Chapter 212: What is Sarah's Background?
Antonio leaned in closer, his gaze seductive. Sarah slowly tiptoed and left a shallow yet warm kiss on Antonio's lips. Just as she was about to pull away, the office door swung open.
James stood at the doorway, wearing a bewildered expression.
Antonio's face instantly darkened.
James' legs trembled; he had momentarily forgotten to knock in his excitement over the promotion. Little did he expect...
Goodness, the President and his wife are so affectionate. He had only gone out to find someone to tidy up the desk, and these two could hardly be separated!
Sarah quickly adjusted her hair, coughed lightly, and distanced herself from Antonio.
James lowered his gaze and respectfully reported that the President's assistant's office outside had been arranged.
Sarah hurriedly followed James out, fleeing as if running away.
Antonio gazed at Sarah's departing figure, his thoughts lingering on the moment when she had been nestled in his arms. Now, he would be left alone in the empty office and couldn't help but grit his teeth in frustration.
...
Five years ago, Sarah had actually visited Antonio's company a few times.
As she passed through the office area, several older female employees kept staring at Sarah, feeling like they recognized her face.
James introduced Sarah to the others, announcing that she was the newly appointed President's assistant.
Afterward, people came one after another to engage in conversation with her.
Sarah felt somewhat overwhelmed by their enthusiasm and sensed traces of suspicion in their probing questions.
But since she had decided to come to Antonio's company, she had already prepared herself for this.
Sarah worked at her desk for a while and began to feel thirsty, so she got up and went to the pantry.
Inside, a few employees were chatting, but they fell silent as soon as they saw her. Sarah paid no attention to their reaction.
"Oh, so you're Sarah. Hello, I'm Lily, nice to meet you."
The most popular employee took the initiative to greet Sarah, although her eyes rudely scrutinized her from head to toe.
Sarah responded with a slight smile, "Hello, nice to meet you too."
"You're quite impressive, starting as the President's secretary right after joining the company. I wonder how you managed to achieve that. Could you give us some pointers?" Lily's tone sounded bitter.
Sarah calmly replied, "I'm not entirely sure myself, but Mr. Valencia's personnel appointments are all carefully considered. Don't you agree?"
Who would dare to disagree!
Lily pursed her lips, still displaying her lack of tact, "So, do you know the President personally? That's why he's more aware of your abilities, right?"
How could Sarah not catch onto her underlying meaning?
A faint glint of coldness flashed in her eyes, but she quickly composed herself when she raised her head.
"Of course, I know him. Mr. Valencia, a well-known figure. Who doesn't know him? As for my abilities, everyone will come to know them through our work together."
With that, she turned and left.
Within seconds, she heard the person behind her stomp their foot in anger.
"Who are you trying to fool? It's obvious that you climbed up the ranks through an inappropriate relationship with Mr. Valencia! Do you think you're all that just because of your looks?"
Despite feeling displeased, Sarah didn't want to cause trouble on her first day at work, so she decided to endure it.
But little did anyone know, James outside the pantry had overheard everything.
Sarah could tolerate it, but she didn't want to listen to someone making up stories about the CEO and his wife!
With a stern face, James walked in, furrowing his brows. He actually had a somewhat intimidating presence.
"This is a company, please watch your words! In this company, only abilities matter. If you have a problem with that, why don't you compare your performance in the past six months with others? And do you even know that?"
Sarah interrupted him before he could finish his sentence.
She didn't want to expose her relationship with Antonio!
James then realized that he had nearly exposed the identity of the CEO's wife, so he quickly smiled and tried to please Sarah.
Seeing James behaving so obsequiously, Lily couldn't hide her reluctance and indignation. But since James had just been promoted, she had to reluctantly swallow her discontent.
This small incident in the pantry quickly spread throughout the whole company.
People became even more curious about Sarah's background.
"Who is she? Even the secretary is speaking up for her."
"She's not ordinary. Let's be careful not to offend her..."
Sarah finished a cup of Harper's hot cocoa, dispersing the pent-up frustration in her heart, and returned to her desk, redoubling her efforts.
With so many people waiting to see her fail, she had to use her abilities to prove that she deserved this position.
She did it not only for herself but also to live up to Antonio's trust.
But there were always people causing trouble, distracting her.
Antonio would occasionally contact her through the office line, just to make his presence felt.
Even something as small as finding an imported chocolate in her desk would be used to create an air of mystery, making Sarah curious.
The internal line rang again, and Sarah couldn't help but smirk.
It was a bit of sweet trouble...
But since it was her first day at work, she forgave Antonio, knowing he must be excited.
If Antonio continued to act this way in the future, Sarah would definitely knock his head with a folder!
She walked into the CEO's office with the documents that Antonio asked her to print, intentionally putting on a slightly angry face.
"Mr. Valencia, please stop using your position for personal gains..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Antonio pulled her into his embrace.
"Using my position for personal gains? Then tell me, what am I gaining from you? Since Secretary Jiang has brought it up to this extent, if I don't actually gain something, wouldn't it damage the reputation of a capitalist like me?"
His voice was low, husky, and sexy.
Sarah's heart couldn't help but race again, and her cheeks flushed.
An ambiguous atmosphere gradually filled the enclosed space.
But soon, a sharp female voice from outside interrupted this harmony.
"Let me in, I have something very important to report to Mr. Valencia!"
