Chapter 137 As Long as I'm Here, No One Can Hurt You
That year, after Antonio swooped in and saved Sarah at the bar, she kept running into him there..
And every time she was hustling drinks, he'd buy 'em all up.
What used to be a tough gig got way easier with Antonio's help, and Sarah was super grateful.
Of course, the best part was that with Antonio around, no one dared to mess with her anymore.
Until one night, this rich dude named David Morrison used the excuse of buying a drink to grab Sarah's wrist and wouldn't let go.
Seeing David's sleazy grin, Sarah felt totally grossed out.
But David was a customer, and she couldn't afford to piss him off, so she tried to keep her cool and pull her hand back.
David, though, was being a total creep and even suggested she join him in a private room for a drink.
Sarah was instantly freaked out, tears of fear streaming down her face.
Just when she was feeling totally desperate, a man's hand suddenly reached over and grabbed David's wrist hard.
The whitened knuckles and bulging veins on that hand screamed pure rage.
"Let her go!" Hearing this cold, stern voice, Sarah immediately knew who it was. She turned her head, looking gratefully and excitedly at Antonio.
He really came to save her!
Antonio, like some kind of hero, saved her from danger time and time again.
Right now, Antonio was in a seriously bad mood, his cold and handsome face tense, and his deep eyes shooting out a deadly glare, like he wanted to kill David for harassing Sarah.
"It hurts!" David grimaced in pain and had to let go under the immense pressure.
But instead of backing down, he glared at Antonio and shouted, "Who the hell are you? How dare you ruin my fun! I'll beat you up."
The surrounding customers had already backed away, not wanting to get involved.
Sarah couldn't help but worry about Antonio.
If a fight broke out, she feared Antonio would get hurt.
She didn't want Antonio to suffer any harm because of her.
Antonio, though, didn't care at all. He let out a disdainful snort, his sharp gaze almost piercing through the troublemaker. "You can try."
Hearing this, David was furious, his eyebrows furrowed and teeth clenched. He shouted, "Fine! But you're lucky, I don't like violence."
David thought for a moment, then looked Antonio up and down again, a sly grin spreading across his face. "Race me, do you dare?"
Sarah was a bit confused. It was the first time she heard someone suggest a race to settle a fight, and she couldn't help but cast a worried glance at Antonio.
Antonio was also looking in her direction.
He gave Sarah a reassuring smile, but with his messy hair and the flickering lights, it seemed a bit mischievous.
Sarah's heartbeat suddenly quickened.
Antonio looked away and coldly said to David, "I'm just afraid you won't dare."
They were at odds, and Sarah, feeling uneasy, followed them to a secluded and empty racing club, only then understanding what they meant by "race."
Starting from opposite ends of the road, the two cars would drive towards each other, and the first to swerve would lose.
If neither swerved, it was gonna be a total disaster.
When Sarah realized this, her heart sank, and her face went pale.
He was actually gonna risk his life against David!
Sarah instinctively grabbed Antonio's arm tightly. "Don't go!"
The next second, she saw Antonio lower his head, looking into her eyes. His deep eyes were incredibly gentle, yet filled with determination and confidence.
"Trust me. Wait here for me to come back." Antonio left these words and then got into the car without hesitation.
Sarah stood there, watching him leave, her emotions all over the place—worry, fear, guilt, and dread.
She wanted to stop him, but she ultimately chose to trust him.
She stood by the roadside, watching the two cars drive towards each other, their speed increasing, but neither showing any intention of swerving.
Both cars had their accelerators floored, and in a few seconds, they would collide!
Sarah's heart was in her throat as the wind roared past. She couldn't help but hug herself tightly, praying they would stop.
She regretted it!
She shouldn't have let him go!
If he really got into an accident, she would never forgive herself for the rest of her life!
Sarah closed her eyes in despair, not daring to look, only praying in her heart for Antonio's safety.
However, the next second, just as the two cars were only a few feet apart, David's car suddenly swerved and crashed into a tree by the roadside.
Antonio's car, on the other hand, slowly decelerated and finally came to a steady stop in the middle of the track.
David scrambled out of his car, scared out of his wits, and ran away in a panic.
Sarah had no interest in David; her eyes were fixed on Antonio's car.
It wasn't until she saw Antonio calmly open the car door and step out that she couldn't quite discern her own thoughts; her legs reacted before her mind could.
She ran towards Antonio, throwing herself into his arms and hugging him tightly. He also opened his arms and held her firmly.
In that moment, Sarah felt his warmth, her frantic heart taking a while to find its place again, confirming her feelings for him.
Then, she heard his deep, gentle, and firm voice above her head, "As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you."
Thinking of this, Sarah couldn't help but show a self-mocking smile.
Her delicate face showed a look of helplessness and sarcasm.
It seemed to carry a hint of sadness.
Her originally clear and bright eyes instantly became dull and lifeless, filled with an inextricable gloom.
Years later, when Sarah recalled that period, she could still feel the excitement of the time, but at the same time, her heart also felt intense pain.
Back then, his tenderness and protection, his confession and promises, now seemed like nothing but a joke.
Maybe back then, he was just playing around.
After marrying her, he got bored and turned to seek the next romantic venture.
Only she foolishly saw him as her destiny, , clinging to that failed marriage and refusing to give up.
