Chapter 60 This Is Impossible, I Don't Believe It
Antonio was giving her the kind of look that could melt steel. Right then, Sarah wasn't putting up her usual icy front. If it wasn't for the slightly different face staring back at him, he'd swear he'd time-traveled back five years.
Sarah stopped a few feet away from Antonio. Sure, there was still some space between them, but the fact that she came to see him on her own? That was huge. It meant she'd finally stopped running and had thought things through.
Before she could get a word out, Antonio jumped in, "Heard from the maids you didn't eat much today. Food not your thing? What do you want? I'll get it sorted."
She had a bunch of scrapes and a nasty knock to the head, losing a ton of blood. She needed to eat right to get back on her feet.
Sarah kept her cool and shook her head. "Nah, I'm good. Just not hungry."
Inside, she was fuming. He'd used surveillance footage to blackmail her, dragged her back here, and even sealed the windows. How was she supposed to have an appetite?
"When I'm not around, just ask the maids for whatever you need."
He paused for a couple of seconds, his voice softening a bit. "You can see, nothing's changed here."
Everything was just like it was a few years ago; nothing had moved an inch.
Sarah listened but didn't look up at Antonio. Whatever his deal was, she didn't care.
There was a saying that things changed, but people didn't. He taught her an even bigger lesson: The one who gave their heart away was the one who lost.
Sarah finally looked up and locked eyes with Antonio. She didn't bother with his words and cut straight to the chase. "Antonio, I want to see the surveillance footage. I need to know what really happened that night."
Antonio's eyes flickered with some complicated emotion, like a deep pool you couldn't see the bottom of. "You sure you wanna see it?"
There was a tiny hint of helplessness in his voice, but Sarah missed it. She nodded firmly, "I need to confirm what's in the video."
She just wanted to see what kind of footage, what kind of truth, was worth all his effort and was locked up tight.
Antonio went silent, making Sarah more and more nervous, especially with him staring her down. She couldn't help but worry he might destroy the evidence instead of handing it over.
After what felt like forever, Antonio let out a barely-there sigh. "Alright."
His voice was flat, no emotion, but at least he wasn't pissed, which made Sarah feel a bit better.
Antonio bent down, grabbed the surveillance tape from the desk drawer, and popped it into his laptop, then turned the screen towards Sarah.
Sarah leaned in right away, her brows knitting together, eyes wide with disbelief.
In the footage, Brady looked out of it. The second he saw Lusa, he lunged at her. Lusa screamed and tried to run, then a bunch of people rushed in to hold Brady back, total chaos!
This was nothing like what she'd imagined!
It was like someone dumped a bucket of ice water over her, leaving Sarah cold and shaking.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing. She rewound the footage and watched it again, staring hard at the people in the video, but nothing changed.
The guy was Brady, and he was definitely attacking Lusa!
"This can't be real. I don't believe it!" Sarah blurted out. How could she believe that gentle Brady would do something like this?
Antonio stayed calm. "I don't buy it either, so I'm taking this footage to keep the cops from finding it."
As he spoke, he looked deeply at Sarah, his eyes full of meaning. "Otherwise, Brady would've been locked up a long time ago."
Hearing this, Sarah suddenly got it.
Antonio had taken the video to protect Brady, not to help Lisa and Lusa.
But why?
Wasn't he with Lisa...
Right now, Sarah couldn't think straight. She stared hard at the video, feeling like something was off.
She stood up straight, gritting her teeth. "I want to see Brady in person and ask him directly about what happened."
Unless she heard Brady admit it herself, she'd never believe it!
Antonio didn't say anything, just looked at her in silence.
Sarah knew she had no leverage and had to give in.
After thinking for a moment, she gritted her teeth and promised, "I won't leave again. I promise to stay, but I need to see Brady."
After all, she couldn't leave even if she wanted to now, so she might as well sort out Brady's mess first.
Antonio's eyes flickered as he looked at Sarah, and Sarah met his gaze without backing down.
But her hands, hanging at her sides, were clenched tight.
The silent standoff felt like it lasted forever for Sarah. It seemed like ages before she saw Antonio finally nod. "Alright, I'll take you to see him."
