Chapter 941 The Morrison Family's Child
Sarah felt a sharp pain in her heart and tried to pull her hand away.
She barely moved when Antonio, who had been asleep, opened his eyes. Their gazes locked instantly.
"Sarah, you're awake!"
Antonio was overjoyed. He got up quickly and asked, "How are you feeling? Do you need some water?" After a pause, he added, "I'll call the doctor."
"I'm fine... Don't get so worked up, okay? I..."
Her voice trailed off, and her expression changed.
"Wait, is this a hospital?"
"Yeah."
Antonio leaned down and kissed her forehead, his lowered eyelids hiding his emotions. "The doctor said you're fine, just a bit hypoglycemic. You need to rest in bed for a while and avoid any physical labor."
Sarah's suspicious gaze lingered on his face. "Just... that?"
Did he not notice the wound on her waist?
"Yeah, just that."
"What, do you think you're not sick enough?" Antonio playfully tapped her nose, both indulgent and helpless. "Weren't you just supposed to take a walk? How did you end up becoming a volunteer at the orphanage?"
Seeing that he hadn't noticed, Sarah breathed a sigh of relief and nuzzled his hand.
"I won't ignore my health anymore."
If something like this happened again, Antonio would be scared to death.
"You better not."
Antonio sighed softly. "But if you want to go next time, take me with you. Let me handle the hard work, okay?"
Sarah was taken aback, tears falling as a faint smile appeared on her pale face. "That would be wonderful."
How did she deserve such an understanding and loving partner?
When the doctor came in, he saw the couple embracing and cleared his throat. Only when they separated did he approach.
"Mrs. Valencia, I'm here to do a check-up."
Sarah couldn't help but feel nervous again.
"Doctor... I feel fine."
Antonio noticed her unease and subtly signaled the doctor.
He had already instructed the informed doctors and nurses not to reveal the truth. Otherwise, Sarah might spiral into another bout of anxiety.
The doctor sighed. "Mrs. Valencia, it's just a basic check-up. No need to worry. Your current condition requires you to stay positive. You have mild postpartum depression, and if it continues, the consequences could be severe."
Sarah relaxed a bit. "I understand... Thank you, doctor."
As long as it wasn't about her kidneys.
But... postpartum depression?
A bitter smile appeared on her lips. She hadn't even kept the baby, and now she had this?
Antonio immediately sensed her sadness and pulled her into his arms, his voice gentle yet firm. "I'll be with you. You have to get better. Harper and the others are waiting for you."
Sarah leaned against him, feeling the steady beat of his heart.
Each beat seemed to resonate within her.
"Okay."
She didn't want to continue like this.
For him and the kids, she had to get better.
While they were receiving treatment at the hospital, Bob had already moved most of the company's operations to Capital City, bringing Una and Nia along.
The new environment and the presence of adorable Nia had almost dispelled Una's grief over losing her husband.
Bob watched Nia quietly sucking her thumb in the sunlight, his eyes flickering. "Mom, about Nia's identity, why don't we tell everyone she's a relative of the Morrison family, adopted by you? What do you think?"
Una was a bit taken aback. "Why?"
"If we claim that Nia is the daughter of a relative, this way there would be a legitimate blood connection and a clear background. It won't give people any reason to gossip. If we say she's adopted, some unscrupulous people might come forward claiming to be her biological parents, trying to use her to connect with the Morrison family. That would be troublesome. And Nia is so young and frail; we can't put her in the spotlight, right?"
"That... makes sense. Let's do that!"
Bob smiled, the epitome of filial piety.
Soon, everyone knew that Una had adopted a girl from a relative of the Morrison family, and Bob was raising her as his own sister.
Sarah and Antonio heard about it too but chose not to discuss it. After all, it was someone else's child, not their concern.
Sarah stayed in the hospital for a few days and felt much better, so she was discharged.
On the way home, Antonio said, "I have some good news for you."
"What good news?"
Antonio glanced at her, his eyes full of affection. "I made a donation to the orphanage where you volunteered, in the name of the Valencia Group. They're holding an event at the World Trade Center today. Interested in going?"
Sarah's eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you serious?"
Antonio was so efficient!
"Of course, when have I ever lied to you?"
He supported everything she wanted to do and helped her achieve it.
"Let's go quickly then. The orphanage is short-staffed, and with so many kids at the event, we can't afford any accidents... And what about lunch? Should we arrange something?"
Antonio found her concern both endearing and amusing.
"Sarah, I've already taken care of everything. Don't worry."
He held her hand. "I'll drop you off first, then go get the prepared fruits and drinks. As for lunch, I've already arranged a restaurant."
Sarah finally relaxed. "That's good."
When they arrived at the plaza, they saw children in green T-shirts painting with brushes.
Her mood lifted instantly, the gloom dissipating like a breeze, leaving only warmth and gratitude.
As soon as Antonio parked the car, Sarah jumped out.
"Go get the fruits and drinks. I'll start helping!"
She dashed off before he could respond.
He shook his head, amused but happy to see her so open-hearted. Watching her put on an apron, he felt reassured and drove off.
Sarah first greeted the director, then helped the children by washing brushes and mixing paints.
These were things she often did at home, so she was quite adept.
Just as she paused to catch her breath, she heard a surprised voice nearby. "Sarah... what are you doing here?"
"What?"
Sarah instinctively responded and turned around.
Bob?
What a coincidence. He had just moved to Capital City, and now...
And he was holding a child, probably the newly adopted relative of the Morrison family.
