Chapter 469 Antonio in Trouble?!
Meanwhile, dozens of kilometers away at the CL racetrack,
"Mommy, can I hide your ring here?" Harper pointed at a race car not too far away—the very one Sarah was about to drive.
Sarah nodded. "Can our Harper please place the ring in the car?"
Harper nodded back, took the ring, and climbed into the car. As soon as Antonio sat in it later, he would be able to see it.
"Mommy, look at this, the scrapbook we made will be played back here through the projector, how about that?" Ethan held a remote control, pointing at a screen surrounded by starlight.
This had been specially designed by Brian, and the screen was specially made just for displaying the scrapbook the kids had put together.
Sarah smiled. "You're amazing, sweetheart."
"Sarah, can you check the placement of these stuffed animals? Later, we'll be hiding among them, and you just have to drive the car into the middle of us," Ryan called from beneath the screen, with several plush toys styled after the children's cartoon likenesses.
When Sarah drove Antonio to the specified spot in the race car, the kids would be crouched inside the plush toys. Once the scrapbook finished playing, they would jump out from among them.
"That's wonderful, but remember to keep it safe, okay? Make sure to leave the air vents open."
"Don't worry, Mommy. We've arranged everything! You should go change now and get used to the race car," encouraged the children.
Brian had already arranged for everything to be set up; they were just fine-tuning the details.
Sarah gazed at the children, her heart swelling with emotions. She was certain that when Antonio beheld this scene later, he too would be deeply moved.
Before long, Sarah changed into her racing suit and had prepared matching outfits for Antonio as well. Everything was ready; all that was left was for Antonio to arrive.
The children, filled with excitement, hid among the plush toys, eagerly anticipating Antonio's arrival. Yet, as time slipped by, Sarah glanced at her watch and realized that half an hour had elapsed since their agreed meeting time, with still no sign of Antonio.
"Is work keeping him that busy?" Sarah murmured quietly to herself.
Another half hour slipped by, and the initial excitement and anticipation began to turn into worry and doubt.
Sarah had called Antonio more than a dozen times with no answer, leaving her no choice but to call his office.
James, surprised, answered the phone. "Madam, Mr. Valencia hasn't come to the office today. Doesn't he have an appointment with you? He told me about it earlier."
A bad feeling flickered through Sarah's heart. If Antonio hadn't gone to the office, where could he be? He had no reason to deceive her.
Harper pouted sadly. "Mommy, isn't Daddy coming?"
"Of course, he is. Daddy must have been delayed by something. Mommy is calling to check on him. You all must stay hidden. Maybe Daddy is somewhere around watching us," Sarah said with a forced smile, finding it hard to convince even herself with such an explanation.
At present, her sole focus was on comforting the children, shielding them from her own anxious thoughts.
Harper nodded, while Ethan and Ryan remained silent. Sarah tried calling again, but still, there was no answer.
Brian couldn't help himself anymore. "I'm going to track his location."
Antonio's phone wasn't turned off, and Brian quickly pinpointed his location. But when he saw where Antonio was, his expression changed instantly. "Mommy, Daddy's location is at a hotel."
"What!?" Sarah's heart seemed to skip a beat, but she kept her composure. "He might have been held up by a business deal. Brian, you take care of your siblings. Leave everything else to Mommy, okay?"
Brian nodded. "Don't worry, Mommy. If anything happens, you have to tell me."
"Alright."
Without wasting another moment, Sarah made sure the children were settled and then rushed off to the hotel.
…
Sarah arrived at the hotel entrance, her heart pounding uncontrollably and sweat dampening her palms. She sensed something was amiss.
Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, she approached the reception desk to inquire about Antonio's whereabouts.
However, the staff seemed hesitant to disclose any information, intensifying Sarah's anxiety.
As Sarah found herself in a stalemate with the receptionist, the hotel manager overheard the commotion and approached. Casting a glance at Sarah, he recognized her and asked, "Can I help you?"
Upon hearing the question, Sarah turned around quickly and said, "Hello, my husband is Antonio Valencia. Could you please take me to him?"
The manager offered a polite smile. "Of course, this way, please."
Heartened by his response, Sarah hurriedly followed the manager's lead. They took the elevator and stopped in front of a door to a lounge.
Sarah hesitated for a moment; for some reason, she was afraid to push the door open.
Once the manager excused himself, Sarah thanked him and turned her attention to the daunting door of the lounge. With a deep breath, she braced herself. Then, in the next instant, she pushed the door open!
