Chapter 701 Be My Lover
It seemed reasonable to Sarah when she thought about it this way.
Sarah, though aching for Antonio and undeniably overjoyed at the knowledge of his survival, felt utterly exhausted.
She thought, 'What good will it do to ask more questions? What difference will knowing the answers make?
'Or rather, will the answers Antonio provides be what I want to hear?'
At that very moment, Sarah found herself wishing she didn't know the truth, that she could just wait and see when Antonio would finally tell her.
Antonio, meeting her silent gaze, felt his heart go through a tumultuous spin.
He gripped Sarah's hand tightly, asking with care, "Are you feeling unwell? Should we get the doctor to check you again? Is your stomach bothering you?"
By the end of his questions, he was flustered, unsure whether to touch her or not.
Seeing his eyes fixated on her abdomen, treating it like a fragile treasure he might accidentally harm, Sarah knew—this was him.
This was Antonio.
Her calmness surprised even her; tears threatened to spill as her nose tingled, and she quickly lowered her eyes.
All her emotions were hidden behind her lowered lashes.
She pulled her hand away and tossed the covers aside.
"I'm a bit tired."
Sarah almost said his name but stopped herself. Adjusting her tone, she continued, "You must be tired from coming all this way too. Why don't you come up and rest with me?"
Now that she knew his true identity, she didn't mind at all.
As for the chaos of everything else, she didn't want to think about it at all.
All she wanted was this. "Will you, can you, hold me while I sleep?"
He thought, 'No wonder she felt so comforted the night I sneaked back to the villa. It all makes sense now!'
'Back then, I thought it was Brian who let me in, but it is clear now that isn't the case!'
'I'm Antonio, of course I could unlock the fingerprint lock!Sarah wants me to hold her?'
'Why?'
'Just a moment ago, she didn't want to see me at all and even avoided being friends with me. Why this sudden change?'
But Antonio wasn't about to pass up a chance to be close to Sarah. With a quick nod, he climbed into bed.
Sarah willingly settled against his chest, listening to the strong beat of his heart, almost brought to tears again.
He was really alive.
What could be more important than that?
Antonio, too, was overwhelmed, feeling a mix of excitement and joy. This was the first time in a long while they were both fully awake, lying together, wrapped in each other's arms.
The thrill in his chest was uncontrollable.
He really missed her.
Holding her a bit tighter, Antonio hesitated for a moment before voicing his question, "Sarah, why?"
He swallowed hard, searching for the right words. "Why?"
Sarah lifted her head, her gaze piercing into him, her silence heavy with unspoken words. Under her intense stare, Antonio felt exposed and uneasy. He averted his eyes, struggling to find his words. "What I meant was, what did you mean by what you said earlier?"
When she saw his bewildered expression, Sarah's frustration flared up. "What else could it mean?"
She thought, 'If he is truly planning to start a new life with his new identity, why keep harassing me?' She shoved Antonio's chest and snapped, "Forget it! Get off!"
Her sudden outburst took Antonio aback. Still holding her, he spoke softly, "Sarah, please don't be upset."
She was practically furious!
Sarah's anger had nowhere to go, compounded by a feeling of helpless exhaustion, even though she now knew the full truth. She took a deep breath and said, almost in a rush, "You asked what I meant? It means I'm tired, and your previous suggestion seems pretty good to me now."
Antonio's confusion deepened. "What suggestion?"
"To be your lover!" Sarah blurted out, surprising herself with the bluntness of her confession.
Seeing Antonio's stunned reaction, she smirked and continued, "Mr. Harrington, didn't you say you liked me and wanted to be with me? I'm agreeing now. Let's be together—keep it a secret from everyone else!"
The last part, she said through gritted teeth.
She thought, 'He has a fiancée, doesn't he? He likes to keep things hidden, doesn't he?'
'Fine, let's add a little excitement!'
Antonio was utterly unprepared for Sarah's sudden and bold declaration.
His defenses shattered in an instant. His lips trembled, but he was at a loss for words, unable to reject what she had just proposed, even though he was unwilling to accept it.
He thought, 'What right do I have to refuse? This is all my fault!'
Because he had fallen into Harold's trap, losing all his memories.
During his time as "Benjamin," he had done so much harm to Sarah.
Even after falling in love with her again, while still having no memory, he hadn't let go of his supposed fiancée, Isabella. He continued to harass Sarah under this pretense, never showing her the respect she deserved. His actions had been nothing short of despicable.
Looking back now, he wanted to punch himself!
Regret washed over him in waves.
But the damage was done.
Antonio covered his face with his hands, not wanting Sarah to see his desolate expression. After a moment, he looked up, his voice soft and hoarse.
"Sarah, I know I've done so many things wrong and hurt you deeply. I'm here to offer you a sincere apology. I promise to make amends with my actions from now on. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?"
His tone was gentle and sincere.
Sarah almost believed him!
She pressed her lips together, fighting back the tears, and after a long pause, she said, "I meant what I said. Mr. Harrington, you might want to think it over."
Antonio looked for any sign of jest on her face, but found none.
He thought, 'Could Sarah really want to be with Benjamin?'
The thought sent a jolt of panic through him. He stumbled for words, testing the waters. "But I remember you saying before that you only loved Antonio?"
Hearing this, Sarah couldn't help but let out a cold laugh inwardly. 'Now he's in a rush to understand? Does he really think I'd never move on? So he thinks he can play another role and watch me struggle?'
Sarah, still angry, sneered, "What good is love? He's gone. Should I spend my life single because of that?"
Her frustration grew, but she controlled her tone well. "Life goes on. I need to find a stepfather for my kids anyway. Might as well practice with you!"
