Chapter 65 Sarah, You Really Don't Understand
Sarah had already laid it out, so Brady had no choice but to roll with it. Still, he threw in a reminder, "I trust you, but if anything goes sideways, hit me up!"
"Yeah, yeah, I got it." Sarah shot him a reassuring smile before hopping into the car.
Antonio, though, just gave Brady a frosty look before sliding into the car himself.
Brady stood there, watching the car disappear, looking all serious and stuff.
The ride back to the villa was dead silent.
As soon as they got back, Antonio beelined it to the study, while Sarah watched him go, feeling all kinds of conflicted.
She didn't want to bow down to Antonio, but she also didn't want to owe him anything.
After mulling it over, Sarah figured she should thank him. She wasn't the type to be ungrateful.
She quickly followed Antonio upstairs and caught the study door just before it closed.
"Antonio, I need to talk to you."
Antonio turned to look at her, his face all tense, and walked into the study without a word.
Sarah took his silence as a green light and walked in but kept her distance.
She bit her lip and said sincerely, "Thanks for saving Brady."
Antonio paused, then shrugged off his suit jacket and tossed it over a chair, still not saying a word.
He hadn't forgotten that Sarah had just said she wanted a divorce.
Thinking about that made his face darken, his lips almost a straight line.
Sarah couldn't see Antonio's expression. She was here to thank him, whether he accepted it or not was his problem.
So she went on, "I saw everything. The bodyguards in black who found and brought the witness were your guys. Thanks to you, Brady cleared his name."
She wasn't dumb. In court, Rio had said Lusa gave him two hundred grand!
She didn't know how Antonio had convinced Rio to testify, but he must've done something.
"How'd you convince Rio? Did you pay him off? How much? I'll pay you back." Sarah said this without any other intention; she just didn't want to owe Antonio.
Antonio's eyes narrowed, and his face turned scary. 'Damn it, is she that eager to cut ties? How can she even say that!' he thought.
Of course, Sarah had no clue what Antonio was thinking, and she had another thing she couldn't figure out.
"Last time at the hot spring resort, I heard Brady stabbed you. My bad for that mess; dude just went off. But why not clue Brady in on all the stuff you've had his back on?"
For example, Antonio had taken the hit without pressing charges against Brady, and now he had saved Brady but didn't let him know.
She thought Brady needed to know his kindness.
Unexpectedly, Antonio suddenly turned around, his dark eyes showing some unreadable emotion.
He stepped closer to her, and the air around them seemed to freeze. He was right in front of her, and she unconsciously wanted to step back.
Antonio's deep voice came softly, so light, but it weighed heavily on Sarah's heart. "I did all this for you because Brady is your family."
Antonio had never cared about anyone's life or death.
Whether Brady lived or died, he didn't care at all.
He kept helping Brady only because of her.
Because Brady was her most cherished family member, the one she had always depended on.
Didn't she get any of this?
Or did she think that no matter what he did, it was always wrong?
"Sarah, tell me what I need to do for you to understand."
As he said this, his breathing grew heavier, and he got closer to Sarah, almost touching her.
Sarah looked up and met Antonio's deep eyes, which seemed like a vortex pulling her in.
She was stunned, forgetting to push him away, her breath filled with his unique masculine scent, and her mind replaying his words.
Sarah's body trembled. Realizing the dangerous proximity between them, she suddenly took a step back, her breath becoming erratic, then she turned and bolted from the study.
At the same time, Harper was about to head to the study to find them. As she bounced down the hallway, she saw Sarah 'fleeing' from the study, her face red like she had done something guilty.
Suddenly, Harper's chubby face lit up with a smile. She covered her mouth and giggled, her eyes sparkling with little hearts.
It must be that Antonio and Sarah were just in the study.
She had finally waited for this day!
Now that Brady was fine, everything was moving in a positive direction.
The only thing left was to tell Antonio that she was actually his daughter, and Brian, Ethan, they were family!
