Chapter 608 Sending You an Engagement Gift
Benjamin looked at the teary glimmer in his eyes. There was a a slight pain in his heart as if it had been touched, not obvious but hard to ignore.
This feeling was unprecedented, giving him a strange sense of familiarity.
He remained silent for a long time and said in a low voice, "Okay."
Ethan's round big eyes instantly lit up, happily rushing into Benjamin's arms, tears of joy streaming down, "Daddy! Please don't leave us again!"
Intermittent sobs came from his embrace, pressing against his heart, warming Benjamin's originally cold heart.
He gently patted Ethan's back, soothing him in a warm voice. It was as if he was really comforting his son.
Outside, the night was dark, the warm ward dimly lit, a cozy feeling making one relax all over, unknowingly drifting off to sleep.
The next day.
Sarah's fever had subsided, leaving her with a dry mouth.
She once again dreamt of the scene when Antonio had an accident, gripping the sheets tightly and furrowing her brows. "Antonio!"
Beside her on the accompanying hospital bed, Benjamin heard the voice and opened his eyes, Ethan sleeping soundly in his arms.
He carefully withdrew his hand and quickly walked over to check on the situation.
Benjamin asked, "Sarah! How are you feeling?"
Sarah groggily opened her eyes, the face in front of her merging with the one in her dream, momentarily unable to distinguish between reality and illusion.
She involuntarily reached out, "Antonio!"
Benjamin furrowed his brows slightly, already accustomed to her mistaking him for someone else.
He held Sarah's outstretched hand, raising his other hand to feel her forehead. The fever had subsided.
He finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Your fever has gone down. You should be fine."
Sarah blinked, finally coming to her senses in his stern gaze, abruptly backing away, pushing away Benjamin's hand.
"Mr. Harrington, what are you doing here!" she snorted.
Benjamin paused, looking at his rejected hand, chuckling in exasperation.
She was truly ungrateful.
Considering her recent illness, he couldn't be bothered to say anything. He turned and glanced at Ethan's soundly sleeping before calling the doctor. "Could you please examine her to see if there are any other issues?"
The doctor adjusted his glasses, "Of course, Mr. Harrington."
Sarah was a bit dazed but cooperated with the doctor's inquiries, looking clueless about what had happened, which visibly improved Benjamin's mood.
Oh well, she was a patient, after all. It was normal for her to be a bit out of it, so there was no point in arguing with her.
"Mr. Harrington, Ms. Miller is now out of danger, and the baby is fine, too." The doctor removed the stethoscope from his ears. "But she still needs to rest well and drink plenty of water, protein, and vitamins."
"Alright, thank you," Benjamin answered.
Benjamin politely thanked the doctor and saw him out.
Upon returning, he found Sarah lying in bed, had somehow gotten out of bed, and had even woken up Ethan.
She smiled awkwardly at Benjamin, "Mr. Harrington, I apologize for the trouble. I will prepare a gift to thank you for your care! We should go back now."
After speaking, Sarah grabbed the drowsy Ethan and ran off faster than a rabbit.
Her evasive behavior made Benjamin grit his teeth in frustration.
He took a deep breath, picked up the mushrooms the rescue team had brought back, and leisurely followed Sarah.
It wasn't until she returned to her room that he softly asked, "Don't you want the mushrooms?"
Sarah had just opened the door and was startled by the voice behind her.
Why was he following her?
Sarah took a deep breath, let Ethan enter the room first, then turned to take the eco-friendly bag from Benjamin's hand, forcing a smile. "Thank you, Mr. Harrington; you should go back and rest now. Goodbye!"
Sarah felt that she had been getting too close to Benjamin recently.
It was inappropriate.
So she abruptly closed the door without looking back.
Benjamin hadn't even had a chance to react and almost got his nose bumped.
He was so angry that his forehead veins bulged, wishing he could tear down the door in front of him!
She was only courteous when she needed his help, but as soon as she didn't, she was quick to push him aside!
Inside the room, Sarah leaned against the door and let out a sigh of relief.
She had just recovered from a fever, but her mind was still a bit unclear. She did not even remember how she had returned last night. It was all thanks to Benjamin.
"Mommy!" Ethan finally found a chance to care for Sarah, "Is mommy feeling better now? Do you still feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Sarah led the little one to the sofa, "Mommy is fine now, don't worry."
Ethan nodded, then looked at the door with a puzzled expression, "Then why didn't Mommy let Uncle Benjamin in?"
He was actually trying to test the waters, his eyes shifting, "This time, it was all thanks to Uncle Benjamin for saving Mommy! And Uncle Benjamin even took care of Mommy until late at night; we should thank him!"
Sarah was surprised. "Is that so?"
She thought Benjamin had only brought the rescue team, but it turned out he had been with her all night.
Sarah bit her lip, feeling a bit regretful, thinking she should have been more sincere in her thanks earlier.
But it was too late now. Let it be; it would also let him know her attitude.
"It's okay; Mommy will send him a big gift to thank him later; you don't need to worry," Sarah added.
"Okay," Ethan answered.
He couldn't hide his disappointment, but he didn't dare show it in front of Sarah.
In the afternoon, everyone thought Sarah was unwell and would stay at the hotel to rest, but to their surprise, they saw her at the door right on time.
Aiden Thompson was quite surprised.
"Sarah, if you're not feeling well, don't force yourself. You should stay and rest!" Aiden said.
Sarah smiled beautifully, "Thank you all for your concern. I'm fine now and can work normally. I can't let my condition affect the progress."
Her attitude was firm, and Aiden didn't know what else to say.
Then he agreed, "Alright then! Let's go!"
They went out for inspections for most of the day; everything went smoothly, but they all returned hungry.
Aiden went to the restaurant first. "Everyone, eat more. I won't treat each of you individually, especially you, Sarah. Take care of yourself!"
"Okay, thank you, Aiden," Sarah smiled politely and answered.
Benjamin and Isabella stood side by side, his deep eyes fixed on her. He was clearly displeased but said nothing.
Because ever since Sarah had shut him out this morning, throughout the entire inspection process until now, she hadn't spoken to him at all!
Isabella noticed Benjamin's gaze but lowered her eyes, saying nothing.
After Aiden and the other staff entered the restaurant, Sarah turned her head to look at James, took the gift bag he handed her, and handed it to Isabella with a smile.
"This is the engagement gift I'm giving to both of you," Sarah said.
