Chapter 940 Antonio Learns the Truth

Sarah didn't say anything, just shook her head with a smile.

She should be the one thanking these kids.

If it weren't for them, she wouldn't know how to heal the wounds in her heart.

Not far from the orphanage, Antonio had been standing for a long time.

He cautiously walked forward and stood outside the fence. It wasn't long before he saw Sarah coming out with a large bucket of water, seemingly to mop the floor. She was still very weak and almost fell.

"Sarah!"

He was too far away, and fortunately, his restrained call didn't reach her.

Antonio watched her, sweating profusely, and his heart nearly broke.

His Sarah, could her body handle this?

But he also understood that Sarah had too many emotions bottled up inside, so she wanted to distract herself this way.

Sarah didn't notice the gaze watching her. She just felt like she had endless energy. Maybe... if she used up all her strength, she wouldn't think about Eden so much?

So she kept doing all the chores.

Anything dirty or tiring, she took it all on.

The director noticed she didn't look well and was a bit worried.

"Sarah... why don't you take a break? We have other teachers here who can help. You don't have to do everything..."

"It's okay, Director."

Sarah, panting, glanced at her. "I'm fine. I can still go on."

She couldn't stop.

If she stopped, she couldn't help but overthink.

The director wanted to say more but saw the frail Sarah picking up the children's clothes to wash.

Could her body really handle this?

Not long after, the thing they feared most happened—

Sarah fainted while washing clothes!

The director hadn't even reacted when a tall figure rushed in from outside, his handsome face full of worry.

"Where's Sarah?!"

A child pointed, stunned, "In... the backyard."

Antonio didn't dare delay and sprinted to the backyard.

The director quickly followed, asking, "Sir... may I ask what your relationship with Sarah is? Should I call 911?"

Antonio had already picked up the unconscious Sarah, the concern in his eyes undeniable.

He stared at the pale Sarah in his arms, his voice trembling, "I'm her husband, and I'm taking her to the hospital now!"

The children outside, worried and curious, made way for him.

"Sarah... hang in there, we're almost there! You'll be okay, you will..."

He kept talking to her softly, but Sarah, in the passenger seat, didn't respond at all.

Finally, they reached the hospital, and Sarah was immediately taken to the emergency room.

Antonio called out to a nurse, "Ma'am, my wife just had a baby not long ago and had a severe hemorrhage. Please let the doctor know. Thank you."

The nurse nodded and went in.

Antonio stood at the door, his heart twisted in unbearable pain.

He couldn't handle any more surprises.

Time ticked by, and when the emergency room door opened, Antonio shot up as if a switch had been flipped.

"Doctor, how is my wife?"

His voice trembled, moving everyone.

The doctor took off his mask, hesitated for a moment, then asked, "You said your wife just had a baby and had a severe hemorrhage. Did you know she recently had a kidney removed?"

Antonio stood there, stunned, then incredulously said, "Doctor... you must be joking, right?"

Sarah... had a kidney removed?

He suddenly thought of his own kidney!

And... he had found it strange that Sarah didn't visit him after his surgery, even though she could have sent someone else to find Eden!

But if this was true, it all made sense...

She didn't see him because she had just had surgery herself!

She willingly donated her kidney to him!

The doctor saw his reddening eyes and sighed, "Sir, I'm a doctor. I stand by what I say. Your wife shouldn't do any physical labor and should rest in bed. She might not feel it now, but it'll be serious when she's older. Young people... so reckless."

Antonio was beyond shocked. He stammered, "I understand. Thank you, doctor."

The doctor nodded, "Her wound has barely healed. She can't continue like today, or it might reopen and risk infection."

"Okay... thank you."

'Sarah, how could you be so foolish? You did so much behind my back... and endured so much.' Antonio thought.

He held his head, feeling every nerve in his brain tearing with pain.

As he looked back, there were so many chances to notice something was wrong.

Like when she didn't want to video call him.

Or insisted on staying in separate rooms at the hospital.

And how she flinched when he touched her waist.

Refusing to bathe when she had a fever, changing clothes in the bathroom...

These memories flooded Antonio's mind, flashing like movie scenes, each one piercing him with pain.

It was all his fault; he was such an idiot!

If he had noticed sooner, Sarah wouldn't have had to endure alone.

Antonio regretted so much he wanted to kill himself!

But thinking of his unconscious wife inside, he had to push down all his emotions and quietly entered the room.

She lay on the bed, her pale face blending with the sterile environment, lifeless.

"Sarah..."

His beloved.

Antonio gently touched her cheek, her soft skin flawless, but she had lost so much weight from not eating well.

He couldn't help but lift her hospital gown.

On her left lower back, a long scar still looked pink.

He finally saw the proof that his beloved wife loved him enough to give her body, her life.

The sight of the scar made him weep uncontrollably.

"Why are you... so foolish?"

Sarah didn't respond, still like a sleeping princess.

Antonio, tears streaming, held her hand to his face, feeling like the empty part of his heart was finally filled.

Sarah woke up hours later.

The sky had darkened, the twilight casting an unreal glow.

She squinted, looking around in confusion, her gaze finally landing on the man by her bed.

He held her hand, eyes closed, seemingly asleep.

Dark circles under his eyes showed his exhaustion.

He must be very tired...
