Chapter 490 Taking Him for a Fool
Luckily Brian had an excuse ready, "Couldn't sleep, so I went to pick up some breakfast for us. Didn't expect you to be up this early."
Antonio didn't sense anything amiss. In fact, he felt even happier. He had the pills Sarah had prepared for him in his pocket. Even though the kids weren't as affectionate as before, at least they weren't angry. These past few days, they'd been eating and living together peacefully, with Harper even showing concern for him.
Everything was moving in a positive direction, which put Antonio in a great mood. "Thanks, Brian. Go wake up your siblings for breakfast."
Brian nodded, snuck into his siblings’ room, and gathered them together to inform them of Sarah's plan to travel abroad.
"You must keep this a secret from Dad; this is a direct order from Mom."
Harper appeared worried, "Bro, why can't we tell Dad? What's going on?"
"Uncle needs urgent treatment, and Mom is still upset with Dad. Let's not tell him just yet. We'll meet up with Mom at the airport and see her off before we figure out how to break the news to Dad. Let's all say we needed some time to clear our heads, got it?"
Brian didn't elaborate much, but his siblings understood, knowing how long Sarah had been prepping for the recent birthday celebration and grasping why she was so upset.
After reaching an agreement, the four kids left for breakfast.
At the table, Brian suggested going to the amusement park. As soon as Antonio heard this, he wanted to join and saw it as an opportunity to mend their relationship. But Harper, usually the closest to him, was the first to object.
"Dad, we want to go on our own."
Ethan chimed in softly, "Yeah, we're planning to hit the go-kart track."
Antonio realized they hadn't fully forgiven him. Though he felt a pang of disappointment, he didn't press the matter.
"Alright, you kids go out and have a good time, and give me a call if you need anything. Stay safe, and Brian, look after your brothers and sister for me."
After breakfast, the children headed out with just the essentials, while Sarah disguised herself and made her way to the airport.
At the airport, the children rushed to her as soon as they saw her.
Harper burst into tears, "Mommy, I've missed you so much! Why haven't you been home?"
Ryan also looked upset, "Ms. Miller, you seem thinner. Haven't you been eating well?"
Ethan pursed his lips. He felt so many emotions he couldn't express and could only softly call out, "Mommy."
Brian remained relatively composed, though his heart ached too. He understood the urgency of the situation and simply gave Sarah a firm hug.
"Mommy, make sure you call me every day. We'll stay in touch; I've got everything arranged over there. If you need anything, just tell me. And remember to take care of yourself and eat on time," he instructed.
Sarah felt a mix of bittersweetness. She ruffled Brian's hair, "Got it."
Then, gathering all four children in her arms, she reassured them, "Kids, Mommy won't be gone long. Once your uncle's condition is stable, I'll bring you over. Take good care of yourselves at home, and don't fight. Discuss any problems with Brian, understood?"
All four children nodded, their faces etched with longing and reluctance...
Meanwhile, at the villa.
Antonio changed into fresh clothes, reluctantly applied some ointment Sarah had given him to look more spirited, and with flowers and gifts in hand, went to the hospital.
He first checked Brady's hospital room and found it locked, then went to Kevin's room, but still, Sarah was nowhere to be seen.
As if on cue, a nurse walked by, "Mr. Valencia, what are you doing here? You didn't go with Ms. Miller?"
Antonio froze and felt a sinking feeling in his gut. He blurted out anxiously, "Go? Where did she go?!"
The nurse was puzzled, "You don't know? Ms. Miller just completed the transfer paperwork to get Mr. Miller treatment abroad."
Struck as if by a thunderbolt, panic and fear seized Antonio's heart.
He immediately called James.
James sounded equally rushed, "Mr. Valencia, I was just about to report to you. The hospital staff just notified me that Ms. Miller has disappeared!"
Antonio, frantic and seething, stormed into Brady's room.
After throwing back the covers, instead of Brady, he found a dummy. A tide of infuriated betrayal swept over him!
As Antonio threw the bouquet and gift to the ground with all his might, a harsh truth crystallized in his heart—a truth his gut had known all along. Sarah's softened demeanor had been nothing but a ruse, a tranquil facade she projected to lull him into false hope!
She was going to leave! She was planning to deceive him once again, to keep secrets, and then just walk out of his life.
James came up empty on finding any flight records for Sarah. That morning, the kids had been acting oddly, and Antonio's suspicion flared. There was no doubt in his mind now—it had to be Brian and his private jet!
They all knew. They treated him like a fool, keeping him in the dark while he clung to the scraps of hope that someday Sarah might return to him, that things could be as they were before.
But in reality, she had been plotting to leave him all along.
Antonio felt the edges of his sanity fraying.
He burst out from the hospital, got in his car, and floored the accelerator, racing to the airport as his heart pounded with every mile.
At the airport, as boarding time approached, Sarah said her reluctant farewells to the kids. No matter how many instructions she gave, her heart couldn't find peace. As time slipped away, she first had to send the kids off before she could let herself move towards the gate.
Walking towards the boarding area felt heavy. She took a deep breath and wiped away the stubborn tears from her eyes.
And then, like a sudden gust, a forceful hand reached out and gripped her wrist—hard.
Sarah gasped. Startled, she turned to find Antonio next to her, his face like a dark cloud in a brewing storm.
"Antonio! Let go of me!" She demanded, her voice trembling.
But Antonio's grip was unyielding, like iron. His eyes were bloodshot, and his face was contorted with rage. His presence was so overwhelming that she felt she couldn't breathe.
Sarah had never seen Antonio like this. He was like a wild beast on the verge of a vicious outburst, ready to devour his prey without a hint of mercy.
He spoke through clenched teeth. "Where do you think you're going, Sarah Miller?"
