Chapter 870 He Lied Again
Lisa bit her lip, her movements swift as she slipped the powder into the glass with the most milk, stirring it twice.
She picked up the tray and went upstairs.
"Elara," Ryan said, putting down his bedtime storybook when he saw her. "Are you adjusting well here? If you need anything, you can talk to Jasmine Faye. She's very nice."
Jasmine was the other servant.
Lisa smiled as she set down the milk. "I'm adjusting well."
"Mr. Antonio Valencia and Mrs. Valencia are very kind, and everyone else is friendly too. Ryan, I'm really grateful to you. I couldn't have found such a good job on my own. You've helped me so much, I don't know how to repay you. If you ever need anything, just let me know, and I'll do it."
Ryan waved his hand repeatedly. "No need to be so polite. Anyone else would have done the same. Besides, I know you're a good person, and I'm happy you could come."
Lisa looked like she was about to cry from being moved. "Drink your milk and go to bed early. You have school tomorrow."
Ryan responded, reaching out to take the milk she handed him.
The glass was full, and he carefully brought it to his lips, drinking it all without any suspicion.
Lisa watched his actions, her breathing becoming lighter. The room was eerily quiet, with only the sound of Ryan swallowing the milk.
Ryan, with his clear eyes, set down the glass and smiled. "Thank you."
Lisa's face stiffened for a moment but quickly returned to normal. She softly said, "Ryan, how about I tell you a story? I see you can't sleep alone."
"Sure." Ryan had no idea what she was thinking and even kindly made room for her. "You can sit on the bed too and cover yourself with the blanket."
Lisa's eyes sparkled.
Ryan was, after all, her biological child, born from her.
He must want to be with her, not raised by a hypocritical and vicious woman like Sarah!
"Okay." Lisa sat on the bed, hugged Ryan, and began telling him a bedtime story.
Before long, Ryan started to get drowsy.
Unconsciously, he snuggled closer to Lisa, feeling so warm.
Lisa had already put down the storybook and looked down at Ryan.
She whispered like a ghost, "Ryan, I am your mother."
"Don't worry, I won't hurt you."
"But I have nothing left now, only you. Only you can help me. You won't blame me, right?"
"Ryan, I love you. You have to stand by my side. Otherwise, how pitiful would I be? It's all that bad woman Sarah's fault that we were separated. She lied to you. Only I love you."
These murmurs, like a gentle breeze, entered Ryan's ears and gradually fermented under the influence of the drug.
The next day, when Ryan woke up, he had forgotten everything from the night before, only remembering that Lisa had brought him milk.
Even though the previous servants had done the same, he felt that Lisa was better than any of them.
During breakfast, Ryan kept glancing towards the kitchen.
Sarah gave him a curious look. "Ryan, what are you looking at?"
"Oh, nothing." Ryan swallowed his egg. "I was just wondering if Elara had breakfast."
He jumped off his chair. "Mommy, I'm done. You all take your time. I'm going to thank Elara for making breakfast."
Sarah laughed at his hurried manner. "Ryan really gets along well with Elara."
Francis watched him leave. "Let him be."
With Guadalupe not around recently, he spent most of his time here, trying to bond with Ryan. Seeing Ryan so close to Lisa, he felt reassured.
It showed that Lisa was indeed taking good care of him.
Antonio looked at the expression in Francis's eyes, but his thoughts were elsewhere.
Francis must be yearning for a normal life now with Ryan and the family.
It was only a few days ago that Antonio learned from Francis's confession how difficult these past few years had been for him.
Antonio had asked Francis directly in the study, knowing he had something to say. "Francis, did something happen to you these past few years?"
With the sunlight pouring in from the window behind him, Francis's face was hidden in the backlight. All Antonio could hear was a deep sigh. "Antonio, I didn't want to tell you this."
"But I know you've been worried about me, so..."
"I just hope you won't look down on me after hearing this."
Antonio frowned. "Francis, why would you say that?"
Their brotherly bond would never waver.
Moreover, Francis had saved his life.
"No matter what happens, you'll always be my family."
Francis nodded, staying silent for a while before speaking.
It turned out that after being rescued abroad, even though he had lost his memory, he still wanted to earn some money on his own. But he accidentally got involved in gambling.
Guadalupe's business abroad included casinos.
Francis, being in that environment every day, was inevitably influenced, thinking he could get rich without effort.
But the result was quite the opposite. Not only did he fail to make money, but he also ended up owing a large debt to the casino, which was impossible to repay at the time.
Moreover, a woman had taken a liking to Francis.
But before anything could happen, Guadalupe caught them. Francis then learned that the woman was Guadalupe's mistress.
Guadalupe was furious and demanded repayment on the spot. How could Francis repay it?
As a result, Francis was controlled by Guadalupe until now, only to be released when the debt was cleared.
These words were half-true. Guadalupe's perversion was real, the casino was real, but the reason Guadalupe controlled him was false.
He really couldn't tell Antonio about what had happened between him and Guadalupe.
He also knew that Sarah naturally sided with Antonio and didn't want to help him hide the truth. This was human nature, so he had to use this method to deceive them for now.
Fortunately, judging by Antonio's reaction, his story had passed.
Antonio didn't know what to feel after hearing this, but he focused on the main point. "Francis, if it's just about owing him money, now that you're back with the Valencia Family, no matter how much it is, I can pay it off."
Nothing was more important than Francis's freedom.
Francis smiled bitterly and shook his head. "Guadalupe won't take it."
"He's not someone who lacks money. What bothers him more is that the woman favored me, so he keeps me around just to vent his anger."
