Chapter 783 Ms. Miller, Do You Have Any Other Questions?

Antonio replied, "Alright, it was my oversight. You can hit me. By the way, are you hungry? I need to get you something to eat. Once you're full and Dr. Reed has rested, I'll accompany you to see him. He just finished a long night shift and is very tired. Plus, transferring hospitals isn't urgent; we have time."

Sarah let go of his hand and looked up at him. She wanted to shake her head and say she wasn't hungry, but her stomach growled at just the right moment.

Antonio smiled and affectionately released her hand. "Wait for me, I'll be back soon."

"Okay." Sarah nodded in agreement and then slid down to lie under the covers.

Seeing this, Antonio still didn't dare to relax. Even after tucking her in and leaving the ward, he kept a stern face.

Just then, the phone rang.

He was about to answer when a nurse-like person pushing a cart walked over. "Mr. Valencia, I'm here to give Ms. Miller an injection."

Antonio glanced at her, and with the phone still ringing incessantly, he just nodded and stepped aside.

The nurse smiled and pushed open the door to the ward.

Sarah heard the noise and groggily opened her eyes. "Why are you back so soon..."

But she stopped mid-sentence when she realized it wasn't Antonio. She smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I thought you were my husband."

"No problem." The nurse walked over and quickly placed the tray on the bed. "Ms. Miller, you and Mr. Valencia are so loving; we're all very envious."

Sarah felt something was off but couldn't pinpoint it.

The nurse started working, taking out medication and a syringe from the cart, her eyes crinkling into a smile above her mask. "Ms. Miller, I need to bother you for a moment. It might hurt a bit, but that's a normal physiological reaction. Please bear with it."

Sarah's face turned slightly pale, but she cooperated and sat up. "Oh, okay."

Seeing her compliance, the nurse's face behind the mask twisted into a sinister smile, but her voice remained gentle and harmless. "Ms. Miller, you're so considerate and kind-hearted. Let's get started."

The nurse approached Sarah with the syringe, feeling very pleased with herself.

As long as she administered this injection, her task would be complete.

Just as she was about to roll up Sarah's sleeve, Sarah suddenly recoiled.

The nurse's hand missed its mark.

Her expression behind the mask instantly froze.

But the next second, the nurse forced a patient tone, bending down and smiling as she gently asked, "What's wrong, Ms. Miller?"

"Can I ask what kind of injection this is?" Sarah asked.

"It's a progesterone shot, prescribed by your attending physician." The nurse quickly replied and then continued fiddling with the needle.

Her face behind the mask twisted with malice, her eyes full of venom.

What was wrong with Sarah? She was cooperating just a moment ago. Why was she suddenly asking questions?

Sarah's unease grew.

Her beautiful eyes stared unblinkingly at the nurse, her long lashes fluttering with anxiety.

Her attending physician had said she was recovering well and had even reduced her medication. Why suddenly have a progesterone shot?

Noticing Sarah's hesitation, the nurse suddenly looked up. "Ms. Miller, do you have any questions?"

"No," Sarah hesitated before answering.

After all, the nurse hadn't done anything wrong, and her actions seemed professional. Maybe she was overthinking it.

She bit her lip and extended her arm, despite the goosebumps on her skin.

The nurse had already drawn the medication into the syringe. "Ms. Miller, please turn to your side or extend your arm."

"Oh, okay." Sarah nodded, and the syringe was about to pierce her arm.

The phone on the bedside table suddenly started vibrating.

Both Sarah and the nurse froze.

Sensing something was wrong, the nurse quickly tried to administer the injection.

But she missed again, Sarah withdrew her arm once more.

The nurse's face was now beyond just looking bad.

Sarah, unaware, smiled apologetically at the nurse. "Could you wait a moment? I need to take this call."

Without waiting for the nurse's response, she sat up halfway and answered the phone, putting it to her ear.

"Mommy."

Hearing Ethan's voice warmed her heart, and she couldn't help but tear up. "Ethan, what's wrong?"

"Mommy, are you feeling better? When are you coming home? I dreamed about you last night. I miss you so much."

Holding back her tears, Sarah licked her lips. "Soon, I won't be away for much longer."

This was the first time she had been away from her three children for so long.

She felt a void in her heart, as if a large piece was missing.

"Really?" Ethan seemed very happy, jumping around on the other end of the line, and making quite a noise.

Sarah smiled. "Be careful, don't hurt yourself. I'll be worried."

"Okay! I'll go tell Harper and the others the good news!" Ethan responded sweetly.

The nurse standing nearby heard this but didn't look pleased. Her eyes were filled with impatience.

Seeing that Sarah wasn't stopping, the nurse couldn't help but raise her voice to interrupt. "Ms. Miller, this is for your own good. Let's get the injection done first, then you can make your call."

Sarah instinctively turned her head, her gaze slightly sharp. "Can't you see I'm on the phone with my son? Can't you wait a moment? Besides, my baby just stabilized. There's no rush."

The nurse realized her attitude was off.

Understanding this, she deliberately furrowed her brows and spoke earnestly. "Ms. Miller, you just had a scare and lost a lot of energy. If you don't get this progesterone shot now, it could be very harmful to your baby. I'm doing this for your own good."

Although Sarah found some sense in her words, she still felt uneasy.

Unexpectedly, instead of hanging up, she asked another question. "Where's your badge? Why aren't you wearing it?"

The nurse gritted her teeth behind the mask and finally took out her badge from her pocket and put it on. "Sorry, I just started my shift and hadn't put it on yet. Do you have any other questions, Ms. Miller?"

Sarah scrutinized the badge, memorized the name, and then gave Ethan a few more instructions over the phone.

After hanging up, she extended her arm to the nurse.

The nurse prepared to inject her again.

The sharp needle was getting closer and closer to Sarah's arm, seemingly about to pierce her skin.

The door to the ward suddenly opened.
