Chapter 149 That Night Was Just an Accident

"Yo, what are you doing here?" Antonio's voice was ice-cold as he fiddled with his collar.

Lisa, standing outside the door, caught the shift in Antonio's vibe and the frostiness in his tone. Her hand, hanging by her side, started to shake a bit.

But she was here now, no turning back.

Lisa's eyes darted to Antonio's neck, and she forced a weak smile. "Antonio,Ryan wants to see you. He can't even eat without seeing you. I'm worried about him, so I brought him over."

She nudged Ryan forward and gave his shoulder a little squeeze.

Ryan got the hint and looked up, his voice barely a whisper, "Daddy, I miss you."

Antonio's gaze softened when he saw Ryan's pale face, a flicker of pity in his eyes.

Ryan still needed time to get better and needed someone around.

Antonio sighed, almost too quiet to hear, and ruffled Ryan's hair before picking him up.

"Ryan, you know you gotta eat well to get better, right?" Antonio said, carrying him inside.

Lisa's eyes lit up as her plan seemed to work, and she quickly followed them in.

Antonio acted like she wasn't even there, sitting on the couch and soothing Ryan.

Lisa took the chance to scan the room, even peeking into the bedroom.

No sign of any women's stuff. She felt a bit relieved.

She plopped down next to Antonio on the couch, flashing what she thought was a charming smile. "Antonio, Ryan talked about you all day yesterday. Now that he's seen you, he looks so much better!"

But Antonio didn't even glance at her, making her smile falter.

A calculating look crossed her face, and she pressed on, "Ryan's always been frail, and this time he almost... Thank God he made it. He's all I have. If I lost him, I don't know what I'd do."

Antonio's face darkened, and he stayed silent.

Lisa, still not getting a response, bit her lip and pushed further, "Antonio, didn't you say you'd explain things to me and Ryan? What...?"

"It's over," Antonio cut her off, his tone icy.

Lisa's face went rigid, anger bubbling up inside her.

She knew it. He was just stringing her along at the hospital!

He never planned to make Sarah's kids apologize!

Antonio was still on Sarah's side.

Lisa felt a chill run through her and glared at Ryan in Antonio's arms, seething with rage.

Right then, Lisa blamed all of Antonio's favoritism towards Sarah on Ryan, her eyes growing more and more vicious.

Ryan caught Lisa's glare and started shaking, instinctively gripping Antonio's hand tighter. 'Why is Lisa looking at me like that? Did I mess up again?' he thought.

Antonio felt Ryan trembling and gently patted his back. "What's wrong, buddy?"

"Nothing," Ryan mumbled, looking down, too scared to admit he was afraid of Lisa.

Antonio frowned, about to dig deeper, but Lisa cut in, "Antonio, you must be really worried about Ryan's injury. We need to get justice for him as his parents."

"Enough," Antonio snapped, his voice sharp and full of irritation.

He was done listening to her nonsense.

If it weren't for Ryan, he wouldn't even be this patient with Lisa.

Just then, James showed up outside the door. Seeing it slightly open, he looked puzzled. Did Antonio leave the door open for him?

James had never gotten this kind of treatment before. He knocked carefully and asked, "Mr. Valencia, can I come in?"

"Come in," Antonio's cold voice replied, carrying a hint of tension.

With his years of experience, James sensed something was off with Antonio's mood and reminded himself to tread lightly as he pushed the door open.

But when he saw Lisa, it all clicked.

So, Antonio was pissed because of her.

Before James could say anything, Antonio shot him a cold look, then gently placed Ryan on the ground. "Ryan, go play with James. I'll come find you later."

"Okay," Ryan nodded, obediently.

James saw that Antonio wanted to talk to Lisa alone, so he quickly took Ryan's hand and said, "Let's go, buddy!"

As Ryan and James left, Antonio's face darkened again, his cold gaze locking onto Lisa.

For years, Lisa had been using Ryan to manipulate him.

He had put up with it, not because he was powerless, but for Ryan's sake.

But this time, he was done playing her games.

"Ryan is not your pawn," Antonio said bluntly.

His icy stare and harsh words made Lisa's heart skip a beat. She felt a wave of fear, her whole body going cold.

Meanwhile, Sarah was getting the kids ready for breakfast, holding one in each hand, still on edge from the last incident.

The kids clung to her, sticking close.

As they passed by Antonio's room, they overheard the conversation through the door crack.

"Antonio, I know Ryan shouldn't exist. That night was just an accident, but it happened, and you accepted Ryan, didn't you?"
