Chapter 914 You Said You Donated a Kidney?
Sarah was so nervous that her heart felt like it was about to jump out of her chest. She casually said, "It's okay, I'll be taking a car soon."
She glanced down; Antonio, lying on the hospital bed, looked in good spirits. Although his cheeks were much thinner, he was as handsome as ever.
"Why did you have to video call me? The light is so strong, I can't even see the screen." Sarah added.
"I miss you." Antonio's magnetic voice spoke sweetly, "I wanted to see you."
Sarah licked her lips but couldn't muster any other thoughts, only wanting to end the video call quickly. "Now that you've seen me, can you hang up? I still need to catch a car."
"Are you in such a hurry?" Antonio looked at Sarah's face on the screen, feeling a bit puzzled.
Sarah's camera was steady, clearly not on the move.
But since she had stopped to take his video call, why didn't she lift the phone to look at him?
Sarah hurriedly said, "It's hard to get any news about Eden's whereabouts. How can I not be in a hurry? Alright, I won't say more. My mind is all on Eden right now, I don't have time to comfort you. You take care of yourself, I'm hanging up."
She hung up as soon as she said it.
Antonio stared blankly at his phone, unable to believe Sarah had just dismissed him like that.
But he could also see that Sarah seemed to be in a good state. As long as she could recover her health, everything else wasn't as important; things would get better.
He still remembered the scene when Sarah had a memory lapse; he didn't dare to push her too hard.
Antonio sighed and decided to stay in the hospital and wait for Sarah to come back.
At night, Antonio couldn't sleep due to the pain from his incision, so Byron gave him some sedatives and painkillers to help him sleep.
It was only then that Sarah dared to come and see Antonio.
The door to the ward opened, and inside was a peaceful darkness. Sarah turned to look at the nurse who was helping push her wheelchair and whispered, "Thank you, you can go back now. I can manage on my own later."
The nurse nodded and thoughtfully closed the door before leaving.
The ward instantly fell silent. Sarah's hand on the armrest tightened slightly, and she maneuvered the wheelchair to the bedside.
She still couldn't walk normally. During the day, she almost pulled her wound while taking Antonio's video call.
It wasn't just Antonio who missed her; she missed him a lot too. They had only been apart for a few days, but it felt like a long, long time.
"Antonio." As soon as she spoke, tears welled up in Sarah's eyes, and overwhelming emotions flooded her—relief, guilt, heartache, and endless longing.
Antonio was sleeping deeply, completely unaware.
Sarah lifted his blanket and carefully checked his incision, which was healing well.
'That's great, he's finally getting better.' She thought.
Sarah slowly reached out, her eyes full of affection as she touched his cheek. "Antonio, during the days we haven't seen each other, you must eat well, take your medicine, and sleep well to get better, okay? If you don't say anything, I'll take it as a yes."
Antonio's handsome face was softened by the night, as if silently responding to her.
Sarah, with tears streaming down her face, couldn't help but smile. She moved closer, placing his hand on her face, as if she could feel his heartbeat. "I didn't mean to leave you, nor did I mean to deceive you. I'm sorry."
"Only now do I understand your good intentions and realize how unreasonable I was before. You must have been very sad then. It's all my fault."
"From now on, I'll make it up to you. I'll love you seriously."
"When we both get out of the hospital healthy, I'll tell you everything. Just wait a little longer, okay?"
She spoke intermittently, and in his sleep, Antonio seemed to hear her confession, a faint smile appearing on his lips, full of affection.
"I have to go now." Sarah sniffled, afraid that if she stayed longer, he would wake up. She kissed the back of his hand, "Be good, good night."
After saying that, she carefully tucked him in and reluctantly left the room.
To Antonio, it was like a dream, or not even a dream. He only remembered that his beloved Sarah had said many things, each word hitting his soft spot, making him love her even more.
When he woke up, everything was blurry yet real.
He could barely remember what she had said.
Antonio looked at the vast sky outside the window and sighed heavily, wondering when these days of separation would end.
He took out his phone and repeatedly read the messages Sarah had sent.
She said the place she was going had a poor signal, so she might not be able to contact him often. She told him not to worry about her and to focus on recovering.
Sarah was gone, and now even hearing her voice was a luxury.
But Antonio was very obedient. For the next two days, he was in high spirits, cooperating with his medication and check-ups like never before.
Byron was right; his physical condition was excellent, and since he showed no signs of rejection, he could soon get out of bed and move around.
"Mr. Valencia, walking a bit will help your recovery. If you feel bored, you can try moving around. But stay within your physical limits and don't overdo it." Byron reminded.
Antonio had been lying in bed for a long time, so he was naturally happy to hear this news and smiled in thanks.
Once he recovered, he could go find Sarah, couldn't he?
He sat up in bed, eager to try walking. "Hugo, could you please bring me my shoes?"
"Sure!" Caregiver Hugo Graves was also happy for him and quickly fetched the shoes from the cabinet. "Mr. Valencia, would you like me to accompany you?"
"No need." Antonio held his waist with one hand, the pain still within bearable limits as he moved. "I'll just go for a walk by myself. You can take a break."
"Alright, but please be careful."
Without saying more, Antonio cautiously walked out of the ward.
Maybe it was because he hadn't walked in a long time, but his leg muscles felt a bit numb. Antonio walked slowly, taking a while to get used to it.
Although he was wearing hospital clothes, his tall and elegant posture exuded a noble and superior aura. Combined with his handsome face, it was clear he was someone of high status, attracting frequent glances in the hallway.
Not far away, a skinny teenager also saw him, his eyes instantly showing a complex expression.
He recognized Antonio!
These days, almost all the doctors and nurses had been going in and out of Antonio's ward, looking very serious. Curious, he had eavesdropped and learned that Antonio was an important person in that room, having just undergone a kidney transplant and needing extra care.
Why should Antonio get special treatment just because he's important? Is being rich so great?
The teenager, who had grown up poor, despised such privileged people!
He smirked, a sudden idea flashing in his mind, his eyes showing a hint of malice. He pretended to be weak and walked forward, hugging himself.
As he passed by Antonio, he "accidentally" bumped into him and fell to the ground.
"Ouch, ah!" His cry was weak and pained, barely attracting any attention from those around him.
Antonio was also hurt by the impact, his face paling for a moment, but he endured the pain and stepped forward to help. "Are you okay?"
"No, I'm fine." The teenager looked very pained, bending over. "I'm sorry, sir, I didn't mean to bump into you."
Antonio frowned, helping him to a nearby seat. "It's not your fault. I was also distracted and not paying attention. You seem to be in a lot of pain. Do you need a doctor?"
He had indeed been thinking about Sarah and hadn't noticed someone approaching. The teenager looked too thin, and malnourished.
The teenager's smile was pale. "No need."
He sighed nonchalantly, "I've been lying in bed for many days. Today is my first time getting up, but I'm used to this kind of pain. I donated a kidney, and the doctor said this stabbing pain would continue for a while."
Antonio was stunned, "What? You said you donated a kidney?"
