Chapter 760 He Must Have Carter

Mary quickly snatched up her phone and killed the speaker, shooting a nervous glance at Sarah.

She met Sarah's confused look, forced a smile, and turned away to answer the call. "I got it," she said.

She kept her voice low, making sure Sarah couldn't catch what was being said.

But Sarah could tell it was definitely Timothy on the other end.

From what she overheard, it seemed Antonio was right; Mary and Timothy were definitely a thing.

Sarah raised an eyebrow but didn't say a word.

She noticed Mary's ears turning red.

Mary looked visibly uneasy and stammered, "Sarah, he just said that his mom is my godmother."

Sarah chuckled at her explanation. "I know, why are you so nervous?"

Even if Timothy and Mary had some secret relationship, she wouldn't dig too deep. Like Mary said before, everyone had the right to privacy.

Mary didn't want to talk about it, so Sarah naturally wouldn't pry.

Mary seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and shot her a grateful look.

She and Timothy were secretly married, and if this got out, he'd definitely be pissed.

"If you have something to do, you should go back first."

With that, Sarah gave her a reassuring look. "I can handle it myself."

Mary was a bit worried about her, but thinking of Timothy's mom, she reluctantly got up. "Then be careful. If anything happens, call me."

"Okay, you go ahead." Sarah watched her walk out the door before turning back to the stuff in front of her.

There were a bunch of books in the cabinet, which seemed to belong to Cynthia.

She felt a bit nervous and quickened her pace.

Suddenly, a leather-bound journal caught her eye. Sarah paused and quickly opened it.

It turned out to be Cynthia's diary!

Sarah never thought she'd learn about Cynthia's past this way. The diary recorded almost everything that had happened to Cynthia over the years.

She looked at the beautiful handwriting, feeling as if she were part of it.

From the diary, Sarah learned that Cynthia and Carol had a great relationship. From a young age, Cynthia had been staying at Carol's house in Whispering Pines Village, growing up together with her and Carter.

The three of them had been very close, living a carefree life until they graduated from college.

They discussed whether to accept their family's arrangements or to try to make their own way.

"I will never accept their arrangements," Carol pouted. "To my dad, it doesn't matter if I'm happy; his control is what matters."

The Miller Family was quite prominent locally. If they followed their family's arrangements, they would get married right after they graduated.

Meanwhile, Carter's parents didn't give her much pressure, so she didn't have such concerns.

"I'm planning to go home first and then decide where to go," Cynthia said, looking at Carol. "What about you?"

"I haven't decided yet, but if they force me to marry someone I don't like, I'll run away!"

Unexpectedly, she really did run away later. The Miller Family, despite Carol being their only daughter, wanted her to marry a guy twelve years older than her, even though she was killing it managing the family business.

Carol bailed two days before the wedding.

She tore the bedsheets into strips, climbed out the window while everyone was busy with the wedding prep, and vanished without a trace.

The family was in chaos for a long time.

Cynthia was super anxious. When Carter asked to meet, she went.

Carter exclaimed, "Let me tell you, Carol went to Marshall City!"

She showed Cynthia the text message from Carol, "Write this down; it's Carol's new number. But Cynthia, you can't tell your family about this! Carol had a hard time escaping. If your parents find out and she gets caught, it's over!"

Cynthia breathed a sigh of relief and quickly noted the number. "Don't worry! I won't tell anyone!"

She knew Carol's personality. Since she had taken this step, she wouldn't easily turn back. As her sister, she naturally hoped Carol would find her true happiness!

Carter was relieved and felt a bit envious.

She said expectantly, "It's great! Carol can live the life she wants. When she settles down, let's go find her?"

Cynthia, always the obedient one, shook her head, "No, if I go, what about my mom?"

Seeing her hesitation, Carter didn't insist.

They called Carol together, promising that no matter where they went, the three of them would always stay in touch.

Two months later, Carter called Cynthia, saying she was going to Marshall City to find Carol and have some fun.

However, she didn't expect that not stopping Carter from going to Marshall City would lead to such a terrible event.

Even if it was another city, the subsequent tragedy wouldn't have been unimaginable.

Fate was always unpredictable.

After arriving in Marshall City, Carter loved the environment and didn't want to go back home.

She quickly settled down and found a job but didn't live with Carol.

She started dating. Her boyfriend was her boss at the company, Nicholas Collins. She liked him a lot.

One day after work, Nicholas took her to an important party. He brought Carter because he heard the pastry chef at the party was a famous international master.

Carter, with her stunning looks, loved sweets.

Attending such events inevitably involved socializing.

Carter accompanied Nicholas around the room, toasting with people. When she got a chance, she pulled him to a corner, tugging at his collar and pouting, "These high heels are killing me!"

Nicholas felt sorry for her, suggesting, "Should we leave then?"

In such a setting, it wasn't easy for him to just leave actually.

Carter sighed inwardly but smiled, "Kiss me, and I won't feel the pain."

He had no choice but to quickly peck her on the lips.

Many people were dancing with their partners, and no one noticed the scene in the corner. She hooked her arms around Nicholas's neck, seeing a blush slowly rise on his ears, and smiled brightly.

Neither of them noticed that Harold, not far away, saw everything.

He looked at the charming and alluring Carter, her eyes filled with an innocence that didn't match her stunning looks.

With just one look, Harold had already decided he wanted this woman.
