Chapter 741 Electric Shock

Seeing Mary, Sarah sped up to catch her. "Hey! I was just about to call you! Didn't think I'd bump into you here. Where've you been?"

Mary smiled and glanced at Cynthia, who was standing next to Antonio, before saying, "Just busy with some stuff. Cynthia hasn't been causing any trouble, has she?"

"Nope." After Sarah answered, she instinctively looked at Timothy, the guy who had just been in a bit of a tussle with Mary.

Mary noticed and jumped in, "Oh, this is my college senior, Timothy. He's a doctor here too."

She then turned to Timothy and said, "This is Sarah and her husband, the ones I was telling you about."

Since Mary had no vested interest, Sarah didn't hide her real name from her, but she didn't tell Mary Antonio's name.

Timothy, standing nearby, looked a bit annoyed but kept it to himself.

'Senior? That's how she introduced me?' he thought, feeling a bit helpless.

He extended his hand to Antonio, saying, "I'm Timothy, a resident doctor here. If you need anything, just let me know."

Antonio noticed the look in his eyes, raised an eyebrow slightly, and shook his hand. "Paul White."

Sarah chimed in, "Mary's always been kind-hearted, and I didn't expect Dr. Reed to be so enthusiastic too."

Sarah was secretly relieved that Antonio had stopped her earlier. It seemed these two had some kind of special relationship. If she had really hit Timothy just now, it would've been super awkward.

After a few polite exchanges, Antonio suddenly turned pale and clutched his chest, dry heaving a couple of times. It felt just like the discomfort he had felt the day he arrived in Marshall City.

Sarah felt a pang of concern, asking, "What's wrong? Are you feeling sick again?"

Antonio just shook his head. "It's nothing."

But before he could finish, he felt a numbness sweep across his face and quickly spread throughout his body! His fingers were so stiff he couldn't move them!

Timothy, standing nearby, watched Antonio closely, his eyes narrowing slightly, scrutinizing him with a meaningful look.

After a while, Antonio recovered a bit and instinctively shook his hand.

Sarah was almost worried to death, supporting him, asking with concern, "Maybe you should get checked out? Okay?"

At that moment, Timothy suddenly spoke up, "Mr. White, have you recently undergone forced electroshock therapy?"

Hearing that, Sarah was stunned. Antonio suddenly looked up, staring at him in disbelief. He hadn't expected Timothy to figure that out.

Sarah was confused, looking at them with a puzzled expression. "What are you talking about?"

"Sarah, hang on a sec." Antonio reassured her and then pulled Timothy aside to talk.

Sarah watched them walk away, her frown deepening.

'What else is Antonio hiding from me? Electroshock therapy?' she wondered.

Antonio and Timothy walked to a corner, frowning. "Dr. Reed, how did you know about the electroshock therapy you mentioned earlier?"

Timothy raised an eyebrow and said, "For us neurologists, it's not hard to tell."

Then he added, "Your current condition is a typical aftereffect of forced electroshock therapy, very common. Dizziness, dry heaving, peripheral nerve numbness. These symptoms can randomly appear within 1-6 months after the electroshock."

Thinking that Sarah seemed unaware of this, Timothy felt a bit apologetic.

He said, "Sorry, Mr. White, I didn't realize your wife didn't know about this."

As doctors, they often saw patients hiding stuff from their families.

Antonio smiled bitterly and shook his head. "It's fine. She would've found out sooner or later anyway."

Timothy didn't say more on that. From a medical standpoint, he advised, "Regardless of the past reasons, Mr. White, it's best to avoid forced electroshock therapy again. While it can help with certain conditions, it does a lot of harm to the body and can leave severe aftereffects."

Such cases weren't rare.

Antonio just nodded. "Thanks for the heads-up. By the way, Dr. Reed, are you a neurologist?"

"Yes," Timothy replied, "I work here at this hospital. If you need anything, just let me know."

Given Sarah and Mary's good relationship, Antonio didn't hold back. "Dr. Reed, you must've noticed Cynthia's condition. Is there any chance she can be cured? I mean, can her mental state return to normal?"

If there was a chance, Cynthia might provide some clues from the past.

Antonio remembered that the previous investigation showed his mother, Carter, had rented a place in a small town called Whispering Pines Village. Sarah had mentioned that her mother, Carol, was also from that town. That was why Antonio always suspected that their mothers might have known each other. If that were true, Cynthia might know something about them, especially about Carter.

Timothy thought for a moment but couldn't give a definite answer.

He shook his head and said, "It's hard to say."

Then he added, "However, Mr. White, if you have time, you might want to have her undergo a detailed brain examination. I can make a more accurate judgment after seeing the results."

Antonio had no objections and said, "Let's do the exam right away!"

Hearing that, Timothy's dark eyes flickered, and he suddenly said, "Can I ask you something?"

Antonio was puzzled but replied, "Sure."

"I... I wanted to ask about Mary." Timothy looked a bit uneasy.

He continued, "Since Cynthia is at the nursing home, do you know anything about Mary's volunteer work there?"

Seeing Antonio's confusion, he added, "Anything at all."

Antonio shook his head apologetically. "Honestly, we just ran into Cynthia today, so we might not be much help with that."

Timothy frowned. "What about Mary?"

Antonio looked at him meaningfully and recounted the whole story, "It might just be a coincidence that Ms. Smith ran into my wife, so they happened to meet."

"I see." Timothy nodded thoughtfully. "Thanks."

"No problem, we should be thanking you." Antonio said as they walked back together, but he was deep in thought.

'It seems that Timothy's relationship with Mary is indeed quite unusual. If he were just a senior, he wouldn't care about so many things. Either they are a couple having a disagreement, or Timothy has a one-sided affection for Mary,' he thought.
