mr. Harold Harrington, you flatter me. You are the role model we young people should learn from."
From Benjamin's reaction earlier, she could guess that things here were not simple.
Harold humbly waved his hand and chuckled. "Our thinking can never keep up with you young people. The future belongs to you."
Sarah smiled. "You are very modest."
"I'm just telling the truth," he replied.
Harold sighed lightly, appearing as approachable as any ordinary elder. "You must have interacted with Benjamin, right? You young people should get along well."
There was a hint of scrutiny and probing in his eyes.
Sarah shook her head calmly and said, "Mr. Benjamin Harrington and I don't have much interaction, only work-related exchanges. Maybe our personalities aren't suited for friendship."
She shrugged, as if to say, "You know what I mean."
Harold seemed amused by her demeanor.
"Benjamin has never faced many setbacks since he was young. Sometimes, he can be a bit impatient. Ms. Miller, please be more understanding," Harold said.
Sarah quickly shook her head and said, "You overestimate me."
Meanwhile, she thought, 'I had indeed been understanding of him.'
Otherwise, with all the things Benjamin had done, she should have called the police countless times!
Harold didn't dwell on the issue but instead asked with apparent concern, "How is your father Kevin's health now? He should be recovering well, right?"
Sarah was taken aback and smiled awkwardly. "Yes, thank you for your concern."
'How does he know about my family's situation?' she thought.
Thinking of this, Sarah cast a suspicious glance at his face, trying to discern something.
But Harold was not a man who could be easily read.
His expression remained calm, purely concerned, as he continued, "At his age, it's good to take this opportunity to retire early. But he should take good care of himself from now on."
The tone of his last sentence made Sarah feel a bit uneasy.
Before she could think further, a drunken guest suddenly staggered over and bumped into Harold, spilling wine all over his arm and soaking his leather gloves.
The person, realizing their mistake, sobered up slightly. "Sorry! Are you okay?"
Harold's face darkened, but he tried hard to hide his emotions, saying coldly, "Be careful. You might not be so lucky if you bump into someone else!"
The person quickly apologized and left.
The two of them were standing in a corner of the hallway, with no one around.
Sarah couldn't ignore it and said softly, "Mr. Harold Harrington, perhaps you should go and take care of that?"
Harold's jaw tightened, his muscles twitching slightly. He used all his strength to suppress his anger, lightly pressing his lips together. "It's not a big deal."
He irritably shook off the wine from his arm, which had also soaked into his black leather gloves.
Sarah noticed and suggested, "Your gloves might not be wearable for now."
Upon hearing that, a strange look flashed in Harold's downcast eyes, and he casually removed the gloves, appearing calm.
Sarah hesitated whether to offer him a tissue, but when she looked up, she was a bit startled.
She had always wondered why Harold wore leather gloves all the time, even indoors.
Who would have thought that his left hand only had two fingers!
The three missing fingers were uneven, with obvious post-traumatic growths, looking grotesque and terrifying!
It seemed as if those three fingers had been chopped off!
Sarah's face turned pale, and she involuntarily took a step back.
"Mr. Harold Harrington, you should go and take care of that." She suppressed the churning in her stomach and looked away. "I have some other matters to attend to, so I'll take my leave. Thank you for your hospitality."After that, she quickly turned and left, her steps slightly unsteady.
Harold watched her back, a cold smile forming on his lips.
After a while, he also turned and left.
...
Sarah quickly left the party and got into her car.
She patted her chest in relief, trying to shake off the image of that terrifying hand from her mind.
'Why was Harold so strange?' she thought.
Sarah thought she had no connection with him, yet he had approached her and seemed to know a great deal about Kevin's situation.
Everything tonight felt premeditated.
But she couldn't worry about that for now.
She took a deep breath, opened her purse, and took out a tissue-wrapped bundle containing a few strands of hair.
It was Benjamin's hair!
Sarah's mood improved, and she smiled.
She had kissed Benjamin deliberately and grabbed his hair—not out of impulse, but with intention! She needed to lower his guard to get his hair.
Once the DNA test was done, the truth would come out!
Sarah suppressed her excitement, carefully put away the hair, and immediately drove home.
...
Ethan was playing soccer at the door and ran over excitedly when he saw her. "Mommy, you're back?!"
"Yes, I'm back!" Sarah was in a great mood, looking radiant.
Ethan was about to ask what good thing had happened when Sarah suddenly squatted down, looking mischievous. "Ethan, I need to take something from you. It might hurt a bit, so bear with it, okay?"
"What, ah!" Ethan blinked, not reacting before feeling a sharp pain.
Sarah felt a bit guilty and asked, "Did it hurt?"
"No." Ethan shook his head, curious about her actions, asking, "Mommy, why did you pull my hair?"
